Poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) was melt blended with glycerol based polyesters (PGS) synthesized from pure and technical glycerol aiming to improve the impact strength of PBS. It was found that after addition of 30 wt% PGS to PBS its impact strength was significantly increased by 344% (from 31.9 to 110 J/m) and its elongation at break was maintained at 220%. Infrared spectra of the blends showed the presence of hydroxyl groups from the PGS phase suggesting that hydrogen bonding between the phases could be responsible for a good stress transfer and an efficient toughening in the PBS/PGS blends. Scanning electron microscopy imaging showed a good dispersion of PGS phase into PBS with a PGS particle size of 10 μm and less and no agglomeration. Addition of PGS to PBS was shown to be an effective strategy for improvement of PBS impact resistance without serious detrimental effects on its thermal and rheological properties. 相似文献

Comparison of semi-aerobic and anaerobic degradation of refuse with recirculation after leachate treatment by aged refuse bioreactor 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Two fresh refuse bioreactors (F1 and F2) were operated under semi-aerobic and anaerobic conditions, respectively. The leachate from the bioreactors F1 and F2 was introduced into the aged refuse bioreactors (A1 and A2), and the effluent from A1 and A2 was subsequently recirculated into F1 and F2, respectively. The effect of the semi-aerobic recirculation process on refuse degradation was investigated, comparing it with that of the anaerobic recirculation process. Results indicate that the semi-aerobic recirculation process can increase the accumulated net production of leachate and promote evaporation. The accumulated net production of refuse in F1 is 320 mL/kg and that of F2 is 248 mL/kg, with leachate reduction amounting to 315 and 244 mL/kg refuse, respectively. The leachate quantity reduction of semi-aerobic and anaerobic leachate recirculation process accounted for 98.4% and 98.3% of the accumulated net production of leachate, respectively. The semi-aerobic leachate recirculation process can improve the biodegradation of organic matter from fresh refuse and the reduction rate of the pollutant concentration in leachate. This should shorten considerably the time required to meet the discharge standard and the time of stabilization of the refuse as observed in the anaerobic recirculation process. It was predicted that the COD concentration of leachate from the anaerobic recirculation process would reach 1000 mg/L in the anaerobic recirculation process after 2.2 years, as for semi-aerobic leachate recirculation process it is about 100 days. Compared with anaerobic recirculation process, the semi-aerobic recirculation process is more effective on NH3-N transformation and TN removal. The NH3-N and TN concentration of F1 is far below those of F2 at the end of our experiment. Refuse settlement in the semi-aerobic recirculation process was faster than that in the anaerobic recirculation process. At the end of the experiment, refuse settlement ratios in the semi-aerobic and anaerobic bioreactors were 33.5% and 18%, respectively. 相似文献

It is well known that Pseudomonas oleovorans can utilize sodium octanoate for both cell growth and the synthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), but it can utilize sodium butyrate only for limited cell growth and not for the polyester formation when this substrate is the sole carbon source. Therefore, these two substrates were evaluated as cofeeds for the possible incorporation of 3-hydroxybutyryl groups in the resulting PHA. When sodium butyrate and sodium octanoate were fed to P. oleovorans as cosubstrates in various proportions, the resultant cell density and polymer content were proportional to the amount of sodium octanoate in the feed. The PHA extracted from cells grown in all combinations of these cosubstrates had similar unit compositions of approximately 8 mole % 3-hydroxyhexanoate, 91 mole % 3-hydroxyoctanoate and 1 mole % 3-hydroxydecanoate. 3-Hydroxybutyrate units were not detected in any of the PHAs isolated, indicating that these units could not be incorporated in the copolymer synthesized by P. oleovorans either because the cell did not synthesize that monomer or, if it did, the PHA synthase could not copolymerize it with the longer chain monomers. 相似文献

Measurement of the isotopic composition of solids, solutes, gases, and water complement standard hydrogeological investigation techniques by providing information that may not otherwise be obtainable. Groundwater age estimates determined from the decay of radio‐isotopes or from groundwater concentrations of anthropogenic gases such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) are used to verify flow regimes and constrain or calibrate hydrologic flow models. Groundwater recharge rates are estimated by measuring the concentrations or activities of a variety of isotopes including 2H, 3H, 18O, and 36Cl. Excess sulfur causes salinization of water supplies and acidification of precipitation, surface water, and groundwater. The wide range of sulfur isotopic compositions exhibited by different sulfur species and sources allows the application of sulfur isotopes to trace sources and fate of sulfur in the environment. Methane is a ubiquitous gas that has economic value when located in extractable reservoirs. Methane is also a greenhouse gas and is a potential explosion and health hazard when it accumulates in buildings and water distribution systems. The carbon and hydrogen isotopic composition of methane can be used to determine the provenance of methane, distinguishing between thermogenic and biogenic sources. The addition of isotopic analyses to environmental investigations can be a cost‐effective means of resolving intractable issues. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

In this paper, the dynamic relationship between global surface temperature (global warming) and global carbon dioxide emission (CO2) is modelled and analyzed by causality and spectral analysis in the time domain and frequency domain, respectively. Historical data of global CO2emission and global surface temperature anomalies over 129 years from 1860–1988 are used in this study. The causal relationship between the two phenomena is first examined using the Sim and Granger causality test in the time domain after the data series are filtered by ARIMA models. The Granger causal relationship is further scrutinized and confirmed by cross-spectral and multichannel spectral analysis in the frequency domain. The evidence found from both analyses proves that there is a positive causal relationship between the two variables. The time domain analysis suggests that Granger causality exists between global surface temperature and global CO2emission. Further, CO2emission causes the change in temperature. The conclusions are further confirmed by the frequency domain analysis, which indicates that the increase in CO2emission causes climate warming because a high coherence exists between the two variables. Furthermore, it is proved that climate changes happen after an increase in CO2emission, which confirms that the increase in CO2emission does cause global warming. 相似文献

Cypermethrin induced significant alterations in protein metabolic profiles in the central nervous system (CNS) and pedipalpal muscle (PM) of crab, Oziotelphusa senex senex, following ambient exposure. While total and soluble proteins decreased in CNS and PM, free amino acids, protease, alanine and aspartate aminotransferase (AlAT and AAT) were elevated at 24 h after exposure. These results thus confirm the prevailing protein hydrolysis and transamination in these tissues of crab, as a consequence of cypermethrin intoxication. Restoration of normalcy by 48 h demonstrates the importance of these metabolic events in counteracting the effects of cypermethrin. the results also suggests the safer utilization potential and ecological compatibility of cypermethrin. 相似文献

Males of the brush-legged wolf spider Schizocosa ocreata (Hentz) have conspicuously decorated forelegs used in courtship and agonistic displays. Approximately one in five juvenile
males has a missing or regenerating foreleg, and regeneration of a leg lost during development usually results in the absence
of a decorative tuft on that leg. The subsequent asymmetry in this male secondary character significantly decreases success
in both courtship of females and male-male agonistic interactions. Experimental removal of tufts from one leg of previously
successful symmetric males produces similar results. As a test for concomitant behavioral effects, female spiders were shown
video images of a courting male with symmetric tufts and the same video image altered to have asymmetric tufts. Female receptivity
to the asymmetric video image was lower. In contrast to fluctuating asymmetry resulting from developmental instability, leg
tuft asymmetry in S. ocreata most likely arises from a single event during ontogeny – possibly leg loss from an aggressive or predator encounter – and
may serve as a quality indicator in female mate choice.
