Analyses of the elytral hydrocarbons from male and female emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, that were freshly emerged vs. sexually mature (>10 days old) revealed a female-specific compound, 9-methyl-pentacosane
(9-Me-C25), only present in sexually mature females. This material was synthesized by the Wittig reaction of 2-decanone with (n-hexadecyl)-triphenylphosphonium bromide followed by catalytic reduction to yield racemic 9-Me C25, which matched the natural compound by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (retention time and EI mass spectrum). The study team analyzed 20 public and 12 private incident reports using the TapRoot® methodology to identify root causes. These root causes were mapped to operations practice failures. This paper describes the top ten operations failure modes identified in the analysis. The technical viability of using inert construction and demolition (C&D) materials for the construction of seawall and breakwater foundations has been established by laboratory testing of the materials, numerical analysis of foundation stability, and a pilot field-scale engineering performance evaluation. However, quality control measures are still required so that only suitable materials are used for seawall and breakwater foundation construction. The development of different quality control measures for different site conditions is presented in this paper. The results of model calculations carried out to identify and quantify the input pathways of trace elements into cement and concrete and to estimate the extent to which trace element concentrations in cement may change due to waste utilization are presented. As expected, primary raw materials represented the most important input pathway for trace elements into cement, but the contribution from wastes was not negligible. The use of waste led to a slight increase of the concentrations of cadmium, antimony and zinc in cement. For cobalt, lead and vanadium, this increase was less distinct and for all other trace elements considered, the effect of the use of wastes on trace element concentrations in cement could not be demonstrated clearly. The trace element content of concrete was governed by the aggregates for most elements considered. However, for arsenic, cadmium, lead and zinc, both cement and the additive coal fly ash contributed noticeably to the total trace element concentration in the concrete. 相似文献

The use of the entropy principle in phenomenological water quality models is not only necessary, but also of great advantage. A deterministic ecosystem model must obey the 2nd law of thermodynamics. Gibb's equation is a constraint additional to the balances of mass, energy and momentum. The entropy principle supports the unified treatment of physical, chemical and biological processes in water bodies, offers stability criteria and controls the further development of the aquatic ecosystems. Thermodynamic criteria also allow the determination of the bifurcation points of the model equations. Especially near these points the state and structure of the ecosystem can be strongly changed by fluctuations of the variables and parameters of the ecosystem.Results of the thermodynamic theory of selforganizing systems (Glansdorff and Prigogine, 1971; Nicolis and Prigogine, 1977) are of very great importance for water quality modelling.
