Decisions on selecting an appropriate site for temporary shelter used to be taken in a limited amount of time after a disaster. The need for a systematic method in this area inspired the MADM (multi‐attribute decision making) for complex disaster management decisions. This research proposes a model for appropriate and systematic site selection for temporary shelters, before an earthquake, using a geographical information system and MADM based on an earthquake damage assessment. After the effective criteria for site selection of temporary shelters are determined, the geographical layers of these criteria are prepared for Municipal District No.1 of Greater Tehran, the capital of Iran. Given these attributes and the required shelter area (415–610 hectares), 14 zones are proposed initially. Various MADM methods are used for the final selection. The mean of the aggregated ranking results are determined, and 10 of the 14 initial zones are ranked. 相似文献
The combination of electrocoagulation with another process is a promising approach to enhance the removal efficiency of water pollutants. For instance, free radical-assisted electrocoagulation is a new combination showing higher performance. There are different combinations depending on the free radical source. This article reviews free radical-assisted electrocoagulation processes. We discuss electrocoagulation mechanisms; ozone-assisted electrocoagulation processes; advanced oxidation-assisted electrocoagulation processes; and ultrasound-assisted electrocoagulation. We present kinetic models used in free radical-assisted electrocoagulation, scale-up of free radical-assisted electrocoagulation and cost estimation. The major points are: most of the available studies have been done at laboratory scale with synthetic wastewater, and lack holistic and systematic approaches to consider the process complexity. The performance of the combined process is improved, and the removal efficiency is increased especially with ozone-assisted electrocoagulation, which gives a removal efficiency of more than 95%. The use of ultrasound energy with electrocoagulation is advantageous in reducing the problem of electrode passivation. 相似文献
Calendula alata plants were tested for their potential to remove stable cesium and lead from solutions in a 15-day period. The plants were grown hydroponically and placed in solutions containing CsCl and Pb(C?H?O?)? at different concentrations (0.6, 2 and 5 mg l?1). When plants were incubated in CsCl solutions 46.84 ± 2.12%, 41.35 ± 1.59%, and 52.06 ± 1.02% cesium was found to be remediated after 15 days. Moreover, more than 99% lead was removed from the Pb(C?H?O?)? solution in all three concentrations after 15 days during the same period. When both CsCl and Pb(C?H?O?)? were supplemented together in the solution, 9.92 ± 1.22%, 45.56 ± 3.52%, and 46.16 ± 1.48% cesium and 95.30 ± 0.72%, 96.64 ± 0.30%, and 99.02 ± 0.04% lead were removed after 15 days. The present study suggests that hydroponically grown C. alata could be used as a potential candidate plant for phytoremediation of cesium and lead from solutions; however, plants were found to be more efficient for the remediation of lead than cesium. 相似文献
The current study proposes a novel and improved cigarette filtration design comprising cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) and powdered activated carbons (PACs) with different dry matter contents. The proposed filter samples were primarily analyzed to verify their applicability as cigarette filters via measurements and standard tests, such as SEM, BET, DSC, and airflow permeability analysis. The results were compared with the cellulose acetate (CA) sample used as a conventional cigarette filter. The preliminary results indicated noticeable improvement compared to the reference CA. Also, the cigarettes were tested using a smoking machine, and the filtered smoke was analyzed using GC–MS to evaluate the filters' performance in reducing the harmful substances present in the smoke. The results showed that the filters made of CNF and PAC significantly decreased the toxic substances compared with the reference but did not affect the nicotine substantially and therefore will not negatively impact the trance level of smokers.
The shrinkage of cement-based materials is a critical dimensional property that needs proper attention as it can influence the corresponding characteristics especially when the preparation of such cement-based material is done in hot weather. Studies have shown that the casting or curing conditions influence the performance of concrete. However, there is limited understanding of the combined role of casting temperature and curing conditions, especially for concrete made with unconventional binders. In this study, five supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) were utilized as the substitute of the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) at different ratios to produce greener concrete and improve its characteristics and sustainability. The influence of four casting temperatures (i.e., 25 °C, 32 °C, 38 °C, and 45 °C) and two curing regimes (i.e., covering of samples using wet burlap and applying curing compound on the surface of samples) on the corresponding compressive strength and drying shrinkage at various ages was studied. The outcomes of this research revealed that the composition of the binders has a substantial impact on the characteristics of concrete. In addition, the casting temperature and curing regimes also have a huge role on the compressive strength of concrete produced with binary binders. For example, the compressive strength at 3 days of concrete made at 25 °C made with binary binders was reduced up to 31% compared to that made with only OPC as the binder when cured using wet burlap. Nonetheless, less than 38 ℃ was suitable to minimize the durability issues in the studied blended cement mixes.

The biosorption potential of processed walnut shell for Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions from aqueous solutions was explored. The effects of pH, contact time, initial ion concentration, and amount of dried adsorbent were studied in batch experiments. The maximum adsorption was achieved within the pH range 4.0–6.0. The equilibrium data were well fitted by the Langmuir isotherm model. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacities were found to be 32?g?kg?1 and 11.6?g?kg?1 for Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions, respectively. Kinetic data were best described by the pseudo-second-order model. The structural features of the adsorbent were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, which confirmed the involvement of hydroxyl (–OH), carboxyl (–COO–), and carbonyl (C=O) groups in metal sorption. This readily available adsorbent is efficient in the uptake of Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions from an aqueous solution and could be used for the treatment of wastewater streams bearing these metal ions. 相似文献
