Rain water samples were collected to study the chemical composition of wet atmospheric precipitation (first event) over the
Lucknow city in the northern Indo-gangetic alluvial plains. The samples were collected in the month of July, 2005 from different
sites. The wet precipitation samples were analyzed for pH, EC, major ions (, Cl−, , , , F−, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, ) and heavy metals (As, Cd, Al, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Hg, Pb, Se, Sn, Ti, V, Zn). The pH values of wet precipitation
samples ranged between 6.5 and 8.7. The analysis of linear regression applied to the set of studied variables and computation
of neutralization factors showed that neutralization occurred in precipitation samples and Ca2+ had the maximum neutralization capacity. It was found that Cl−, , Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+ and K+ in the precipitation samples originated mainly from crustal/anthropogenic sources in the region. On an average Fe, and Al
accounted for >72% of the total concentration of trace metals in the wet precipitation samples followed by Zn (>10%). Enrichment
factors calculated for heavy metals over reference background level in seawater and Earth’s crust showed relatively higher
enrichment of Zn. The principal component analysis (PCA) identified the possible sources of ionic species and heavy metals

Residues dynamics of Endosulfan (525.00 g a.i. ha(-1)), Imidacloprid seed treatment (21 g a.i. kg(-1)), Lambdacyhalothrin (75.00 g a.i. ha(-1)) and Spiromesifen (225.00 g a.i. ha(-1)) in nectar and pollen of mustard, Brassica juncea (L.) Czern. grown in Himachal Pradesh (India) were determined through bioassay (using Drosophila melanogaster Meig. as test organism) and GC (Gas chromatographic) and HPLC (High performance liquid chromatographic) methods. In general chromatographic methods were more sensitive for the determination of above given pesticides compared to bioassay method. Average recoveries in nectar samples varied between 82.85 and 88.90% by bioassay and 91.20 and 93.55% by chromatographic techniques. In pollen samples, recoveries varied between 81.44 and 86.44% by bioassay and 88.50 and 91.30% by chromatographic methods. Imidacloprid residues were neither found in nectar nor in pollen samples at the time of sampling i.e. 50% of flowering. The order of average half life of residues was: Lambdacyhalothrin (12.45 h) < Spiromesifen (19.99 h) < Endosulfan (27.49 h) for nectar and Spiromesifen (9.69 h) < Lambdacyhalothrin (12.44 h) < Endosulfan (17.84 h) for pollen samples. It was found that Imidcloprid seed treatment was practically harmless to honey bees, whereas a waiting period of 5 days must be observed on crops sprayed with these chemicals during blooms to avoid any accidental hazards to honey bees. 相似文献

Road sides provide suitable conditions for the establishment and growth of non-native species. The phenomenon of non-native species spread through roads has further increased due to rapid anthropogenic developments. Here we intend to investigate the status of native and non-native species and how the species richness and diversity change in a perpendicular road transect across the three different road use types in the central highlands of India. Presence of 55 non-native species was recorded, of the total 71 species along the road sides. Non-native species richness significantly increased with increasing road use type. Although, the species diversity significantly decreased from road verges to the forest interior in all the road use types. Indicating the role of non-native propagule spread through the roads into the interior forest landscapes. The study gives a management implication, to restrict the non-native species spread from the road sides to the forest interior, irrespective of road use types. 相似文献

This study aims to estimate the emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitric oxide (NO) for coal combustion in thermal power plants in India using plant-specific emission factors during the period of 2001/02 to 2009/10. The mass emission factors have been theoretically calculated using the basic principles of combustion under representative prevailing operating conditions in the plants and fuel composition. The results show that from 2001/02 to 2009/10 period, total CO2 emissions have increased from 324 to 499 Mt/year; SO2 emissions have increased from 2,519 to 3,840 kt/year; and NO emissions have increased from 948 to 1,539 kt/year from the Indian coal-fired power plants. National average emissions per unit of electricity from the power plants do not show a noticeable improvement during this period. Emission efficiencies for new plants that use improved technology are found to be better than those of old plants. As per these estimates, the national average of CO2 emissions per unit of electricity varies between 0.91 and 0.95 kg/kWh while SO2 and NO emissions vary in the range of 6.9 to 7.3 and 2.8 to 2.9 g/kWh, respectively. Yamunagar plant in Haryana state showed the highest emission efficiencies with CO2 emissions as 0.58 kg/kWh, SO2 emissions as 3.87 g/kWh, and NO emissions as 1.78 g/kWh, while the Faridabad plant has the lowest emission efficiencies with CO2 emissions as 1.5 kg/kWh, SO2 emissions as 10.56 g/kWh, and NO emissions as 4.85 g/kWh. Continuous aerosol measurements were made at a regional background station (Mukteshwar) located in a rural Himalayan mountain terrain from December 2005 to December 2008 for a period of 3 years. The average concentrations of particulate matter less than or equal to 10 μm (PM10), particulate matter less than or equal to 2.5 μm (PM2.5) and black carbon (BC) are 46.0, 26.6 and 0.85 μg/m3 during the study period. Majority of the PM10 values lie below 100 μg/m3 while majority of the PM2.5 values lie below 30 μg/m3. It is further seen that during the monsoon months, especially July and August, the average values are comparatively low. It is also noted that the PM2.5/PM10 ratios between 0.50 and 0.75 have the maximum frequency distribution in the data set. Furthermore, the monthly mean ratio of BC to PM2.5 mass lies between 3.0 and 7.5 % during the study period. Though the average PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations during the study period are less than the respective Indian ambient air quality standards, however, they are still above the WHO guidelines and would have adverse health impacts. This shows that even in rural/background regions that are far away from major pollution sources or urban areas, the aerosol concentrations are significant and require long-term monitoring, source quantification and aerosol model simulations. 相似文献

Drinking water disinfection plays a critical role in protecting humans from waterborne pathogens. Ferrate(VI) (FeVIO4 2?) has also been proposed as a disinfectant. This is the first study investigating the bacterial microbiomes of ferrate(VI)-treated water compared to chlorinated water. Tested water was collected after sand filtration and before disinfection from a drinking water treatment plant at Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, China. A culture-independent method utilizing propidium monoazide was used with quantitative polymerase chain reaction and pyrosequencing of 16S rRNA genes to distinguish between the viable and nonviable bacterial populations. The operational taxonomic units and α-diversity indexes of the live bacterial phylotypes in the samples were determined. Viable bacteria remained in all samples following chlorination or ferrate treatment. However, the genera Vibrio, Salmonella, Shigella, Escherichia, Campylobacter, Yersinia, Plesiomonas, Legionella, and Helicobacter, which contain important human pathogens, were not present among the 25 dominant genera seen in these samples. The profiles of the bacteria remaining after treatment with either chlorine or ferrate differed. The ferrate-treated samples showed a reduced percent relative abundance of operational taxonomic units of the class Alphaproteobacteria within the total remaining viable bacteria. The genera Flavobacterium and Duganella were relatively resistant to treatment by either chlorine or ferrate(VI). At the highest doses of chlorine and ferrate(VI), the genus Sphingobium represented a greater percentage of live bacteria in the chlorinated sample than in the ferrate(VI)-treated sample. The results suggest that ferrate(VI) and chlorine could inactivate slightly different sets of bacteria and could have different mechanisms of bacterial inactivation. 相似文献

Fluoride (F) contamination is a global environmental problem, as there is no cure of fluorosis available yet. Prosopis juliflora is a leguminous perennial, phreatophyte tree, widely distributed in arid and semi-arid regions of world. It extensively grows in F endemic areas of Rajasthan (India) and has been known as a “green” solution to decontaminate cadmium, chromium and copper contaminated soils. This study aims to check the tolerance potential of P. juliflora to accumulate fluoride. For this work, P. juliflora seedlings were grown for 75 d on soilrite under five different concentrations of F viz., control, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg NaF kg−1. Organ-wise accumulation of F, bioaccumulation factor (BF), translocation factor (TF), growth ratio (GR) and F tolerance index (TI) were examined. Plant accumulated high amounts of F in roots. The organ-wise distribution showed an accumulation 4.41 mg kg−1dw, 12.97 mg kg−1dw and 16.75 mg kg−1dw F, in stem, leaves and roots respectively. The results indicated significant translocation of F from root into aerial parts. The bioaccumulation and translocation factor values (>1.0) showed high accumulation efficiency and tolerance of P. juliflora to F. It is concluded that P. juliflora is a suitable candidate for phytoremediation purpose and can be explored further for the decontamination of F polluted soils. 相似文献

The kinetics of the oxidation of sucralose, an emerging contaminant, and related monosaccharides and disaccharides by ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)) were studied as a function of pH (6.5-10.1) at 25°C. Reducing sugars (glucose, fructose, and maltose) reacted faster with Fe(VI) than did the non-reducing sugar sucrose or its chlorinated derivative, sucralose. Second-order rate constants of the reactions of Fe(VI) with sucralose and disaccharides decreased with an increase in pH. The pH dependence was modeled by considering the reactivity of species of Fe(VI), (HFeO(4)(-) and FeO(4)(2-)) with the studied substrates. Second-order rate constants for the reaction of Fe(VI) with monosaccharides displayed an unusual variation with pH and were explained by considering the involvement of hydroxide in catalyzing the ring opening of the cyclic form of the carbohydrate at increased pH. The rate constants for the reactions of carbohydrates with Fe(VI) were compared with those for other oxidant species used in water treatment and were briefly discussed. 相似文献
