The health of near shore marine ecosystems has long been a concern because of its importance to coastal areas. Jiaozhou Bay
(JZB) is one such marine ecosystem experiencing rapid water quality degradation in the last several decades. From the area
surrounding the bay, the nutrients discharged into the bay through surface water and groundwater has been greatly changed.
The thickness of the aquifers and the permeability is relatively high, the concentrations of nutrients in the groundwater
are generally high, and so the groundwater discharged into JZB is very significant. However, no attempt has ever been made
to evaluate the amount of nutrients discharged into the bay area via groundwater. In this study, the cross-section method
and water balance method were used to estimate the amount of groundwater and nutrients discharged into JZB via the subsurface.
Groundwater was monitored and sampled at aquifers surrounding the bay area, and some previously available data was also analyzed.
The results indicated that groundwater from the Baisha Aquifer east of JZB now is the major source of nutrients (nitrate,
dissolved SiO2) being discharged into the bay. The concentrations of nutrients in the groundwater have been increasing with intensive agricultural
land use. However, Dagu Aquifer, the largest aquifer north of JZB, only provides limited nutrients to the bay area because
of the construction of a low permeability subsurface dam. Historically, during the 1970s to the 1990s, the Baisha Aquifer
experienced seawater intrusion due to excessive groundwater withdrawal. The same was true for the Dagu Aquifer from the 1980s

Florasulam is a three azole and pyrimidine sulfonamide herbicide, mainly used for weeds prevention and control in winter wheat fields. The main purpose of this experiment was to study the effects of different doses of Florasulam on soil residues and on the enzymatic activity of wheat cultivated in drylands, and to provide the theoretical basis for a scientific use of florasulam. Five doses (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 mL/667 m2) of Florasulam were applied in order to detect differences in soil residue content and enzymatic activities. Soil residues and enzymatic activities (catalase, phosphatase, urease, dehydrogenase) were measured and analyzed after the 5 different doses of Florasulam were processed. The residual amount of Florasulam in the soils decreased gradually with the growth phase of wheat, and was lower than that of 0.01 mg/kg. The residual amount of Florasulam in different soil layers gradually decreased with the increase of soil thickness. The enzymatic activity of soils treated with Florasulam was basically T3 > T2 > T1 > CK > T4, where T3 was the highest, whereas T4 could inhibit the enzymatic activity. This paper aimed to find an efficient bacterium for decolorizing azo dyes. A strain which could decolorize Congo Red efficiently was isolated from Congo Red. The strain was identified as Paenibacillus dendritiformis GGJ7 (GGJ7, in short) by 16S rRNA gene sequence (NCBI accession No. KY655213). Strain GGJ7 was applied to the decolorization of azo dyes in this research, and influencing factors of decolorization were investigated, including diverse nutritional conditions, culture conditions (pH, temperature, oxygen conditions), and various dyes. The results demonstrated that the decolorization rate of Congo Red by strain GGJ7 was much higher than that of the other eight strains (e.g., YRJ1, YRJ2 etc.) in our previous work. The optimal conditions for Congo Red decolorization were 25 g/L LB broth as nutrient source, 30 °C, pH 7, and an anaerobic environment. The mechanism of decolorization was mainly biodegradation, and the decolorization process of strain GGJ7 was conformed to the first-class kinetics model: -ln (At /A0) = 0.6058t - 0.1082. For different azo dyes, the decolorization rate was up to 95%. Strain GGJ7 only needed 1 h to decolorize 50 mg/L Methyl Orange, 25 mg/L Croceine Scarlet, and 25 mg/L Methyl Red, needed 3 h to decolorize 50 mg/L Orange G and 50 mg/L Orange G6, and needed 4 h to decolorize 50 mg/L Congo Red. In situ phytoplankton sampling over 24h was carried out in July 1985 during part of a monitoring program established by the Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la Mer (IFREMER) to survey the blooming of toxic dinoflagellates off the French coast. Analysis of the data suggested a vertical migration of Dinophysis sp. (acuminata?) populations through the sea-water column. These diurnal displacements should be taken into account in the course of monitoring surveys of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP). Culture assays which were performed in parallel remained unsuccessful. However, Dinophysis sp. survived in an enriched sea-water medium for 4 to 5 wk under low light intensity (8 to 10 W m-2) and constant temperature (16° to 18 °C). Cell ultrastructure, in pariticular the organization of chloroplasts, is described. All the combined results tend to confirm the photosynthetic capacity of this species. 相似文献

Chromosome preparations from gill tissue of the Australian flat oyster Ostrea angasi Sowerby were studied with conventional Giemsa staining, C-banding and silver staining techniques. A diploid complement of
2n = 20 was observed, consisting of five metacentric, three submetacentric and two subtelocentric pairs. Constitutive heterochromatin
was distributed as large centromeric blocks in Chromosome Pairs 3, 6, 8, 9 and 10. The nucleolus organizer regions (NORs)
were located terminally on long arms of Chromosome Pairs 9 and 10. This allowed the identification of homologous chromosomes
in submetacentric and subtelocentric pairs. Intraspecific variability in NOR pattern as revealed by differences in the number
of silver-stained NORs (Ag-NORs) per cell was found to be very common. Comparison of the patterns of karyotype, C-band and
Ag-NORs between species of the larviparous oysters for which data have been published demonstrate that the chromosomal structure
of the endemic Australian and New Zealand species O. angasi shows little similarity to the Southern Hemisphere oysters O. (Eostrea)puelchana Orbigny and Tiostrea chilensis (Philippi) and the Indo-West Pacific oyster O. denselamellosa, but very high resemblance to the European species O. edulis.

The red algaGelidium sesquipedale (Clem.) Born. et Thur. has been cultured in chemostats to assess the effects of light quality and photon-fluence rate (PFR) on growth, photosynthesis and biochemical composition. Plants under blue and red light (BL and RL) showed higher growth rates than under white light (WL) of the same PFR (40 mol m–2 s–1). The light-saturated rate of photosynthesis was higher for algae grown under BL and RL than for algae grown under WL. When algae were transferred to WL of moderate PFR (100 mol m–2 s–1), the light-saturated rate of photosynthesis decreased, being higher in previously RL-grown algae than in previously BL- and WL-grown algae. The initial slope of photosynthesis-irradiance (PI) curves () was affected by PFR but not by light quality. Pigment content was little affected by light quality. Light-quality treatments also affected the biochemical composition of the alga; previous exposure to various light treatments activate or repress several metabolical pathways that are fully expressed in the subsequent phase of WL of moderate PFR. Thus, phycobiliproteins and soluble proteins increased for previously BL- and RL-grown algae, whereas insoluble carbohydrate concentration was reduced, indicating a change of the C-partitioning between carbon compounds and organic nitrogen compounds. Inorganic nitrogen metabolism was also affected by light: under WL of moderate PFR, NO3
– was totally depleted from sea water, and maximal values of NO3
– uptake were recorded. In addition, neither NO2
– nor NH4
+ was released. However, when algae were transferred to a low PFR, there was a drastic reduction of NO3
– uptake under WL, which only partially recovered over time. It was accompanied by the release of NO2
–, but not NH4
+, to the culture medium. Under BL and RL, however, there was a transient enhancement of NO3
– uptake that was followed by a net release of NO2
– and NH4
–. Growth rates were not correlated with PFR. This could be due to the the dynamics of internal carbon mobilization and accumulation in the algae. When algae were exposed to a moderate PFR of WL, carbon requirements for growth were satisfied by photosynthesis. Thus, there was a net accumulation of carbon in the tissue. In contrast, when algae were exposed to low PFRs of either WL, BL or RL, observed growth rates could not be maintained by photosynthesis and carbon was mobilized. 相似文献

Within-specimen location of toxicity in Crambe crambe (Schmidt) has been addressed by complementary procedures on specimens collected in north-east Spain (Western Mediterranean) in winter of 1993. The toxicity of the distal (ectosome) and basal (choanosome) sponge parts have been analysed and the main cellular types present in these two layers have been studied by light and electron microscopy. The toxicity of the three main cell types, separated by the gradient-density method, has also been analysed. Three main fractions, each of them enriched in a different cellular type, were obtained: Fraction 1 (interface between 2 and 5% Ficoll) contained 90±0.9% (mean±SE) of spherulous cells and 10% of different cell types consisting of choanocytes (5±0.54%), and unidentified cells or cell debris (5±0.84%); Fraction 2 (interface between 5 and 8% Ficoll) was enriched in choanocytes (70±0.95%), and also contained spherulous cells (11.8±0.73%), archeocytes (6.2±0.74%) and unidentified sponge cells (12±0.74%); Fraction 3 (interface between 8 and 11% Ficoll) mainly consisted of archeocytes and archeocyte-like cells (75±0.66%), together with spherulous cells (7±0.74%) and other unidentified sponge cells and cell aggregates mainly formed by choanocytes (18±0.41%). Toxicity [measured in toxicity units, TU, using the Microtox® procedure] was significantly higher in the sponge ectosome (12.45±1.4 TU) than in the choanosome (2.58±0.92 UT). Only the abundance of spherulous cells in the sponge tissues correlated well with the pattern of toxicity observed, and this was corroborated by the toxic behaviour of the three cellular fractions obtained: the one enriched in spherulous cells was highly toxic (9.08 UT), whereas those enriched in choanocytes and in archeocytes were almost inactive (0.48 UT) or totally innocuous, respectively. All these results point to the spherulous cells being responsible for the storage (and possibly production) of the toxic compounds in C. crambe. Toxicity is concentrated in the sponge periphery. Spherulous cells are also concentrated in this area and can also be observed outside the sponge exopinacoderm. These results correlate well with the assumption of a defensive role of toxicity, since encounters with potential epibionts, predators and competitive neighbours take place through this peripheral zone. However, we found two types of spherulous cells (orange and colourless, respectively) coexisting in the same sponge zones as well as in Cell Fraction 1. Thus, we cannot at present determine whether one or both types are responsible for the toxicity encountered, although it is likely that the two correspond to different states of the same cell type. 相似文献

Sixteen experimenmtal plots (5 m x 6 m = 30 m2) were designed with four different levels of heavy metals (HMs) concentration in soil. The concentrations of heavy metals in soils, and paddy plant during the different periods of growth were investigated. A relationship between the total HM content in plants and the HM level in soil was found for a wide range of concentrations. The exchangeable fraction of HMs extracted with 1 M MgCl2 solution according to Tessier's method increased correlation with the dosage of supplemented HMs, then decreased as time went on. The time-related variation of exchangeable HMs in soil demonstrated that the amount of effective HMs taken up by paddy differed at various growth phases. The amount of HMs accumulated in different parts of paddy followed the order of root > stem > grain, leaf. The transportation potential of the HMs in paddy in present study followed the order of Zn, Cr > Cd, Cu > Pb. The HM content in root, stem and leaf of paddy plant (dry weight) was low at time of seedling. The concentration in the root increased sharply at time of tillering, decreased thereafter. The concentrations in stem and leaf reached the highest at time of tillering, then decreased, while rose slightly at following time. 相似文献

Nitrate distribution and denitrification in the saturated zone of paddy field under rice/wheat rotation 总被引:15,自引:0,他引:15
Nitrate concentration in well water collected from the wells near farm houses was investigated in the Taihu Lake basin (TBL) of China. Nitrate-N content of the well water ranged from 0.1 to 23 mgNl(-1), and 41% exceeded the criteria (10 mg Nl(-1)). It was found that the difference in well conditions, especially the depth of the well, was the main cause of the difference in the nitrate concentration of well water, i.e. it was higher in shallow well and lower in deeper well. A recommendation was made for local farmers to drill wells deeper than 10 m in order to reduce the risk of high ingestion of nitrate-N in their drinking water. Nitrate distribution and denitrification in the saturated zone of a paddy field under rice/wheat rotation in the TBL were studied. Porous pipes were installed in triplicate at depths of 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.5 and 5 m respectively to collect the soil solution samples. Results showed that nitrate was the predominant N form in soil solution of saturated zone, and it increased from 1.5 to 2.5 m depth, and decreased from 2.5 to 5 m depth. N2O captured in the soil solution was very high comparing with N2O content in air. N2O content was positively correlated with nitrate concentrations in the soil profile. These results indicate that nitrate leached into saturated zone was mainly transformed via denitrification processes. Comparing the sum of inorganic nitrogen with the total nitrogen in soil solution samples collected from those wells at the field, some soluble organic nitrogen was found about 1-2 mg N l(-1) in average. 相似文献
