Emission characteristics of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) in diesel engine were studied with variable load rate of the diesel engine with the emission test cycles, US D-13 mode. The load rate is changed from 25% to 50% and 75% at constant speed of 2400 rpm. PCDD/Fs concentration and phase distribution of PCDD/Fs with the isokinetic sampling of exhaust gas is obtained in this study. The average PCDD/Fs concentrations per unit of exhaust gas with 25%, 50% and 75% load rate are 14.5, 6.9 and 6.4 pg-TEQ/N m3, respectively. In all diesel engine runs, PCDFs are more prevalent than PCDDs. As a load rate is increased, the ratio of PCDDs is gradually decreased. The amount of high-chlorinated PCDDs emitted in diesel engine is larger than that of low-chlorinated PCDDs. The significant emission form of PCDD/Fs produced from diesel engines exhaust is a gas phase.  相似文献

The use of computers in process control has improved productivity and product quality but has also caused a number of accidents. If we learn from these accidents we may be able to prevent them from happening again. This paper advocates a systematic approach to deriving and organising safety-related questions from past incidents and then applying the questions to consider the safety issues related to the whole life-cycle of computer-controlled plants. Over 170 questions were derived from 300 incident reports provided by two major organisations. The questions are organised into a structured framework so that relevant questions can be located easily when considering different aspects of a computer-controlled plant. Examples illustrating the application of the questions are given. The whole set of questions is listed in the Appendix.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Proper selection of curve number values will improve the capability of the SCS-Curve Number procedure in predicting runoff. Both CREAMS and GLEAMS models use the Smith and Williams (1980) approach of converting CNII (curve number value for average antecedent moisture conditions) into CNI (curve number value for dry antecedent moisture conditions) in calculating the soil retention parameter (S). CREAMS and GLEAMS have been found to under predict runoff because of the internal conversion of CNII to CNI. This study shows modifications of the GLEAMS model using CMI without converting it to CM and it also shows the seasonal curve number approaches with and without converting CNII to CNI. Results indicate that using CNII without internal conversion to CNI provides better runoff and erosion predictions than the original version of GLEAMS and versions with seasonal curve numbers when tested with four years of field data in the Coastal Plain physiographic region of Maryland.  相似文献

This study investigated Taiwan's industries to identify the characteristics of companies most advanced in environmental design. Thirty design principles in five categories were used to define advanced environmental design. The five categories are: use of raw materials, use of energy, design for recyclability, product life cycle assessment, and packaging optimization. We found that of the 30 design principles only eight were applied consistently by Taiwanese manufacturers. Most effort was given to the “use of energy” category. The most advanced environmental design was found at large companies—those with over 2000 employees, 3 billion in capital, and/or 3 billion in annual sales.  相似文献

An understanding of the long-term changes in the nitrate contamination pattern of unconfined groundwater is critical to conservation of drinking water in rural areas supporting mixed land-use activities such as cropping, livestock farming, and residence. To examine the effect of different land-use activities on nitrate contamination, groundwater samples were collected monthly for 3 years (1997–1999) from 12 wells in rural areas with different land-use activities and analyzed for the concentrations and N isotopic ratios (δ15N) of nitrate. The characteristics of nitrate contamination clearly differed with land-use activities. The percentages of samples that had a nitrate concentration exceeding the national standard for drinking water (10 mg N L−1) were 0, 23, 43, and 67% for the uncontaminated natural area, cropping area, cropping-livestock farming complex area, and residential area, respectively. The range of δ15N values was between +1.4 and +4.5‰ for groundwater nitrate from the uncontaminated natural area. In the cropping area, the δ15N values were slightly different with the type of fertilizer applied to fields in the vicinity of the well, and the values ranged between +8.7 and +14.4‰ for the compost-applied area and between +4.5 and +8.5‰ for the area where urea was applied with compost. The δ15N values of the cropping-livestock farming complex area ranged from +1.0 to +17.7‰, probably resulting from mixed contamination sources (inorganic fertilizer and livestock manure). The well located closest to the livestock feedlot had relatively higher δ15N values, with a range between +8.7 and +17.6‰. In the residential area, a higher δ15N (most frequently above +10‰) of nitrate suggested that the major source of contamination was effluent from leaky septic tanks. Our data showed that unconfined groundwater is susceptible to land-use activities above the aquifers, and the impacts of the activities could be more precisely inferred from long-term data on the concentration and δ15N of nitrate. By determining the impacts, more effective (specific to contamination sources) measures for preventing groundwater quality could be implemented.  相似文献

This study performs a field analysis of the diffusion collection rate coefficients of radial geometry passive samplers to measure NO2 in a Mediterranean coastal area. The study shows that the collection rate coefficients are not constant and depend on certain environmental parameters as well as on the levels of some co-pollutants. A mathematical model, which explains the variation of the collection rate coefficient, has been established.  相似文献

This study aimed to assess the impacts of climate change on residential energy consumption in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. The monthly electricity consumption data for the period 2011–2014 and long-term climate variables namely monthly rainfall and temperature records (1961–2010) were used in the study. An ensemble of six global circulation models (GCMs) of coupled model intercomparison project phase 5 (CMIP5) namely, BCCCSM1-1, CanESM2, MIROC5, MIROC-ESM, MIROC-ESM-CHEM, and NorESM1-M under four representative concentration pathway (RCP) scenarios were used to project future changes in rainfall and temperature. The regression models describing the relationship between historical energy consumption and climate variables were developed to project future changes in energy consumptions. The results revealed that daily energy consumption in Dhaka city increases in the range of 6.46–11.97 and 2.37–6.25 MkWh at 95% level of confidence for every increase of temperature by 1 °C and daily average rainfall by 1 mm, respectively. This study concluded that daily total residential energy demand and peak demand in Dhaka city can increase up to 5.9–15.6 and 5.1–16.7%, respectively, by the end of this century under different climate change scenarios.  相似文献

We investigated chemical and Sr isotopic composition of monthly rainwater collected on Peng-Chia-Yu (PCY) in northern Taiwan. Rainwater 87Sr/86Sr ratios, Na/Cl, Ca/Cl, Sr/Cl, Sr/Ca, NH4/Cl, NO3/Cl, SO4/Cl and Na/Sr, showed clear seasonal cycles, reflecting mixture of loess carbonates (high Ca/Sr and more radiogenic 87Sr/86Sr) and seawater (low Ca/Sr and intermediate 87Sr/86Sr). Model results showed that the former source contributes up to 45% during the winter monsoon period, but seawater is the dominant Sr source in rainwater (>50%) at other times. Two anomalously low 87Sr/86Sr values occurred in July and August 1998, coinciding with the Merapi eruption in Indonesia. Air-mass backward trajectories and the geochemical and isotopic compositions in rainwater and Merapi lava (i.e. Ca/Sr = 100 and 87Sr/86Sr = 0.705400) suggested that the Merapi eruption delivered ash across the western equatorial Pacific to PCY. Aerosols leaching experiments were conducted to examine the impact of the 1998 eruption, demonstrating that only a minor terrestrial signature can be extracted by distilled water, implying rapid dispatch of volcanic gases or high-efficiency dissolution of ash related substance in acidic rains.  相似文献
