Swimming trajectories of Calanus euxinus Hulsemann in the Black Sea were studied using an echosounder at 120 and 200 kHz. C. euxinus were acoustically discriminated with respect to vertical migration and swimming speed, according to dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration and the timing of migrations. Species became torpid in water with DO values <0.5 mg lу. The time spent swimming under DO conditions between 2 and 5 mg lу was insignificant, and varied greatly from the 10% to 25% of total time spent swimming under normoxic conditions (5-10 mg lу). C. euxinus formed a concentration layer in the water of 1-3 m thickness. Upward migration was completed in about 3.5 h, starting 2.5 h before and ending 1 h after sunset (average rate: 0.95 cm sу) in summer. Species ascended discretely from the suboxic to the lower boundry of the cold intermediate layer (CIL) at 0.82 cm sу, and passed up the CIL and thermocline fast (2.3 cm sу). Downward migration took less time (2 h), starting ~1 h before and ending ~1 h after sunrise. Swimming speed within the thermocline and CIL was 2.7 cm sу; copepods subsequently returned to daylight depth at a sinking speed of 0.57 cm sу. Total time for C. euxinus to settle to their nocturnal depth layer was about 5 h. 相似文献

The spatial distributions of gelatinous organism were studied during three cruises in 2006–2007. These were the first such
studies conducted in the southern Black Sea for last decade. Additionally, the different methods of estimating gelatinous
organism biomass presently in use were compared and recent situation of pelagic fishery interacting with zooplankton in the
Black Sea were overviewed. Biomasses and abundances of both invading Mnemiopsis leidyi, and the resident Aurelia aurita and Pleurobrachia pileus were remarkably reduced (total gelatinous biomass: 417–537 g m−2 in May, June, and 150 g m−2 in October) as compared with those before the 1997 with invasion Beroe ovata in the southern Black Sea. Specimens of B. ovata were detected only in October when individuals with lengths of 10–50 mm comprised 93% of its population. Length–weight based
biomasses were significantly variable for all species depending on the size structure in time. Larger sized individuals (>30 mm)
of M. leidyi appeared as compared with those before year 1997. The ecosystem of the Black Sea has been suppressed both bottom–up through
decreased eutrophication and top–down through reduced grazing on mesozooplankton by M. leidyi that are in turn controlled by grazing by B. ovata. The catch of anchovy was abruptly reduced to 120,000 tons due presumably to the considerably increased catch of its predator,

The distribution of Pleurobrachia pileus Müller, 1776 in the Black Sea was determined using plankton samples collected above the anoxic zone (maximum of 200 m) in
the winter, spring, and summer of 1991 to 1995. The summer samples were collected in 1991 to 1993 (for a previous) and are
included in this paper for comparative purposes. High concentrations of P. pileus were found at the northern edges of anticyclonic eddies along the southern coastal regions. The biomass and abundance of
P. pileus increased from winter through spring to a peak in summer. The highest mean wet weight during a sampling period was 250 g m−2, while the maximum wet weight was 1429 g m−2. P. pileus was mostly found in a layer extending from the lower parts of the thermocline down to the anoxic zone, where the temperature
was <8 °C. The vertical distribution of P. pileus biomass had two clear maxima at night: an upper maximum at 20 to 40 m was less pronounced than the lower maximum at 90 to
120 m depth. Mean body length of P. pileus did not exceed 12 mm. Smaller individuals (9 to 10 mm length) occurred in winter. P. pileus had two length classes in early spring (March 1995) and late summer (August 1993), indicating the presence of both newly
hatched and larger individuals. Overall, the stomach contents of P. pileus consisted mainly of Copepoda (90%), Cladocera (1%), Mollusca (1%), fish eggs and larvae (1%), and other taxa (7%). The preferred
food of P. pileus (frequency of occurrence) was: Calanus euxinus (39%), Pseudocalanus elongatus (30%), Acartia clausi (28%), Oithona similis (2%), and Paracalanus parvus (1%). The endoparasite Hysterothylacium aduncum was commonly found in P. pileus. Abundances of Mnemiopsis leidyi and P. pileus were either negatively correlated (r = −0.5 to −0.7) or positively correlated at a low significance level (r = 0.25 to 0.3) with abundance of A. clausi in different months of the year. Aurelia aurita abundance was correlated mainly with the abundance of C. euxinus from June 1991 to March/April 1995. Over the same period the abundance of P. pileus was significantly correlated with the abundance of P.
elongatus, an important prey species.

The distribution of moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita Linnaeus, 1758) in the Black Sea was determined from plankton samples collected above the anoxic zone (maximum depth 200 m)
in the summer, winter and spring during 1991–1995. Distribution was patchy. Average biomass ranged from 98 to 380 g m−2, and abundance varied from 2 to 14 individuals m−2. Biomass and abundance peaked in late spring and summer. The distribution was correlated with hydrographic features in the
Black Sea, with higher concentrations occurring at the peripheries of anticyclonic eddies. Centers of the two main cyclonic
gyres generally had a low biomass of A. aurita. From July 1992 to March 1995, the populations were largely concentrated in offshore regions. A. aurita were confined to the upper part of the mixed layer. Smaller A. aurita (≤1 cm) were present in early spring (March), and individuals reached maximum size in the summer. Release of the epyhrae
occurred in spring on the northwestern shelf of the sea when the seawater temperature was 11–12 °C. Microscopic analysis of
stomach contents showed that copepods and mollusks form their main diet.

There is a need for a robust and accurate technique to measure ammonia (NH3) emissions from animal feeding operations (AFOs) to obtain emission inventories and to develop abatement strategies. Two consecutive seasonal studies were conducted to measure NH3 emissions from an open-lot dairy in central Texas in July and December of 2005. Data including NH3 concentrations were collected and NH3 emission fluxes (EFls), emission rates (ERs), and emission factors (EFs) were calculated for the open-lot dairy. A protocol using flux chambers (FCs) was used to determine these NH3 emissions from the open-lot dairy. NH3 concentration measurements were made using chemiluminescence-based analyzers. The ground-level area sources (GLAS) including open lots (cows on earthen corrals), separated solids, primary and secondary lagoons, and milking parlors were sampled to estimate NH3 emissions. The seasonal NH3 EFs were 11.6 +/- 7.1 kg-NH3 yr(-1)head(-1) for the summer and 6.2 +/- 3.7 kg-NH3 yr(-1)head(-1) for the winter season. The estimated annual NH3 EF was 9.4 +/- 5.7 kg-NH3 yr(-1)head(-1) for this open-lot dairy. The estimated NH3 EF for winter was nearly 47% lower than summer EF. Primary and secondary lagoons (approximately 37) and open-lot corrals (approximately 63%) in summer, and open-lot corrals (approximately 95%) in winter were the highest contributors to NH3 emissions for the open-lot dairy. These EF estimates using the FC protocol and real-time analyzer were lower than many previously reported EFs estimated based on nitrogen mass balance and nitrogen content in manure. The difference between the overall emissions from each season was due to ambient temperature variations and loading rates of manure on GLAS. There was spatial variation of NH3 emission from the open-lot earthen corrals due to variable animal density within feeding and shaded and dry divisions of the open lot. Mutagenicity analysis of water samples from Camalti Saltern, Turkey were investigated by applying Salmonella mutagenicity test. Plate incorporation assay was applied in the absence of metabolic activation. XAD 4 and XAD 16 columns were used for the fractionation of the water samples. The results obtained were negative in both TA 98 and TA 100. Although the number of revertants of XAD 16 extract in station B were higher than the revertants in the other stations for TA 98 strain when compared to the solvent control. However this was not significant to be considered as mutagenic. The results were discussed for the future analysis. 相似文献
