The present study explores the tolerance and metal removal response of a well-developed 2-week-old Phormidium mat after long-term exposure to Cu2+-enriched medium. Cu2+ enrichment inhibited increase in mat biomass in a concentration-dependent manner. Mat area and the number of entrapped air bubbles decreased as Cu2+ concentration increased in the medium. Decrease in number of air bubbles obviously reflects the adverse effect of Cu2+ on photosynthetic performance of the mat. Metal enrichment did not substantially alter the amount of pigments, such as chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids, and phycocyanin, in the mat. Enhancement of Cu2+ concentration in the medium led to changes in species composition of the test mat; however, Phormidium bigranulatum always remained the dominant organism. Relative share of green algae and some cyanobacterial taxa, namely, Lyngbya sp. and Oscillatoria tenuis, in the mat were increased by Cu2+ enrichment. The mat successfully removed 80 to 94 % Cu2+ from the growth medium containing 10 to 100 μM Cu2+. Extracellular polysaccharides, whose share increased in the mat community after metal addition, seem to have contributed substantially to metal binding by the mat biomass. 相似文献

In this study, refuse plastic fuel (RPF) was copyrolyzed with low-quality coal and was gasified in the presence of a metal
catalyst and steam. Some metal catalysts, such as Ni, NiO, and Mg, and mixtures of these with base promoters such as Al2O3 and Fe2O3 were employed in the pyrolysis and gasification processes to convert the synthesis gas into more valuable fuel gas. The operating
temperatures for the pyrolysis and gasification were between 700° and 1000°C. The experimental parameters were the operating
temperature, catalyst type, basic promoter type, and steam injection amount. Solid fuel samples (5 g) were fed into a semibatch-type
quartz tube reactor when the reactor reached the designated temperature. The synthesis gas was analyzed by gas chromatography.
The use of low-quality coal as fuel in co-pyrolysis with RPF was explored. For the co-pyrolysis of RPF and low-quality coal,
the effectiveness of the catalysts for fuel gas production followed the order Mg > NiO > Ni. In catalytic gasification of
RPF, the addition of Al2O3 seemed to reduce the activity of the corresponding catalysts Ni and Mg. The maximum fuel gas yield (92.6%) was attained when
Mg/Fe2O3 was used in steam gasification at 1000°C. 相似文献

Protected areas have been earmarked throughout the world for the purpose of conserving the biodiversity. The protected areas are facing serious threats due to rapid urban growth, especially in the developing countries like India. The current threats and impacts of urbanization on the Okhla Bird Sanctuary (Delhi, India) have been presented in this paper as a case in point. Uncontrolled urbanization and the lack of policy implementation have been identified as one of the major contributors to incessant biodiversity loss in India and other countries. In addition, a possible management framework for a smaller protected area in an urban setting is presented in brief. 相似文献

The snowline in Himalaya is rising ceaselessly due to regional and global climatic change. Upward rising of snowline leads to the formation of moraines. Due to extreme environmental conditions the existing vegetation of the moraine is scanty, rigorous and possesses different ecological adaptation. Ablation zone of the glacier is covered by a thick pile of supra glacial moraines and is characterized by several serrac ice sections, melting into pools of supra glacial lakes because of subsidence and fast degenerating nature of the glacier. Anaphalis triplinervis was observed to have highest importance value in ablation moraine zone. Here the species richness increased remarkably partially due to the invasion of plant species from lower alpine belt. The fresh lateral moraine displays distressed soil features with mosaic type of vegetation. Gaultheria trichophylla is a dominant plant species here and is associated with other stunted and cold resisting species. The old lateral moraine is dominated by Potentilla atrosanguinea with co-dominant species Iris kemaonensis and Danthonia cachemyriana. 相似文献
