城市的发展改变了许多河流的自然水文环境,并导致河流生态系统中水质、物理生境和生物完整性下降。评估受损河流水体修复的效果,需要结合物理、化学的参数,以及对生物结构、多样性和过程的影响。构建了包含河流水力、水质、水生生物、河岸带及物理结构5个方面15个指标的城市河流生态修复评估指标体系,运用群组决策的层次分析法(AHP),确定了各指标的权重,重要性排序前5位依次为:水质污染指数、鱼类IBI、水源补给量、藻类多样性、透明度。并以我国南方城市岐江河整治修复状况为例进行综合评价,结果表明,河流生态系统修复评估结果为可以接受,体现了河流整治工程使河流水质、生态的状况有所改善,但河流生态系统恢复需要较长的周期,修复初期生态系统仍处于受损状态。〖  相似文献

The influence of aqueous‐ and mineral‐phase iron on royal demolition explosive (RDX) destruction has been previously investigated in theoretical settings and bench‐scale tests by various practitioners. The feasible use of in situ redox manipulation to create reactive Fe(II) is contingent upon the aquifer containing enough iron oxides and iron‐bearing clay minerals for the treated zone to remain effective. The following is a summary of a bench‐scale assessment of this relationship using aquifer material from an ongoing groundwater remediation effort at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (IAAP). A bench‐scale study was designed to determine the relative contributions of the biotic and iron‐mediated abiotic degradation processes to the net decrease in RDX observed at the site using saturated aquifer samples collected from within the RDX plume. Sterilized samples with a sufficient stoichiometric excess of both soluble and mineral‐phase iron reduced concentrations of RDX in both the soil and water fractions to the same extent as the samples containing native biota. These results indicate that in situ, abiotic degradation of RDX is feasible in areas unsuitable to biotic degradation processes, yielding an additional alternative for in situ RDX remediation. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Landfill functional stability provides a target that supports no environmental threat at the relevant point of exposure in the absence of active control systems. With respect to leachate management, this study investigates “gateway” indicators for functional stability in terms of the predictability of leachate characteristics, and thus potential threat to water quality posed by leachate emissions. Historical studies conducted on changes in municipal solid waste (MSW) leachate concentrations over time (longitudinal analysis) have concentrated on indicator compounds, primarily chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). However, validation of these studies using an expanded database and larger constituent sets has not been performed. This study evaluated leachate data using a mixed-effects regression model to determine the extent to which leachate constituent degradation can be predicted based on waste age or operational practices. The final dataset analyzed consisted of a total of 1402 samples from 101 MSW landfills. Results from the study indicated that all leachate constituents exhibit a decreasing trend with time in the post-closure period, with 16 of the 25 target analytes and aggregate classes exhibiting a statistically significant trend consistent with well-studied indicators such as BOD. Decreasing trends in BOD concentration after landfill closure can thus be considered representative of trends for many leachate constituents of concern.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Although the maternal fish consumption is supposed to have beneficial effects on development of infants, it may be harmful for child cognitive development since fish is a common source of methylmercury. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Purpose of the study was to describe the usual pattern of fish consumption during pregnancy in Poland and explain the variability of prenatal mercury exposure due to fish intake by mothers. The other endpoint of the study was the assessment of the cognitive and psychomotor development of infants related to prenatal mercury exposure over the 3-year follow-up. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study sample consisted of 374 infants born at 33-42 weeks of gestation between January 2001 and March 2003 to mothers attending ambulatory prenatal clinics in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. Total mercury level in whole cord blood was measured and the Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID-II) was used to assess the mental (MDI) and psychomotor developmental index (PDI) in children at 12, 24 and 36 months of age. RESULTS: Self-reported weekly amount of fish consumption during the first two trimesters of pregnancy correlated positively with umbilical cord mercury concentrations (r(s)=0.22, p<0.0001). The corresponding correlation coefficient for the fish consumption in the third trimester of pregnancy was 0.21, p<0.0001. There was an inverse association between mercury exposure and both MDI (beta regression coeff.=-2.8, p=0.01) and PDI scores (beta coeff.=-2.3, p=0.04) at 12 months of age. Subsequent BSID-II testing at 24 and 36 months did not confirm significant association between exposure and cognitive or psychomotor function. The estimates of association between mercury prenatal exposure and the development of infants, which were based on the longitudinal analysis of all BSID-II measurements done in the follow-up (generalized estimating equations statistical model) showed that the performance deficit observed at 12 months of age was of border significance.  相似文献

Data provided by the Australian Commonwealth Bureaus of Meteorology and Mineral Resources are used in this water budget study of the Queanbeyan River watershed. Air and soil temperatures show close correlation from month to month during the five-year period. A close parallel also exists for the air temperature values and the seasonal variations in the Nett-Moisture (rainfall minus evaporation) plots. Ground-water levels appear to be influenced by drought periods and by under groundwater storage conditions such as “nick-points” in the sub-surface migration conditions. The groundwater levels were unusually high early in the drought year of 1964-65. The annual rainfall totals for 1962, 1963, and 1966 were all exceeded by the evaporation totals. In 1964 and in 1965 (the drought year) the evaporation total exceeded the rainfall total. The minimum annual water discharge values for the Queanbeyan River ranged from 4.9″ in 1963 to 1.4′ in 1965.  相似文献

Summary Defense behavior by brooding Gonodactylus bredini females was studied in staged fights against conspecific challengers. Females brooding eggs were more successful at defending their dwelling cavities than were nonreproductive females. Females caring for larvae were no more successful at cavity defense than were controls.Brooding females do not defend cavities by using more aggressive acts or by engaging in longer fights than nonreproductive females. The increase in defense success seems to be due to a greater willingness to continue a contest after being struck by a challenger. Also, brooding females make more frequent use of threats, in particular the Meral Spread display, than controls.Females defend cavities as vigorously as if they still had eggs 4 or 5 days after their eggs have been removed. Within the first 24 h after oviposition, a female's success at defending a cavity is greatly reduced compared to that of a female just 1 day later.  相似文献

Activity of delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALA-D) in blood and organs is a biomarker of lead (Pb) contamination in fish. Because current methods cannot measure the bioavailability of Pb, this biomarker may predict exposure more accurately than analysis of Pb concentrations in water. Juvenile fish are generally more sensitive to Pb than adult fish, but due to their small size, analysis of ALA-D in blood and individual organs is difficult. By modifying the erythrocyte ALA-D procedure, we developed a method to measure ALA-D activity on the supernatant from the tissue homogenate of whole fish (juvenile rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss). Significant decreases in the activity of ALA-D in rainbow trout were observed after a 29-day exposure to 121 and 201 microg Pb liter(-1), but not after exposure to 29 or 48 microg Pb liter(-1). Pb also significantly reduced growth in fish exposed to 201 microg Pb liter(-1).  相似文献

Parasitism at the Landscape Scale: Cowbirds Prefer Forests   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Landscape-scale examination of parasitism patterns of Brown-headed Cowbirds ( Molothrus ater ) revealed heterogeneous parasitism rates across the mosaic of a forest and associated old-field communities. In a two year study in Dutchess County, New York, we found a significantly higher parasitism rate in the forest-interior community ( n = 301 nests; 17 species) than on the species in the adjacent and nearby old field and edge ( n = 328 nests; 15 species; 32.3% versus 6.5%; p < 0.0001). Cowbirds invaded a mature 1300-ha forest stand even when their traditional host species were available in adjacent old-field and edge habitats. The forest and old-field study areas were located in a 38,000-ha township with 55% forest cover and contained numerous agriculture, dairy, and horse farms that provided favorable habitat for cowbirds. Within-forest examination of parasitism patterns revealed four aspects of cowbird parasitism that contrasted with patterns described in other regions: (1) parasitism was concentrated significantly more often on ground- and low-nesting (nests ≤ 1 m) forest species than on medium- and high-nesting species (nests> 1 m; 35.01% versus 29.93%; p = 0.0393); (2) parasitism was not significantly greater on Neotropical migrant species than on short-distance migrants and residents; (3) the parasitism rate was not higher in nests close to edges; and (4) the parasitism level was low on certain forest species (such as Wood Thrush) that have experienced high parasitism levels in the Midwest. From a management perspective these data suggest that cowbirds exhibit regional differences in host and habitat use; the target host community of a particular cowbird population is unpredictable at the landscape scale; and a landscape scale should be used in designing cowbird studies to accurately assess local population dynamics.  相似文献

The toxicity of methoxychlor, determined in acute and chronic studies using larval, juvenile, and adult stages of the Dungeness crab, Cancer magister Dana, was inversely related to the age of the crabs after hatching and increased with the length of exposure. The 96-h LC50's for zoeae, juveniles, and adults were 0.42, 5.10, and 130 g/l, respectively. Levels causing decreased survival of these same stages during exposures of more than 60 days were 0.05, 0.40, and 4.0 g/l, respectively. Hatching of eggs was not adversely affected by methoxychlor concentrations up to 10 g/l, and molting from prezoeae to zoeae was reduced only 30% from controls at the latter exposure concentration. Methoxychlor concentrations of 0.05 and 4.0 g/l delayed motting of larval and juvenile crabs, respectively, and this delay was as much as 10 days for the juveniles. Sensitivity of adult and juvenile crabs to methoxychlor increased during ecdysis. In uptake experiments, juvenile crabs concentrated methoxychlor more rapidly than did adults. Juveniles exposed to 2.0 g/l of methoxychlor and adults exposed to 1.8 and 7.5 g/l had whole body methoxychlor concentrations after 12 days of 0.88, 0.10, and 0.51 mg/kg, respectively. Loss of the pesticide from adult crabs was rapid, and was 95% complete after 15 days of depuration. Concentrations of methoxychlor in individual tissues were found to be highest in the exoskeleton, gill, and hepatopancreas, in declining order, with less than a two-fold difference among these tissues. About 81% of the methoxychlor measured in whole body samples was associated with the exoskeleton, but it is not known whether or not the pesticide was transported through the culticle to internal tissues.Technical Paper No. 4133, Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station.  相似文献

Several predictive models were used to assess aquatic exposure, persistence (P) and potential for long-range transport (LRT) of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene (ENB). Such estimations are components of the assessment process for persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) substances, which are also referred to as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). An ecological exposure assessment for ENB from manufacturing activities was conducted based on physical/chemical properties, monitoring data, and degradation, transport and distribution estimates. Based on the results of several model predictions, chronic exposure of aquatic organisms is not expected, due to the anticipated residence time of ENB in aquatic ecosystems. These modeled results consistently predict ENB does not present the potential to persist in the environment. Volatilization from water to the air is calculated to occur at a relatively rapid rate for ENB based on its Henry's Law constant. Once in the air, ENB is expected to degrade rapidly due to oxidation by hydroxyl radicals and ozone based on calculated atmospheric half-lives of 57 and 27 min, respectively. Additionally, ENB is not predicted to undergo long-range transport based on the short atmospheric half-life due to oxidation by hydroxyl radicals and ozone. Additionally, based on predicted exposure from site-specific emission using the EPA model EFAST, ENB is not expected to reach concentrations of concern for chronic aquatic toxicity endpoints.  相似文献
