This is the first detailed characterization of the airborne bacterial profiles in indoor environments. Two restaurants were selected for this study. Fifteen genera of bacteria were isolated from each restaurant and identified by three different bacterial identification systems including MIDI, Biolog and Riboprinter®. The dominant bacteria of both restaurants were Gram-positive bacteria in which Micrococcus and Bacillus species were the most abundant. Most bacteria identified were representative species of skin and respiratory tract of human, and soil. Although the bacterial levels in these two restaurants were below the limit of the Hong Kong Indoor Air Quality Objective (HKIAQO) Level 1 standard (i.e., < 500 cfu/m3), the majority of these bacteria were opportunistic pathogens. These results suggested that the identity of airborne bacteria should also be included in the IAQ to ensure there is a safety guideline for the public. 相似文献

Microwave (MW) irradiation, a less energy-intensive irradiation technique, was employed to promote the changes in physicochemical properties of soil organic matter (SOM). MW was irradiated to forest soils for 10 min. Then, the physical and chemical properties of the SOM were analyzed with UV absorbance spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and size exclusion chromatography. Also, the SOM was fractionated into biopolymer, fulvic acid, and humic acid, and each fraction was analyzed quantitatively. These analyses revealed that the SOM became more aromatic and nonpolar, highly condensed, and macromolecular organic substances that possess a higher amount of functional groups found in highly humified substances than the original SOM as a result of the MW irradiation. The humification-like alteration of SOM property was attributable to the thermal cracking and to the radical reaction, particularly when the MW was irradiated along with activated carbon under the aerobic condition. The results of this study suggest that the artificial and enhanced property changes of SOM can be accomplished by MW irradiation on an engineering time scale, which can contribute to the successful soil and groundwater remediation practice. 相似文献

This study presents the adverse effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WwTPs) on fish health. A study of chronic exposure to WwTPs effluent for 10 months was undertaken in high-back crucian carp (Carassius auratus) during different life stages, covering early-life-stage (ELS), prespawning period, and postspawning period. Condition factor (CF), gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI), and plasma vitellogenin (VTG) levels were employed as indicators to assess biological effects of effluent on this gynogenesis species. Meanwhile, some high-back crucian carp were caged in Demonstration Base of Biological Purification for Filter-feeding Fish (hereinafter, Demonstration Base), as WwTPs effluent exposure controls. In the meantime, a depuration study was carried out to determine whether or not the estrogenic effects caused by effluent exposure could be reduced after moving fish into EDCs-free water. CF, HSI, GSI, and plasma Vtg levels of high-back crucian carp caged in Demonstration Base were generally in accordance with seasonal change. Effluent exposure inhibited gonadal growth, reducing GSI in ELS while increasing it around spawning, sharpened liver burdens, increasing HSI, and induced abnormal Vtg expression in juvenile high-back crucian carp, augmenting Vtg concentrations in plasma. Around spawning period, Vtg in high-back crucian carp were mainly induced by endogenous estrogens, and EDCs in effluent had less influence on them. Staying in EDCs-free water for 30 days made high-back crucian carp recover from effects of previous effluent exposure, relieving inhibition of gonadal development and hypertrophy of liver as well as reducing Vtg induced by EDCs in effluent. The results revealed that high-back crucian carp in ELS are more sensitive to WwTPs effluent exposure. Due to material degradation in tubing, the heat exchanger for the primary coolant of the 1 MW Tsing Hua Open-pool Reactor has minor leakage to the secondary cooling system since 1970. In the past 20 years, trace amounts of 58,60Co, 51Cr, 137Cs, 54Mn, 46Sc, and 65Zn have leaked through the cooling system, accumulated, and eventually trapped in the discharge pond directly in front of the reactor. The distribution of these radionuclides in the mud at different depths and various locations in the pond was measured with standard procedures of radioactive soil sampling and counting techniques. Concentration of corrosion products, with no more than 40 KBq/Kg dry at the hottest spot, was contour-mapped to reveal the accumulation patterns of these trace level radioactive products at the end of the 20-year period. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the particulate air pollution in selected roadside microenvironments of Hong Kong through an intensive field study dated from January 1997 to February 1997. The study employed the microenvironment monitoring technique to access the exposure of pedestrians to respirable suspended particulate and airborne lead (Pb) at heavily trafficked roadsides. A total of 62 roadside sites in 14 districts covering the most urbanized and densely populated areas were selected. It was found that pedestrians were exposed to a 24 h average of respirable suspended particulate, PM10, and airborne Pb (APb), typically ranged from 25.56 to 337.40 microg/m3 and 70.71 to 285.71 ng/m3, respectively. The average PM10 concentrations at different roadside microenvironments corresponding to urban residential, urban commercial, urban industrial and new town areas were 91.84, 129.08, 83.83, and 118.89 microg/m3 respectively. The corresponding values for APb were 130.01, 143.40, 127.40 and 173.17 ng/m3, respectively. It was found that measurement at EPD nearby rooftop monitoring stations might not reflect the actual roadside PM10 exposure. 采用HPLC对某烟酰胺生产废水的主要成分进行分析,并模拟废水中的主要成分烟酰胺(nicotinamide)的浓度,对以烟酰胺为唯一碳源配制的培养基进行降解实验,获得有较佳降解率和生长能力的菌株YSI-1和YSI-2。结果表明.YSI菌株的混合菌降解效果优于单株菌,混合菌在初始OD600值为0.4,pH为7.0时,对浓度为2000mg/L的烟酰胺降解2d的降解率可达32.8%。延长处理时间或提高菌种的初始OD600值,烟酰胺的去除率均有较大的增加。 相似文献
