Pd/alloy-based (Pd/Cu, Pd/Au) membrane reactors embedded into Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plants (IGCC-MR) enable the storage and/or use of the energy value of H2 to produce electricity while the CO2 enriched retentate exit stream becomes particularly suitable for high pressure CO2 capture-sequestration. There is undoubtedly a lack of operating experience associated with IGCC-MR plants, and therefore, sound process intensification principles/practices should be followed not only to enhance process system performance but also to ensure process safety and economic feasibility of an IGCC-MR plant. Motivated by the above considerations, a comprehensive process economic assessment framework for an inherently safe membrane Pd/alloy-based reactor integrated into an IGCC plant is proposed. In particular, a detailed Net Present Value (NPV) model has been developed to evaluate the economic viability of an IGCC-MR plant where the membrane reactor module design conforms to basic inherent safety principles. Sources of irreducible uncertainty (market, regulatory and technological) are explicitly recognized such as the power plant capacity factor, Pd price, membrane life time and CO2-taxes due to future regulatory action/policies. The effect of the above uncertainty drivers on the project's/plant's value is studied through Monte Carlo methods resulting in detailed NPV-distribution and process economic outcome profiles. The simulation results derived suggest that in the presence of (operational, economic and regulatory) uncertainties, inherently safe membrane reactor technology options integrated into IGCC plants could become economically viable. In particular, comparatively more attractive NPV distribution profiles are obtained when concrete safety risk-reducing measures are taken into account through pre-investment in process safety (equipment).  相似文献

Since its introduction in the early 1960s, the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has demonstrated a capacity to adapt and change in the face of new challenges. The reformed CAP, under AGENDA 2000, encourages more environmentally friendly farming practices. In the context of their rural development plans, Member States are required to link policies on agriculture with protection of the environment and to ensure that farmers meet environmental standards. Additionally, Member States should maintain and restore the quality of both their aquatic and adjacent terrestrial ecosystems according to the Directive 2000/60/EU, 'Establishing a framework for Community Action in the field of Water Policy'. Within this framework, agri-environmental indicators play an important role in planning and implementing CAP guidelines. However, selection and use of the proper indicators remains unresolved, considering that ecosystem processes are complex and interactions in most cases not obvious. This paper proposes a methodology for assessing the environmental state and impacts of current land use and management when implementing agri-environmental measures of CAP. The proposed methodology includes a modified Driving forces-Pressures-Impacts-Responses (DPSIR) framework, identification of Zones of Specific Functional Interest (ZSFI), and criteria for selecting agri-environmental indicators, which assess the functional performance of each zone and meet existing legislation. The Mygdonia Watershed (Greece) is an example where through use of both the appropriate Minimum Data Set of agri-environmental indicators at the identified zones and the proposed modified DPSIR, the functioning performance of each ZSFI can be assessed to evaluate the applied agri-environmental measures.  相似文献

Natural CO2 fields can be used to identify trapping mechanisms, the fate and the geochemical consequences of geologically stored CO2 in shallow aquifers. The Florina Basin in Greece is regarded as a CO2 naturally leaking analog due to millions of years of gas accumulation in a Tertiary sand formation. This research was conducted in order to identify the CO2 fingerprints and to investigate and evaluate the factors controlling the groundwater quality in the basin. Leaking CO2 is observed in the aquifers and at the surface. The basin is filled with clastic sediments. It can provide information regarding the fate of CO2 and the possible impacts that can be used as reference in demonstration and industrial projects. Water sampling campaigns were conducted to determine the impact of the gas‐water long‐term interactions in the shallow aquifers. The CO2 has increased the concentration (in relation to other water samples from the basin) of certain elements like Fe, Mn, Na, Cl, and Br but only in few cases exceeds the EU drinking limit. The chemistry of the groundwater in the Florina Basin aquifers was found to be controlled mainly by the CO2‐water‐rock interactions due to the mineralogy of the aquifers (calcite and silicates including pyroxenes and chlorite). Metal attenuation processes have prevented the aquifers from brine contamination. Considering the Florina Basin is a natural analog for studying the leaking and migration pathways of stored CO2 and that only minor affects have been identified in the groundwater chemistry, the conclusions of this research are promising for the possible usage of a basin of similar geology and lithology for deep CO2 storage. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry and John Wiley & Sons, Ltd  相似文献

In the agri-food chain, while the impact of producers and consumers on sustainability has been well studied, food processing has been less explored. This position paper aims to discuss the potential of food processing to address all food and nutrition security (FNS) outcomes in order to achieve improved food system sustainability. First, FNS dimensions and the four pillars of agro-food industry sustainability are defined, with a focus on ultra-processed foods. Second, the food matrix concept is developed as a new paradigm to holistically address all FNS. It is concluded that food processing should become more involved in circular food systems and bioeconomy, and that we need to relocate food production, processing, and consumption to be more aligned with regional food production specificities. For this, minimal processing to preserve food matrices should be preferred. Therefore, the strong current tendency to develop reductionist and siloed innovative solutions to improve the sustainability of food systems should be questioned.  相似文献
