Alkyl esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acids (parabens), an endocrine disrupter, are used as preservatives in cosmetics and foods. In this study, to understand the relationship between parabens and differentiation in infants, the effects of parabens on apoptosis induced by serum deprivation in PC12 cells were investigated. In addition, apoptosis-related factors were assayed. As results, a tendency toward enhancement of apoptosis was observed in the cells cultured in the serum-free medium with methylparaben, and this tendency was suggested to be related to the contents of BAD, a pro-apoptotic protein. The extensive use of the broad range of pesticides employed to maintain golf courses has prompted serious environmental concerns in Japan since courses tend to be located in mountainous regions, often in close proximity to virgin water sources. Since older empirical methods are not appropriate for substance identification and determination of substance concentrations on the ppb order, gas chromatographyquadrupole mass spectrometry (GC/QPMS) can be employed. A simple extraction of 500 ml of drainage pond water gives a sample which allows identification of pesticides with quantitation on the ppb order using selected ion monitoring (SIM). A sample of drainage pond water from a golf course revealed fenitrothion, funitrothion, chlorothalonil and isoprothiolane in concentrations of 120.1, 20.7, 45.6 and 130.5 ppb, respectively. 相似文献

Di-isopropylnaphthalene (DIPN) has highly persistent and bioaccumulative properties, and a large amount of DIPN is used as a PCB substitute in Japan. However, DIPN in the environment has not been thoroughly investigated. In addition, mono-isopropylnaphthalene (MIPN) and tri-isopropylnaphthalene (TIPN), which are the homologues of DIPN, have similar properties to DIPN. In this study, simultaneous analytical methods for MIPN, DIPN, and TIPN for air, environmental water, sediment, and biological samples were developed, and the resultant contamination caused by each in the environment was investigated. DIPN was detected at 1.1?±?0.38?ng/m3 in air and between <?1.9 and 9.8?ng/L in river water, but MIPN and TIPN were not. In Lateolabrax japonicas (Japanese sea perch), TIPN was detected from only females at between 0.65 and 1.4?ng/g-wet. DIPN was detected from all perches at between 1.2 and 3.4?ng/g-wet. DIPN and TIPN isomer fingerprints in females were different from those in the reference standard stock solution ones. In sediments, MIPN, DIPN, and TIPN were detected at between <?0.16 and 8.6?ng/g-dry, between <?1.1 and 4400?ng/g-dry, and between <?0.83 and 500?ng/g-dry, respectively. In Java and Kalimantan in Indonesia, river water plays important roles in human life; for example, for transportation, and economic activities of the inhabitants. However, industrial, agricultural and domestic water is discarded into rivers directly in many developing countries, including Indonesia, since drainage systems have not been completely constructed. In this study, to evaluate the water quality and to compare those levels of environmental contaminants in developing and developed countries, water quality and contents of endocrine disrupters were measured in a total of 64 water samples (Indonesia; 28 samples and Japan; 36 samples) from 53 sites. The results indicated that, rivers in both capital cities, Jakarta and Tokyo, were contaminated. Water in rivers in Indonesia was not so heavily polluted as in Japan. Pollution in the river water in Indonesia appeared to be caused by the lack of sewerage systems. In addition, the findings on endocrine disrupters indicated that the concentration of alkylphenol in water samples was large enough to affect living organisms. 相似文献

The present study aimed to investigate the potential ammonia (NH3) emission from flag leaves of paddy rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Koshihikari). The study was conducted at a paddy field in central Japan that was designed as a free-air CO2 enrichment (FACE) facility for paddy rice. A dynamic chamber method was used to measure the potential NH3 emissions. The air concentrations of NH3 at two heights (2 and 6 m from the ground surface) were measured using a filter-pack method, and the exchange fluxes of NH3 of the whole paddy field were calculated using a gradient method. The flag leaves showed potential NH3 emissions of 25-38 ng N cm−2 h−1 in the daytime from the heading to the maturity stages, and they showed potentials of approximately 22 ng N cm−2 h−1, even in the nighttime, at the heading and mid-ripening stages. The exchange fluxes of NH3 of the whole paddy field in the daytime were net emissions of 0.9-3.9 g N ha−1 h−1 whereas the exchange fluxes of NH3 in the nighttime were approximately zero. 相似文献
