The Coordinating Research Council held its 15th workshop in April 2005, with nearly 90 presentations describing the most recent mobile source-related emissions research. In this paper, the authors summarize the presentations from researchers who are engaged in improving our understanding of the contribution of mobile sources to air quality. Participants in the workshop discussed emission models and emission inventories, results from gas- and particle-phase emissions studies from spark-ignition and diesel-powered vehicles (with an emphasis in this workshop on particle emissions), effects of fuels on emissions, evaluation of in-use emissions control programs, and efforts to improve our capabilities in performing on-board emissions measurements, as well as topics for future research.  相似文献

The locomotory activity of adult Penaeus indicus Milne Edwards and P. monodon (Fabricius) collected from the Vellar estuary, South India, in 1983 was monitored continuously for a period of 40 d in the laboratory. Both species exhibited persistent circatidal and circadian rhythmicity, the former displayed peak activity during predicated times of high water in their original habitat. The latter exhibited peak activity during periods corresponding to in situ night-time, with almost no activity during the day, except at the time of high tide. The tidal and daily rhythms were evident for only 3 to 4 d and 5 to 6 d, respectively, under laboratory conditions. The amplitude of the rhythms displayed variations in each semilunar period, reflecting the synchrony and dissynchrony of the tidal and daily rhythms. Activity was correlated with phases of the moon, peaking at times of new and full moon, and showing a scattered pattern with smaller peaks during the first and third quarters.  相似文献

Two types of secretory cell have been found in the cement glands of the cypris larva of Balanus balanoides (L.). Histochemical tests show the presence of proteins, phenols and the enzyme polyphenol oxidase in both the glands and secreted cement. Activated carbon, developed from fertilizer waste, has been used for the removal of Hg2+, Cr6+, Pb2+, and Cu2+. Mass transfer kinetic approach has been successfully applied for the determination of various parameters necessary for designing a fixed-bed absorber. Parameters selected are the length of the (PAZ) primary adsorption zone (δ), total time involved for the establishment of primary adsorption zone (tx), mass rate of flow to the absorber (Fm), time for primary adsorption zone to move down its length (tδ), amount of adsorbate adsorbed in PAZ from breakpoint to exhaustion (Ms), fractional capacity (f), time of initial formation of PAZ (tf) and per cent saturation of column at break point. The concentrations of biocides leached from antifouling coatings are monitored in most of the developed countries. However, in India and many other developing countries, there is very little data available on the concentrations of biocides in ports and harbours. The first step was to obtain the order of magnitude levels of concentrations of biocides in the marine environment of the Visakhapatnam Harbour, and the MAM-PEC (Marine Antifoulant Model to Predict Environmental Concentrations) model was used to predict these values. The Visakhapatnam Port lies on the eastern coast of India, roughly halfway between Chennai and Kolkata, and is the largest port in India. This port is a natural harbour; the long and narrow outlet to the open sea makes it a 'poorly flushed' harbour. Predicted concentrations of tributyltin (TBT), copper, dichlofluanid, seanine, irgarol, diuron, tolylfluanid, and zinc pyrithione were computed. The results of the computations indicate that the levels of these biocides are comparable to those in many western countries. This gives credence to the fact that persistence of TBT and some other biocides is a global problem that cannot be ignored.  相似文献
