Gaseous peroxides play important roles in atmospheric chemistry. To understand the pathways of the formation and removal of peroxides, atmospheric peroxide concentrations and their controlling factors were measured from 7:00 to 20:00 in September, October, and November 2013 at a heavily trafficked residential site in Beijing, China, with average concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and methyl hydroperoxide (MHP) at 0.55 ppb and 0.063 ppb, respectively. H2O2 concentrations were higher in the afternoon and lower in the morning and evening, while MHP concentrations did not exhibit a regular diurnal pattern. Both H2O2 and MHP concentrations increased at dusk in most cases. Both peroxides displayed monthly variations with higher concentrations in September. These results suggested that photochemical activity was the main controlling factor on variations of H2O2 concentrations during the measurement period. Increasing concentrations of volatile organic compounds emitted by motor vehicles were important contributors to H2O2 and MHP enrichment. High levels of H2O2 and MHP concentrations which occurred during the measurement period probably resulted from the transport of a polluted air mass with high water vapor content passing over the Bohai Bay, China. 相似文献

Helice tridens (De Haan) (Grapsidae) and Macrophthalmus japonicus (De Haan) (Ocypodidae) build separate burrows in reed marshes and muddy tidal flats, respectively, in the brackish-water estuaries of northeast Japan (38°11N, 141°48E). Habitat segregation between burrows of these two species was analysed by comparing the density of burrows of both species in their natural habitats, and on tidal flats subjected to various types of artificial treatment, in the summer of 1981 and 1982. Baskets, containing many stones, were placed on the ground in the reed marsh, tidal flat and creek and attracted many individuals of H. tridens, but not M. japonicus. When stones were placed on an area of tidal flat, H. tridens frequently formed burrows at the border between the stones and mud, suggesting that burrowing of H. tridens was related to the presence of solid substances lying on the ground, such as stones and shoots of the reed Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. In closed systems on the tidal flat and reed marsh, H. tridens and M. japonicus were able to construct burrows in both substrata regardless of high or low frequency. Moreover, it was recognized that H. tridens prevented the burrowing of M. japonicus in these closed systems. These results suggested that habitat segregation between H. tridens and M. japonicus burrows was caused primarily by an exclusive interaction between individuals of these two species. 相似文献

Hydroxylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OH-PAH) with less than four rings are frequently found in the environment, whereas the toxicities associated with these compounds remain unclear. In this study, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)–ligand binding activities of OH-PAH were investigated by using a recombinant yeast assay system. The majority of the OH-PAH tested showed AhR–ligand binding activities, especially, when the hydroxylated derivatives of naphthalene were incubated with recombinant yeast. The structure–activity relationship between AhR activity and molecular weight or the octanol–water partition coefficient value of OH-PAH displayed significant correlations. These findings indicate that the site and number of hydroxy-groups substituted on PAH skeleton apparently influenced the AhR – ligand binding activity in the recombinant yeast assay. 相似文献

Chemical sensitivity of the male daphnid, Daphnia magna, induced by exposure to juvenile hormone and its analogs 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
It was reported that males daphnid Daphnia magna that have been induced by methyl farnesoate exposure exhibit higher tolerance to chemical compounds such as potassium dichromate and pentachlorophenol than females. Male neonates are also known to be induced by exposure to juvenile hormone analogs, such as fenoxycarb and pyriproxyfen. If these analogs can be used to produce male progeny, the biological and physiological studies of daphnid male would be progressed since the effects of these analogs were several hundred times higher than that of methyl farnesoate. Therefore, in the present study, it was investigated that the chemical sensitivity of male neonates induced by exposure to juvenile hormone (methyl farnesoate) and its analogs. The minimum concentrations of methyl farnesoate, fenoxycarb and pyriproxyfen to induce 100% male-reproduction were 200nM (50microg/l), 0.23nM (70ng/l) and 0.31nM (100ng/l), respectively. In addition, no reduction of relative reproduction was observed at the juvenoid concentrations in 24h exposure producing 100% male progeny. The median effective concentrations (EC50) of potassium dichromate for immobility of male neonates, established by a standardized method for investigating sensitivity to chemicals, were significantly higher (12-29%) than that of females at least after 24h exposure in all the male neonates induced by juvenoids used in this study (P<0.05). This study demonstrated that the male daphnids induced by exposure to juvenile hormone and its analogs exhibit similar chemical tolerance. 相似文献

Recently, local governments have an increasing need to take extensive and effective local measures to adapt to regional climate change, but have difficulty knowing how and when to adapt to such change. This study aims: 1) to characterize an efficient and cost-effective database management tool (DMT) for developing a Geographic Information System (GIS) based approach to using observed and projected data, for decision-making by non-expert government authorities, and 2) to document how DMT can be used to provide specialized yet understandable climate change information to assist local decision-makers in clarifying regional priorities within a wide array of adaptation options. The DMT combines climate change mapping, statistical GIS, and a vulnerability assessment. Okutama-machi, a 225.63 km2 sparsely populated mountainous region (2012 population 5,856) northwest of Tokyo, Japan, was chosen for this pilot study. In this paper, the most recent regional climate projections (5 km resolution) are transcribed into an understandable form for use by non-expert citizens who use the GIS-based DMT. Results illustrate qualitative agreement in projection of summer daily mean temperatures; the mean temperature increase at Okutama-machi is the greatest of any area in Tokyo. In comparing near future and future conditions, August monthly mean temperature will increase more than 0.7–0.9 °C and 2.8–2.9 °C, and monthly precipitation by 50 % and 25–41 %, respectively. However, the root mean square (RMS) errors and bias of percentage change for monthly precipitation in summertime are 26.8 % and 4.3 %, respectively. Dioxins can be transferred from mother to fetus via the placenta, or to nursing infants via breast milk, potentially causing developmental health problems in children. To assess pediatric health risks from dioxins, exposure of mothers and children to dioxins must be clarified. Methods of reducing maternal transfer of dioxins should also be investigated. Concentrations of 28 dioxin (polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins, polychlorinated dibenzofurans, and co-planar polychlorinated biphenyls) congeners in blood, adipose tissue, breast milk, cord blood and placenta collected from 44 pregnant Japanese women were measured. In addition, to investigate potential reductions in maternal transfer of dioxins, 23 pregnant women were instructed to take Chlorella pyrenoidosa supplements during pregnancy. Correlations were observed between dioxin total toxic equivalents (total TEQ) in blood and total TEQ in adipose tissue (r=0.913, P<0.0001), breast milk (r=0.695, P=0.0007), and cord blood (r=0.759, P<0.0001). Dioxin levels transferred to fetuses and nursing infants reflect cumulative maternal concentrations of dioxins. A linear regression equation was introduced to predict total TEQ in breast milk and cord blood from dioxin levels in maternal blood, which should prove useful in evaluating fetal and infant risk of dioxin exposure. Total TEQ in cord blood were approximately 26% lower than in maternal blood (P<0.0001). The results of this study suggest that transplacental transfer differs depending on the dioxin congener. Total TEQ in breast milk were approximately 30% lower in the Chlorella group than in controls (P=0.0113). This finding suggests that maternal transfer of dioxins can be reduced using dietary measures such as Chlorella supplements. 相似文献

In 1986 and 1987, a study on factors governing revegetation on ski grounds was conducted at Teine ski ground (built in 1971)
located near the city of Sapporo in northern Japan. Soil movement, slope gradient, distance from forest edge, vegetation cover,
and number of species on the ski ground were examined. Although artificial sowing of exotic plants was undertaken in the whole
ground surface at the time of opening, bare land occurred in ca. 50% of surveyed plots and the ski ground was mostly covered
with native plants. The number of species was positively correlated to vegetation cover, which was low in the sites where
intensive soil erosions occurred in winter. A principal component analysis of plant species distinguished three major groups
of factors, i.e., vegetation cover (first axis, contribution rate 30.3%), soil erosion in winter and slope gradient (second,
23.1%), and distance from forest edge (third, 16.3%). The vegetation characteristics on the ski ground were not determined
by a single environmental gradient but by the combination of factors described above. In particular, soil movements, which
are mostly derived from snowmelt, are considered to be the initiator of vegetation changes. 相似文献

Across a spectrum of contemporary contexts from public health to landscape ecology and natural resources, there is need for
objective determination of elevated occurrence in phenomena such as disease incidence and biodiversity. Occurrences of such
phenomena constitute response surfaces, but data regarding the surface is typically acquired in a cellular framework. The
cells may comprise a regular grid, or may be of irregular shapes such as counties in which statistics are collected. Echelons
are a topologically based approach to systematic determination of spatial structure in a step surface. Spatial scan statistics
are a probability-based approach to the same issue when interest lies in a rate variable. Here we examine the use of echelons
both separately and in conjunction with the SaTScan implementation of spatial scan statistics for purposes of determination
and visualization of upper-level sets. Consideration is given to both conventional geographic space and to the cellular pseudo-space
of contingency tables for ordered categorical variables.

Spatial and temporal variations of benthic fauna over a wide region (>1,000 km) that includes complex ocean currents have
seldom been quantitatively studied. The present study revealed malacofaunal variations on Japanese rocky shores affected by
the Soya, Tsushima, Oyashio, and Kuroshio currents, and in the Inland Sea. On 29 shores in seven regions in these sea areas,
previous researchers have recorded the number of molluscs in quadrats in spring and summer of 1978 and 1984–1986. Reanalyses
of these records revealed the following patterns. (1) Shore-to-shore variation in malacofauna was correlated with shore-to-shore
geographical distance less clearly for more southern regions. This might show that in southern regions many taxa with low
relative abundance are haphazardly recorded on some shores and blur the effect of shore-to-shore distance on malacofaunal
dissimilarity. (2) Region-to-region variation in malacofauna was significantly correlated with region-to-region geographical
distance. This suggests the influences of environments and paleontological events specific to each current surrounding each
region. (3) The pattern of dissimilarity between the Inland Sea and the other sea areas greatly changed from the 1970s to
1980s. This was due in part to the following density fluctuations on some shores in the Inland Sea: increases in the non-indigenous
mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis, cultured oyster Crassostrea gigas, and littorinid Littorina brevicula reportedly abundant in sheltered areas; and decreases in the littorinid Nodilittorina radiata reportedly abundant in exposed areas and muricid gastropods Thais spp. showing imposex. This suggests an increase of anthropogenic perturbations during the study period in the Inland Sea
which is surrounded by large cities and ports.

Metabolites of methoxychlor such as 2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(p-methoxyphenyl)-1,1,1-trichloroethane (mono-OH-MXC) and 2,2-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-1,1,1-trichloroethane (bis-OH-MXC), have estrogenic activity. Mono-OH-MXC is a chiral compound in which the carbon atom bridging two benzene rings is the chiral centre. In previous studies the estrogenic activity of racemic mono-OH-MXC has been measured, and the activity of each enantiomer of this compound has not yet been elucidated. In this study, we evaluated the estrogen receptor-binding activity of each enantiomer of mono-OH-MXC to clarify the enantioselective recognition by the estrogen receptor. (S)-mono-OH-MXC showed 3-fold higher binding activity than that of the (R) enantiomer. The activity of bis-OH-MXC was only 1.7-fold higher than that of (S)-mono-OH-MXC. This result suggests that the one hydroxy group and the orientation of the CCl3 group of mono- and bis-OH-MXCs are important for the interaction with the estrogen receptor. The result also points out the estrogenic activity of methoxychlor after metabolic activation in vivo, which predominantly produces the (S)-mono-OH-MXC, may be higher than estimated from the in vitro activity of racemic mixtures. 相似文献
