A new series of 1, 3-Benzoxazines were synthesized, characterized (1H NMR and 13C NMR) and evaluated for their pesticidal activity. Six new 3-alkyl-3, 4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1, 3-benzoxazines (1-6) were prepared by hydroxymethylation of secondary amines with formaldehyde in 65–68% yields. These compounds were screened for there IGR activity against Spodoptera litura and for antifungal fungal activity in vitro against Sclerotium rolfsii ITCC 6181 by poisoned food technique. Insect Growth Regulatory (IGR) activity against Spodoptera litura showed that compound 3-Nonyl-3,4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines was most effective as IGR with larval GI50 of 1.863 μ g/Insect. Compounds 3-Octyl-3,4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines and 3-Decyl-3,4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines were effective IGRs. Antifungal screening revealed that compound 3-Dodecyl-3, 4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines, was highly effective against Sclerotium rolfsii with LC50 value 31.7 mg L?1 comparable with commercial fungicide Hexaconazole (LC50 1.27 mg L?1). Also compounds 3-Nonyl-3, 4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines and 3-Decyl-3,4-dihydro-4-methyl-2H-1,3-benzoxazines displayed promising fungitoxicity. Dimethyl 4,4′ -(O-phenylene)bis(3-thioallophanate), commonly known as methyl thiophanate (MT), is a systemic fungicide and suspected carcinogen to humans. In this study, the oxidative potential of this category-III acute toxicant has been ascertained based on its capacity of inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and promutagenic 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2′ -deoxyguanosine (8-oxodG) adducts in DNA. The discernible MT dose-dependent reduction in fluorescence intensity of a cationic dye rhodamine (Rh-123) in human lymphocytes and increased fluorescence intensity of 2′,7′-Dichlorodihydro fluorescein diacetate (DCFH-DA) treated cells signifies decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (Δ Ψ m) due to intracellular ROS generation. The 32P-post-labeling assay demonstrated the MT-induced 8-oxodG adduct formation in calf thymus DNA. Thus, it is concluded that MT, as a potent oxidative stressor, produces ROS leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative DNA damage and mutagenesis. 相似文献

Lichens and cryoconite (rounded or granular, brownish-black debris occurring in holes on the glacier surface) from Ny-Ålesund were used for understanding the elemental deposition pattern in the area. Lichen samples collected from low-lying coastal region and cryoconite samples from high altitudinal glacier area were processed and analysed for elements such as aluminium (Al), arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), cesium (Cs), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb), vanadium (V) and zinc (Zn) through inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Results showed that heavy metals, Al and Fe, are present in high concentration in the cryoconite samples. Al was also present in high amounts in seven of the eight lichen samples studied. The general scheme of elements in the decreasing order of their concentrations for most of the cryoconite samples was Al?>?Fe?>?Mn?>?Zn?>?V?>?Pb?>?Cr?>?Ni?>?Cu?>?Co?>?As?>?Cs?>?Cd while that for the lichen samples was Al?>?Fe?>?Zn?>?Mn?>?Pb?>?Cu?>?Cs?>?Cr?>?Ni?>?V?>?Co?>?As?>?Cd. Similarity in trends in the two sample types confirms that the environment indeed contains these elements in that order of concentration which overtime got accumulated in the samples. Overall comparison showed most elements to be present in high concentrations in the cryoconite samples as compared to the lichen samples. Within the lichens, elemental accumulation data suggests that the low-lying site (L-2) from where Cladonia mediterranea sample was collected was the most polluted accumulating a number of elements at high concentrations. The probable reasons for such deposition patterns in the region could be natural (crustal contribution and sea salt spray) and anthropogenic (local and long-distance transmission of dust particles). In the future, this data can form a baseline for monitoring quantum of atmospheric heavy metal deposition in lichens and cryoconite of Svalbard, Arctic. 相似文献

Total concentration of heavy metals(Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Pb, Ni, Mn and Zn) was estimated in the redeveloping soil of mine spoil under 5-yr old plantations of four woody species namely: Albizia lebbeck, Albizia procera, Tectona grandis and Dendrocalamus strictus.The data recorded in the present study were compared with other unplanted coal mine spoil colliery, which was around to the study site and adjoining area of dry tropical forest. Among all the heavy metals, the maximum concentration was found for Fe and minimum for Cd.However, among all four species, total concentrations of these heavy metals were recorded maximally in the plantation plots of T. grandis except for Fe, while minimally in A. lebbeck except for Zn, whereas, the maximum concentration of Fe and Zn was in the plantation plots of D. strictus and A. procera. Statistical analysis revealed significant differences due to species for all the heavy metals except Cu.Among four species, A. lebbeck, A. procera and D. strictus showed more efficient for reducing heavy metal concentrations whereas T. grandis was not more effective to reduce heavy metal concentrations in redeveloping soil of mine spoil. 相似文献

The biomethanation of organic matter represents a long-standing, well-established technology. Although at mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures the process is well understood, current knowledge on psychrophilic biomethanation is somewhat scarce. Methanogenesis is particularly sensitive to temperature, which not only affects the activity and structure of the microbial community, but also results in a change in the degradation pathway of organic matter. There is evidence of psychrophilic methanogenesis in natural environments, and a number of methanogenic archaea have been isolated with optimum growth temperatures of 15–25 °C. At psychrophilic temperatures, large amounts of heat are needed to operate reactors, thus resulting in a marginal or negative overall energy yield. Biomethanation at ambient temperature can alleviate this requirement, but for stable biogas production, a microbial consortium adapted to low temperatures or a psychrophilic consortium is required. Single-step or two-step high rate anaerobic reactors [expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) and up flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB)] have been used for the treatment of low strength wastewater. Simplified versions of these reactors, such as anaerobic sequencing batch reactors (ASBR) and anaerobic migrating blanket reactor (AMBR) have also been developed with the aim of reducing volume and cost. This technology has been further simplified and extended for the disposal of night soil in high altitude, low temperature areas of the Himalayas, where the hilly terrain, non-availability of conventional energy, harsh climate and space constraints limit the application of complicated reactors. Biomethanation at psychrophilic temperatures and the contribution made to night-soil degradation in the Himalayas are reviewed in this article. 相似文献

Recognizing the importance of sacred groves in biodiversity conservation and management, and the recent threats to them, the
present study was conducted in Shivbari sacred grove of Himachal Pradesh. The study aimed at documenting the floral wealth
of Shivbari and promoting plantation of indigenous species in participation with local people. For this, systematic field
surveys in different seasons were conducted in Shivbari from April 2005 to November 2009, and liaison was maintained with
the local community and temple management authority for gaining insight into the history and problems of Shivbari and initiating
plantation activities. A total of 69 flowering plant species were identified inside the grove, which include 14 trees, 9 shrubs,
3 lianas and 43 herbs. This represents almost 2% of the total flowering plant species occurring in the state of Himachal Pradesh.
Mallotus philippensis followed by Putranjiva roxburghii was the most dominant tree species. Adhatoda
zeylanica was the most common shrub species, while Achyranthes aspera was the most common herb species. The grove harbours 23 plants species that are in high demand in the market, and at the
same time also influences the microclimate of the area. The temperature inside the grove was significantly lower than the
temperature outside the grove. The recent changes in socio-economic status of the local people and a shift towards market-oriented
economy have threatened the survival of Shivbari. However, the deeply held beliefs of the pilgrims, local people and priest
offer a ray of hope. During the course of the study, 3,000 plants were planted inside the grove out of which 60% have survived. 相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate physico-chemical properties, fertilizing potential and heavy metal polluting potentials of municipal solid waste composts produced in 29 cities of the country. Results indicated that except a very few samples, all other samples have normal pH and EC. Organic matter as well as major nutrients N and P contents in MSW composts are generally low as compared to the composts prepared from rural wastes. Heavy metal contents in composts from bigger cities (>1 million population) were higher by about 86% for Zn, 155% for Cu, 194% for Cd, 105% for Pb, 43% for Ni and 132% for Cr as compared to those from smaller cities (<1 million population). Composts prepared from source separated biogenos wastes contained, on average, higher organic matter (by 57%), total N (by 77%) and total P (by 78%), but lower concentrations of heavy metals Zn (by 63%), Cu (by 78%), Cd (by 64%), Pb (by 84%), Ni (by 50%), and Cr (by 63%) as compared to those prepared from mixed wastes. Partial segregation at the site of composting did not improve quality of compost significantly in terms of fertilizing parameters and heavy metal contents. Majority of MSW composts did not conform to the quality control guideline of ‘The Fertilizer (Control) Order 1985’ in respect of total organic C, total P, total K as well as heavy metals Cu, Pb and Cr. In order to enable the relevant stakeholders to judge overall quality, a scheme has been proposed for the categorization of composts into different marketable classes (A, B, C, and D) and restricted use classes (RU-1, RU-2, and RU-3) on the basis their fertilizing potential and as well as potential for contaminating soil and food chain. Under the scheme, ‘Fertilizing index’ was calculated from the values of total organic C, N, P, K, C/N ratio and stability parameter, and ‘Clean index’ was calculated from the contents of heavy metals, taking the relative importance of each of the parameters into consideration. As per the scheme, majority of the compost samples did not belong to any classes and hence, have been found unsuitable for any kind of use. Excessive use of pesticides in agriculture has led to several problems pertaining to loss of soil fertility and environmental degradation. Biological control agents offer the best alternative to reduce use of toxic pesticides. Paenibacillus sp. D1 isolated from the effluent treatment plant of a seafood processing industry exhibited broad spectrum tolerance towards a number of pesticides at concentrations higher than recommended for field applications. The isolate showed enhanced growth and chitinase production in the presence of some protectant fungicides. None of the tested demethylase inhibitor (DMI) fungicides inhibited growth and chitinase production except triadimefon. The isolate was also tolerant to most commonly used insecticides belonging to the organophosphate, carbamate and cyclodiene organochloride classes. Chitinase of Paenibacillus sp. D1 was found to be more tolerant than the organism itself and was highly stable in the presence of pesticides at the temperature under field conditions in Gujarat, India, i.e. 40 °C. This was suggestive of its potential in integrated pest management (IPM) to significantly reduce the use of harmful chemicals.
