To investigate heat transfer of char from waste tire pyrolysis, the cooling of char was simulated by the computational fluid dynamics. To scrutinize the heat transfer characteristics, bed height, temperature of cooling wall, and mixing time were selected as calculation parameters. From the results, increasing the char bed height from 0.005 to 0.02 m, the total heat transfer is decreased as from 45.5 to 26.5 J. As the char bed height is further increased from 0.02 to 0.06 m, the total heat transfer is decreased from 26.5 to 9.1 J. The char bed height affects the total heat transfer significantly. The total heat transfer decreases from 15.9 to 14.0 J as the temperature of cooling wall increases from 273.15 to 323.15 K. The total heat transfer mildly depends on the temperature of cooling wall. The particle mixing time increases from 10 to 120 s and the total heat transfer decreases from 28.6 to 22.6 J. It is noted that the particle contact is enhanced between char particles as well as the particles and cooling wall as the particle mixing time decreases. For 35 years, Kyoto City has conducted detailed household waste composition surveys under the guidance of Kyoto University by dividing household waste into approximately 400 categories. In addition, the city has conducted detailed composition surveys of commercial waste generated by businesses. These surveys show that food loss accounts for approximately 40% of total waste, of which leftovers and untouched food account for about 40% in both households and business facilities. Consequently, the annual generation of household and commercial food loss is estimated at about 30,000 tons. Various efforts have been made to reduce waste, including food loss, but further reduction in environmental burden is needed. Thus, Kyoto City revised the ordinance for waste reduction, and in March 2015, formulated a new municipal waste management plan. The plan not only includes the 2Rs (reduce, reuse), but also, for the first time in Japan, sets quantitative targets for reducing food loss. Kyoto City must ensure that the necessary waste reduction measures are clearly explained to the residents and business operators. To ensure that this plan is successful, it is important to clarify concrete actions that residents and business operators should implement, along with their effects. 相似文献

During the second half of the 20th century, the Ganga River ecosystem has been continuously altered by several ongoing anthropogenic
processes, accommodating multi-dimensional pressure due to increase of nearly four-fold human population. For solution of
any environmental issues of the river, the Earth System Science approach is required to have maximum socio-economic benefits
to millions of people living in Indian and Bangladesh. A bibliography containing more than 250 references on environmental

In this paper, we describe an air temperature movement by mapping its time series to the polar coordinates: the value of the
time series is plotted on the radial coordinate and the time on the angular coordinate. In this way, both the yearly and daily
air temperature movements from five different locations of China are used to demonstrate that, in an intuitionistic view,
air temperature movement is neither random nor chaotic, but has its own orbit. We then propose an elliptic orbit model for
the air temperature movement. Our proposed model provides quite good results when it is applied to the evaluation of yearly
air temperature movements in eight locations in various parts of the world, and the evaluation of daily air temperature movements
in five locations in Hunan Province of China on December 17, 2005. Results show that our approach provides a concise and helpful

Numerical models are often used to evaluate the potential impact of human alternation of natural water bodies and to help
the design of the alternation to mitigate its impacts. In the past decade, three-dimensional hydrodynamic and reactive transport
modeling has matured from a research subject to a practical analysis technology. This paper presents a practical study in
which a three-dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model [hydrodynamic eutrophication model (HEM-3D)] was applied to
determine the optimal location for treated wastewater discharged from marine outfall system in the Keelung harbor and the
adjacent coastal sea. First, model validation was conducted with respect to surface elevation, current, and water quality
variables measured in the Keelung harbor station and its coastal sea. The overall performance of the model was in qualitative
agreement with the available field data. The model was then used to evaluate several scenarios of the locations from marine
outfall system. Based on model simulation results, a location at the northeast of Ho-Ping Island was recommended for adoption
because the environmental impact is smaller than any other alternative.

Recently, the New Morris Method has been presented as an effective sensitivity analysis tool for mathematical models. The
New Morris Method estimates the sensitivity of an output parameter to a given set of input parameters (first-order effects)
and the extent these parameters interact with each other (second-order effects). This method requires the specification of
two parameters (runs and resolution) that control the sampling of the output parameter to determine its sensitivity to various
inputs. The criteria for these parameters have been set on the analysis of a well-behaved analytical function (see Cropp and
Braddock, Reliab. Eng. Syst. Saf. 78:77–83, 2002), which may not be applicable to other physical models that describe complex
processes. This paper will investigate the appropriateness of the criteria from (Cropp and Braddock, 2002) and hence the effectiveness
of the New Morris Method to determine the sensitivity behaviour of two hydrologic models: the Soil Erosion and Deposition
System and Griffith University Representation of Urban Hydrology. In the first case, this paper will separately analyse the
sensitivity of an output parameter on a set of input parameters (first- and second-order effects) for each model and discuss
the physical meaning of these sensitivities. This will be followed by an investigation into the sampling criteria by exploring
the convergence of the sensitivity behaviour for each model as the sampling of the parameter space is increased. By comparing
these trends to the convergence behaviour from Cropp and Braddock (2002), we will determine how well the New Morris Method
estimates the sensitivity for each model and whether the sampling criteria are appropriate for these models. It will be shown
that the New Morris Method can provide additional insight into the functioning of these models, and that, under a different
metric, the sensitivity behaviour of these models does converge confirming the sampling criteria set by Cropp and Braddock. 相似文献

Awareness of farm animal welfare issues is growing in Canada, as part of a larger food movement. The baseline Canadian standards for farm animal welfare—the Recommended Codes of Practice for the Care and Handling of Farm Animals—are up for revision. The success of these standards will depend in part on perceived legitimacy, which helps determine whether voluntary code systems are adopted, implemented, and accepted by target audiences. In the context of the Codes, legitimacy will also hinge on whether the standards-developers marshal narratives about farm animals that accord with their audiences’ expectations. The aim of this paper is to catalogue factors that influence legitimacy in farm animal welfare standard-setting, including which narratives of animal welfare are emphasized by standard-setters. Drawing upon the example of the baseline Canadian standards, and the National Farm Animal Care Council, the paper will present a theoretical and methodological framework for analyzing legitimacy in the context of animal welfare standards-development and discuss associated policy considerations. 相似文献

The term natural is effective in the marketing of a wide variety of foods. This ambiguous term carries important meaning in Western culture.
To challenge an uncritical understanding of natural with respect to food and to explore the ambiguity of the term, the development of Western ideas of nature is first discussed. Personification and hypostasization of nature are given special emphasis. Leo Marx’s idea of the pastoral
design in literature is then used to explore the meaning of natural as applied to food, emphasizing Marx’s distinction between
a sentimental and a complex pastoral. The latter is applied to natural as a means of collapsing a dichotomy of man and nature to the idea of second nature. From this perspective an understanding of the industrialization of the food system and the importance of local and organic
food are considered. The extent to which processed foods might properly be considered natural is raised and discussed for
several common foods. Although marketing of natural foods might make us think that we consume nature, I suggest that what
is consumed is more appropriately second nature. I suggest that in order to maintain a critical perspective about one’s relationship
to the natural world, everyone should make an attempt to experience the complex pastoral with respect to at least something
that is consumed as food. When nature is understood as second nature in the context of a complex pastoral, the question of
whether a food or ingredient is to be considered natural is replaced by deliberative thought based on our best knowledge and
judgment, and the result will be less constrained by ideology. 相似文献
