In the context of environmental change projections at the regional level, not only the climate but also the land use plays
a key role. The limited availability of historical information reduces the possibility to calibrate land use change (LUC)
models. Even in case of successful calibration, using it both for diagnostic and prognostic studies does not guarantee the
reliability of single future simulations. Through ensemble forecasting, useful LUC predictions are evaluable. In this work,
after introducing a modified version of the well-assessed CLUE-S model, we present reasonable hot-spots of LUC in Italy for
the end of 21st century, derived from the agreement of a 32 simulation ensemble performed alternating two choices for five
model configurations or inputs: (1) two different climate projections (reflecting A2 and B2 emission scenarios by IPCC, respectively);
(2) two different degrees (slight and strong) of demographic increase; (3) the conservation (or not) of protected areas; (4)
the influence (or not) among adjacent land uses in determining their shift; and (5) the importance (or not) of past/recent
LUC trends. Results, in terms of LUC hot-spot distribution, were evaluated at administrative, biogeographical, physiographic,
and watershed level. The main findings highlighted that some trends of land use substitution will be likely opposite to the
past and that a more detailed spatial scale can detect situations neglected by coarser scale evaluations, and due to different
transpositions of directives from high-levels to local scales. Biogeographical and physiographic settings seem strongly influencing
LUCs, and administrative and catchment units across Italy show very different developments and a highly fragmented territory
in terms of LUC hot-spots, all that to be considered in landscape and resource planning. 相似文献

The Oliveri-Tindari Lagoon, located in North-Eastern Sicily (Italy) and composed of six lakes, is subject to continuous environmental changes. An integrated study focusing on sediment features and levels of contamination was carried out for three of the six lakes, which are of ancient origin: Verde, Mergolo della Tonnara and Marinello. A high primary production (26.89 μg l?1) was detected at Lake Verde; texture classification showed a typical grain size in the sediments of all lakes; the study of macronutrients highlighted 17.08 of total carbon in sediments from Lake Mergolo della Tonnara; toxic elements were detected at higher concentrations in the sediments of Lake Marinello in comparison to the others, while arsenic was found in high concentrations in all the samples tested, especially in Lake Verde, with a mean value of 17.25 mg kg?1 dry weight (d.w.). All the organic contaminants, except 4, 4′-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene, were below the detection limits in the sediments. Minimal microbiological contamination was found in both water and sediment samples. In the latter, we isolated several bacterial strains thriving in the presence of arsenic, which play a role in the biogeochemical cycle of arsenic. These preliminary results, obtained for the first time using a multidisciplinary approach, provide general information about the Oliveri-Tindari Lagoon area. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate mercury and selenium distribution in different portions (exoskeleton, white meat and brown meat) of Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus). Some samples were also analysed as whole specimens. The same portions were also examined after boiling, in order to observe if this cooking practice could affect mercury and selenium concentrations. The highest mercury concentrations were detected in white meat, exceeding in all cases the maximum levels established by European legislation. The brown meat reported the highest selenium concentrations. In all boiled samples, mercury levels showed a statistically significant increase compared to raw portions. On the contrary, selenium concentrations detected in boiled samples of white meat, brown meat and whole specimen showed a statistically significant decrease compared to the corresponding raw samples. These results indicate that boiling modifies mercury and selenium concentrations. The high mercury levels detected represent a possible risk for consumers, and the publication and diffusion of specific advisories concerning seafood consumption is recommended. 相似文献

Heavy metal (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Hg and Se) concentrations in the muscle and bone of four fish species (Mullus barbatus, Merluccius merluccius, Micromesistius poutassou, and Scomber scombrus) from the central Adriatic Sea were measured and the relationships between fish size (length and weight) and metal concentrations in the tissues were investigated. Samples were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrophotometry with automatic dual viewing. In the muscle, results of linear regression analysis showed that, except for mercury, significant relationships between metal concentrations and fish size were negative. Only mercury levels were positively correlated with Atlantic mackerel size (p?<?0.05). No significant variations of heavy metal concentrations were observed in muscles of the examined species, but a significant difference (p?<?0.01) was found for As, Cd, Pb, and Se concentrations in bone. All the investigated metals showed higher values in the muscle than in bone, except for lead and zinc. Regarding cadmium, lead, and mercury maximum levels, set for the edible portion by European legislation, several samples exceeded these values, confirming the heavy metal presence in species caught near the Jabuka Pit. 相似文献

Detection and assessment of the impact of pollution on biological resources imply increasing research on early-warning markers
such as metallothioneins (MTs) in metal exposure. In this paper, we have collated published information on the use of metallothioneins
and metallothionein-like proteins (MTLPs) as biomarkers for environmental quality assessment in the Gulf of Gabès. In this
area, some species of fish and bivalve were used as bioindicators of pollution. In these species, an induction of MTs/MTLPs
by the essential metals such as Cu and Zn and the non-essential metals such as Cd was observed by different authors who suggest
the potential use of these proteins as biomarkers. However, MT concentrations can be influenced by many biotic (sex, maturity
stages, and tissues) and abiotic factors (temperature, salinity, and pH). This is essentially the case in field studies where
many parameters can randomly affect MT levels, so the endogeneous regulation of MTs must be considered before using MTs as
an indicator of heavy metal exposure. Moreover, the use of biomarker cannot be examined independently of the evaluation of
techniques that enable its quantification. Therefore, the approach to the use of MTs/MTLP as biomarkers of exposure for an
assessment of the physiological status of aquatic organisms is discussed in this paper. 相似文献

Spinal deformities are seen in fishes. Deformities in the family Syngnathidae is rarely reported. Spine curvatures in natural population of pipefish, Syngnathus abaster are reported from the Tunis North Lake. The species is euryhaline and occurs along the Mediterranean coasts. Four hundred specimens of S. abaster were collected from January 2006 to December 2007 from the Tunis North Lake. Two specimens with skeletal abnormalities were described for the first time. X-rays radiographies revealed several vertebral deformities for each deformed specimen, especially at five curvation places of the caudal part. Several factors are believed to be the cause of spinal deformities of S. abaster in the Tunis North Lake, such as environmental disturbances, parasitism infection and nutritional factors. 相似文献
