Air pollution and groundwater pollution in conjunction with agricultural activity were investigated in Antayla province on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. The air pollution was investigated in terms of gas-phase nitric acid (HNO3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), ammonia (NH3), and particulate matter for a 6-month period in the atmosphere using a "filter pack" system, which was developed and optimized in our laboratory. Ozone was measured by using an automated analyzer. Among all of the gas-phase pollutants, HNO3 had the lowest concentration (0.42 microg x m(-3)) followed by NH3. Agricultural activities seem to be the major source of observed NH3 in the air. The current state of water pollution was investigated in terms of organochlorine and organophosphorus pesticides around the greenhouses, in which mainly tomato, pepper, and eggplant are cultivated. Water samples were collected from 40 points, 28 of which were wells and 12 of which were surface water. The pesticide concentrations in water samples were determined by means of solid-phase extraction (SPE) followed by a gas chromatography (GC)-electron capture detector (ECD)/nitrogen phosphorus detector (NPD) system. In general, surface water samples were more polluted by the pesticides than groundwater samples. The most frequently observed pesticides were chlorpyriphos (57%) and aldrin (79%) in groundwater, and chlorpyriphos (75%), aldrin, and endosulfan sulfate (83%) in surface water samples. The highest concentrations were observed for fenamiphos (394.8 ng/L) and aldrin (68.51 ng/L) in groundwater, and dichlorvos (322.2 ng/L) and endosulfan sulfate (89.5 ng/L) in surface water samples. At least one pesticide had a concentration above the health limit in 38% of all the water samples analyzed. 相似文献
Rehabilitation of degraded forest land through implementation of carbon-sink projects can increase terrestrial carbon (C)
stock. However, carbon emissions outside the project boundary, which is commonly referred to as leakage, may reduce or negate
the sequestration benefits. This study assessed leakage from carbon-sink projects that could potentially be implemented in
the study area comprised of 11 sub-districts in the Batanghari District, Jambi Province, Sumatra, Indonesia. The study estimates
the probability of a given land use/cover being converted into other uses/cover, by applying a logit model. The predictor
variables were: proximity to the center of the land use area, distance to transportation channel (road or river), area of
agricultural land, unemployment (number of job seekers), job opportunities, population density and income. Leakage was estimated
by analyzing with and without carbon-sink projects scenarios. Most of the predictors were estimated as being significant in
their contribution to land use cover change. The results of the analysis show that leakage in the study area can be large
enough to more than offset the project’s carbon sequestration benefits during the period 2002–2012. However, leakage results
are very sensitive to changes of carbon density of the land uses in the study area. By reducing C-density of lowland and hill
forest by about 10% for the baseline scenario, the leakage becomes positive. Further data collection and refinement is therefore
required. Nevertheless, this study has demonstrated that regional analysis is a useful approach to assess leakage. 相似文献

Economists have shown the empirical relationships between the economic growth of a nation and its environmental quality using
the hypothesis of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). To understand the EKC phenomena, a study of the literature was undertaken.
As waste, waste emission, and suspended particulate matter (SPM) are the active agents of environmental degradation, the study
focused on those agents for EKC consideration. Through understanding the different EKC trajectories, an attempt was made to
relate the economic development of Bangladesh to the EKC. It is shown that the EKCs for waste, emissions from waste, and SPM
follow the conventional EKC trajectory with a turning point related to higher income per capita in most cases. The type of
economic policy that Bangladesh should follow to deal with the pollutants and their sources is also shown. The study recommends
creating a tunnel in the EKC to lower the turning point in Bangladesh. The study is likely to help stimulate policy development
in Bangladesh. 相似文献

Energy and environmental issues have triggered the search for new sources of green energy alternatives in recent years. Biofuel production from renewable sources is widely considered one of the most sustainable alternatives for environmental and economic sustainability. Microalgae are currently being promoted as one of the most promising liquid biofuel feedstocks due to their rapid growth, high lipid production capacity, and carbon–neutral cycle. In this study, whole microalgae cells were utilized as raw material to produce solid biofuel, i.e., Bio-Coke, and this study aimed to investigate the possibility of microalgae Bio-Coke as an alternative to coal coke. The results show that Bio-Coke can be produced from microalgae in the temperature range of 80–100 °C. The apparent density is between 1.253 and 1.261 g/cm3, comparable to the apparent density of lignocellulosic Bio-Coke. Additionally, the calorific value is higher than the calorific value of lignocellulosic Bio-Coke and within the range of the calorific value of subbituminous coal. Therefore, microalgae Bio-Coke can be utilized to replace coal coke usage in the future.
