This paper addresses methodological issues in estimating carbon (C) sequestration potential, baseline determination, additionality
and leakage in Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, southern part of India. Technical potential for afforestation on cultivable
wastelands, fallow, and marginal croplands was considered for Eucalyptus clonal plantations. Field studies for aboveground and belowground biomass, woody litter, and soil organic carbon for baseline
and project scenarios were conducted to estimate the carbon sequestration potential. The baseline carbon stock was estimated
to be 45.3 t C/ha, predominately in soils. The additional carbon sequestration potential under the project scenario for 30 years
is estimated to be 12.8 t C/ha/year inclusive of harvest regimes and carbon emissions due to biomass burning and fertilizer
application. Considering carbon storage in harvested wood, an additional 45% carbon benefit can be accounted. The project
scenario has a higher benefit/cost ratio compared to the baseline scenario. The initial investment cost requirement, however,
is high and lack of access to investment is a significant barrier for adoption of agroforestry in the district.

Comparison of microbial indicators under two water regimes in a soil amended with combined paper mill sludge and decomposed cow manure 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An incubation study was conducted under laboratory conditions to compare the effects of soil amendment of combined paper mill sludge (PS) and decomposed cow manure (DCM) on selected microbial indicators. A lateritic soil (Typic Haplustalf) was amended with 0 (control), 20 or 80tha(-1) (wet weight) of PS or DCM. The amended soils were then adjusted to 60% water holding capacity (WHC) or submerged conditions, and incubated at 27 degrees C in dark for up to 120days (d). The microbial biomass C (MBC), the basal soil respiration and the enzyme activities of the beta-glucosidase, acid phosphatase and sulphatase were analyzed at day 15, 30, 45, 60 and 120. Compared to the unamended soil (control), the MBC, the basal soil respiration and the enzyme activities increased with the rate of PS and DCM. At similar rate, the DCM treatment increased significantly the MBC, the soil respiration and the enzyme activities compared to the PS treatment. Also, the water regimes affected the microbial activities. At 60% WHC, the MBC and soil respiration increased during the first 30d and decreased thereafter. The enzyme activities showed similar trends, where they increased for the first 60d, and decreased thereafter. In contrast, under submerged condition, the MBC and enzymes activities declined during 120d, whereas the soil respiration increased. Compared to the control, the used of PS and DCM had no negative impact of the soil microbial parameters, even at the highest application rate. Long-term field experiments are required to confirm these laboratory results. 相似文献

The article presents the reduced use of toxicologically critical solvents for the extraction and clean-up of a neo-nicotinoid pesticide, acetamiprid from vegetables. Acetamiprid was extracted from spiked vegetable samples of cabbage by the use of different techniques like microwave-assisted extraction (MWAE), sonication and by the conventional method of homogenization. The study revealed that though higher percent recoveries of 78–92 were obtained in the blending method, solvent use was high as compared to MWAE. In MWAE, the percent recoveries recorded were in the range of 46–89 depending upon the solvent used and power employed. A mixture of methanol–water and methanol–acetone at 400 W power levels gave percent recoveries of 72 and 82, respectively, as compared to solvent mixtures, namely, acetone–hexane and acetone–hexane–water, which recorded recoveries of 49 and 67%. The study indicates that the choice of solvent and power employed plays a significant role in MWAE for enhanced recoveries. 相似文献

Worldwide, about 150 000 infants are born with spina bifida yearly, making this condition one of the most common fetal central nervous system anomalies compatible with life. Over the last decade, major changes have been introduced in the prenatal diagnosis and management of spina bifida. In this review, we provide a brief summary of the current management of fetal spina bifida and present essential information that should be provided to expecting parents when their fetus has been diagnosed with spina bifida. Treatment of olive mill effluents Part II. Complete removal of solids by direct flocculation with poly-electrolytes 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The pre-treatment of three different olive oil processing effluents by means of direct flocculation (i.e. without prior coagulation) was investigated. Four cationic and two anionic poly-electrolytes were tested and most of them were found capable of removing nearly completely total suspended solids (TSS) as well as reducing considerably the concentration of chemical (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD(5)) without altering solution pH. Flocculant dosage was crucial to achieve effective separation. For three cationic and one anionic poly-electrolytes, the minimum dosage required to initiate separation was about 2.5-3 g/L. The remaining two poly-electrolytes failed to cause separation even at dosages as high as 7 g/L. Lime and ferric chloride were also tested as reference coagulants and found quite effective in terms of TSS removal although the degree of COD reduction was generally lower than that with poly-electrolytes. However, lime treatment would require greater dosages and longer treatment times than that with poly-electrolytes and would also increase considerably solution pH. A preliminary cost analysis showed that lime treatment for complete solids removal was generally less costly than that with poly-electrolytes presumably due to its low market price. Nonetheless, cost-benefits may be defied by several drawbacks associated with the use of lime. 相似文献
