Amniocentesis was performed in view of a paternal balanced chromosomal rearrangement t(4;20)(p16;p12), inv(18)(p11q11). The pregnancy was complicated by severe oligohydramnios. The fetal karyotype was unbalanced: 46XX, der(4), t(4;20)(p16;p12), inv(18) (p11q11)pat., thus resulting in partial trisomy 2Op and monosomy 4p. In addition, the amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) became increasingly elevated with gestational age. The pregnancy was terminated at 25 weeks. The fetus presented with typical facial dysmorphic features, unilateral cleft lip and palate, severe renal hypoplasia, consistent with the 4p- (Wolf-Hirschhorn) syndrome. 相似文献

Climate change impacts on a large-scale erosion coast of Hai Hau district,Vietnam and the adaptation

Among the effects of global warming, sea level rise (SLR) and severe typhoons pose the greatest threat to the stability of human settlements along coastlines. Therefore, countermeasures must be developed to mitigate the influences of strong typhoons and persistent SLR for coastal protection. This study assesses climate change impacts on coastal erosion, especially in two projected SLR scenarios of RCP2.6 and RCP8.5. The results show that SLR and severe typhoons lead to the increase of coastal erosion, beach lowering and scour. Moreover, as in projected SLR scenarios, average waves in high tide can cause severe soil erosion at inner slopes and lead to dyke failure by 2060. The paper highlights the need for additional countermeasures to protect the coast of Hai Hau district against SLR and severe typhoons. Among the alternatives available for countering these threats, applying soil stabilization and soil improvement combined with geosynthetics are promising strategies for coastal structures. Hybrid structures can be used with earth reinforcement and soil improvement. Additionally, the paper emphasizes the importance of multiple protective adaptations, including geosynthetics and ecological engineering measures against climate change-induced severe erosion on the coast of Hai Hau district. 相似文献

This laboratory study investigated the kinetics of leaf and DNA content decomposition in two varieties of tomato (Palmiro and Admiro) after incubation in soil for 35 days. Results revealed that the decrease of dry matter in leaves in both varieties did not follow a single exponential function and was better described by a double exponential model. Composite half-decrease times were 3.4 and 2.4 days for Palmiro and Admiro respectively. The same pattern was observed for DNA mass loss, although this was closer to a single exponential model with composite half-decrease times of 1.5 and 1.4 days. Genomic analysis showed that DNA in dried leaves at room temperature (not inoculated in the soil), remains intact or presents a weak degradation, and DNA extracted from leaves inoculated in non-sterile soil showed degradation after two days. These results indicate that before release an important quantity of DNA may be degraded inside plant tissues during decomposition in soil. 相似文献

A deterministic model for long-term behaviour of contaminants in the rootzone is developed that includes sorption, leaching, and plant uptake. The model is applied to cadmium accumulation in a sandy soil and uptake of cadmium by barley. Sensitivity analysis showed that the sensitivity of the leaching rate to changes in soil chemical and soil physical parameters decreases as a function of time, and becomes zero when steady state is reached. In contrast, accumulation of cadmium in soil and the plant uptake rate of barley are increasingly sensitive to soil chemical and soil physical parameters as time preceeds. To analyse cadmium behaviour in a field that is heterogeneous with respect to soil physical properties, the interstitial flow velocity was assumed to be a random, lognormally distributed variate. Using Monte Carlo simulation, the average plant uptake rate appeared to be much higher in the stochastic analysis than in the deterministic approach. Steady state is reached after a very long period of time. For a lognormally distributed proton activity, causing heterogeneity with respect to the sorption capacity of the soil, the model predicted similar deviations from the deterministic approach. It is concluded that reference values for groundwater and crop quality are exceeded earlier in a heterogeneous field than in a homogenous soil profile. Moreover, when average values suggest an acceptable situation, variability of the leaching rate and the plant uptake rate can still cause exceedance of reference values in part of the field. Analytical solutions to the linearized Boussinesq equation governing flow in an unconfined aquifer provide a unified mathematical framework to quantify relationships among lag time, attenuation and distance between aquifer recharge and discharge and the effect of an up-gradient no-flow boundary. We applied this framework to three types of recharge: (1) instantaneous, (2) periodic, and (3) constant rate for a finite duration. When the temporal scale of recharge exceeds the diffusive aquifer time scale, recharge will be reflected in discharge quickly and with little attenuation. When aquifer time scale is large, most recharge events are shorter in scale than that of the aquifer, resulting in large attenuation. Attenuation is more sensitive to boundary effects than lag time, and boundary effects increase as recharge time scale increases. Boundary effects can often be ignored when the recharge source is farther than 1/3 of the domain length away from the no-flow boundary. We illustrate analytical results with application to the economically critical Eastern Snake River Plain Aquifer in Idaho. In this aquifer, detectable annual and decadal cycles in discharge can result from recharge no farther than 20 and 60 km away from the discharge point, respectively. Nowadays, 'internal eutrophication' has become a widely accepted term in Dutch water management practice to describe the eutrophication of an ecosystem without additional external input of nutrients (N, P, K). Radon mass exhalation rate of soil samples was measured using an exhalation chamber of 10 dm(3) volume and a Lucas cell. The results show that mass of sample, grain size and water content influence the radon mass exhalation rate. For soil of (226)Ra activity concentration about 2500 Bq kg(-1) and samples within the range from 0.20 kg to 0.50 kg, the radon mass exhalation rate values are higher than those for samples of other masses. The observed radon exhalation rate is an inverse function of the average grain size. At the water content about 6% by weight, the radon mass exhalation rate reaches maximum, then it decreases with both increasing and decreasing of the water content in the sample. 相似文献

Metal accumulation in intertidal litter through decomposing leaf blades, sheaths and stems of Phragmites australis 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Metal contents of decomposing leaf blades, leaf sheaths and stems of common reed (Phragmites australis) were monitored by a litter bag method on the sediment of an intertidal brackish marsh in the Scheldt estuary (The Netherlands). On monthly intervals, two litter bags were retrieved from the marsh during 9 months for both leaf blades and sheaths and during 16 months for stems. All samples were dried, weighed and analysed for ash and Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn contents. Most concentrations increased considerably during the decomposition. Generally, also a very important net metal inflow into the litter bags could be observed. The inflow was highest for leaf blades. High correlations between ash contents and metal concentrations for leaf blades suggest that the increase of leaf blade metal contents can be due to physicochemical sorption of dissolved metals and an important infiltration of mud particles, which were not removed by rinsing the leaf blades with distilled water preceding the analyses. For stems, smaller amounts of inflowing ash and even outflowing ash amounts were found, which suggests that inflow of inorganic particles is not the major factor determining metal accumulation by stems on medium term. Ergosterol concentrations in stem tissue however proved to be correlated with metal contents, which suggests a significant role of fungal litter colonizers in metal accumulation. For leaf sheaths, the effects of physicochemical sorption, infiltration of mud particles and incorporation by microbial litter colonizers do not seem to be as pronounced as for stems and leaf blades. 相似文献

The occurrence of Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (DNAPL) contaminations in the subsurface is a threat for drinkwater resources in the western world. Surfactant-Enhanced Aquifer Remediation (SEAR) is widely considered as one of the most promising techniques to remediate DNAPL contaminations in-situ, be it with considerable additional costs compared to classical pump-and-treat remediations. A cost-effective design of the remediation set-up is therefore essential. In this work, a pilot SEAR test is executed at a DNAPL contaminated site in Belgium in order to collect data for the calibration of a multi-phase multi-component model. The calibrated model is used to assess a series of scenario-analyses for the full-scale remediation of the site. The remediation variables that were varied were the injection and extraction rate, the injection and extraction duration, and the surfactant injection concentrations. A constrained multi-objective optimization of the model was applied to obtain a Pareto set of optimal remediation strategies with different weights for the two objectives of the remediation: (i) the maximal removal of DNAPL and (ii) a total minimal cost. These Pareto curves can help decision makers to select an optimal remediation strategy in terms of cost and remediation efficiency. The Pareto front shows a considerable trade-off between the total remediation cost and the removed DNAPL mass. 相似文献
