Plastic pellets of polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS) were gasified in a two-stage thermal degradation
process. The first stage is the conversion of polyolefins to distilled oils using a melting vessel. In the second stage, the
oils from the first stage are gasified using a tubular reactor. The distilled oil yields of PE, PP, and PS in the first stage
were 84, 89, 92 wt%, respectively, each at 470°C. The total gas yields of PE, PP, and PS in the second stage were 80, 74,
and 6.2 wt%, respectively, each at 800°C. The main components of the product gas for PE and PP were methane and olefins such
as ethene and propene. Some aromatic oils, including benzene, toluene, and xylene, were also produced as by-products. The
amount of carbonaceous residue, or coke, was very low (less than 1 wt%). By dividing the process into two stages, the coking
rate was considerably reduced compared with direct gasification of the polyolefins.

The top-down mechanism for body-mass-abundance scaling 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Scaling relationships between mean body masses and abundances of species in multitrophic communities continue to be a subject of intense research and debate. The top-down mechanism explored in this paper explains the frequently observed inverse linear relationship between body mass and abundance (i.e., constant biomass) in terms of a balancing of resource biomasses by behaviorally and evolutionarily adapting foragers, and the evolutionary response of resources to this foraging pressure. The mechanism is tested using an allometric, multitrophic community model with a complex food web structure. It is a statistical model describing the evolutionary and population dynamics of tens to hundreds of species in a uniform way. Particularities of the model are the detailed representation of the evolution and interaction of trophic traits to reproduce topological food web patterns, prey switching behavior modeled after experimental observations, and the evolutionary adaptation of attack rates. Model structure and design are discussed. For model states comparable to natural communities, we find that (1) the body-mass abundance scaling does not depend on the allometric scaling exponent of physiological rates in the form expected from the energetic equivalence rule or other bottom-up theories; (2) the scaling exponent of abundance as a function of body mass is approximately -1, independent of the allometric exponent for physiological rates assumed; (3) removal of top-down control destroys this pattern, and energetic equivalence is recovered. We conclude that the top-down mechanism is active in the model, and that it is a viable alternative to bottom-up mechanisms for controlling body-mass-abundance relations in natural communities. 相似文献

To examine the potential trophic competition between myctophids and small epipelagic fishes in the nursery grounds in spring,
we compared the stomach contents of dominant myctophids (Symbolophorus californiensis, Ceratoscopelus warmingii and Myctophum asperum; n = 179) and juvenile epipelagic fishes (Japanese sardine, Sardinops melanostictus, Japanese anchovy, Engraulis japonicus, chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus, and spotted mackerel, S. australasicus; n = 78) that were simultaneously collected at nighttime with a midwater trawl net around the Kuroshio-Oyashio transition zone
in the western North Pacific. It was clear that the neritic copepod Paracalanus parvus s.l. was the most abundant species in NORPAC samples (0.335 mm mesh size) taken at the same stations. Diets of dominant myctophid
fishes differed from those of the juvenile epipelagic fishes; Japanese sardine and anchovy mostly preyed upon P. parvus s.l. (23.6% of stomach contents in volume) and Corycaeus affinis (16.1%), respectively. Both chub and spotted mackerels mainly preyed upon the seasonal vertical migrant copepod, Neocalanus cristatus (15.9 and 14.7%, respectively). On the contrary, myctophid fishes probably do not specifically select the abundant neritic
copepods. Namely, S. californiensis mostly preyed upon a diel vertical migrating copepod, Pleuromamma piseki (22.7 and 30.6% in stomach of juvenile and adult, respectively), while C. warmingii and M. asperum preyed on Doliolida (43.0% in stomach of juvenile C. warmingii), appendicularians (11.0% in stomach of juvenile M. asperum), and Ostracoda (6.3% in stomach of adult C. warmingii). Feeding habits of myctophid fishes seem adapted to their prey animals; low rate of digested material (less than 30% in
volume) in stomachs of S. californiensis may be linked to the movement of P. piseki, hence S. californiensis can easily consume this copepod at night since they are more concentrated at night than daytime. High rate of digested material
(over 40%) of M. asperum and adult C. warmingii suggest that they feed not only at night but also during the daytime in the midwater layer. Thus, myctophid fishes actually
fed in the surface layer but less actively than the small epipelagic fishes. These results suggest that the potential for
direct food competition between myctophids and small epipelagic fishes is low in the nursery ground, but there remains a possibility
of indirect effects through their prey items, since the above gelatinous animals feed on common prey items as juveniles of
Japanese sardine and anchovy. 相似文献

Photocatalytic oxidation of arsenite and simultaneous removal of the generated arsenate from aqueous solution were investigated. The whole process was performed using an adsorbent developed by loading iron oxide and TiO2 on municipal solid waste melted slag. The loading was carried out through chemical reactions and high-temperature process. In the removal process, arsenite was first oxidized to arsenate, and then was removed by adsorption. The oxidation of arsenite was rapid, but the adsorption of the generated arsenate was slow. A concentration of 100 mg l(-1) arsenite could be entirely oxidized to arsenate within 3 h in the presence of the adsorbent and under UV-light irradiation, but the equilibrium adsorption of the generated arsenate needed 10 h. Arsenite could also be oxidized to arsenate only by UV-light, but the reaction rate was approximately 1/3 of that of the photocatalyzed reaction. Both acidic and alkaline conditions were favorable for the oxidation reaction, and the optimum pH value for the oxidation and adsorption was proposed to be around 3. To oxidize and remove original 20 mg l(-1) or 50 mg l(-1) arsenite from aqueous solution, the necessary adsorbent amount was 2 g l(-1) or 5 g l(-1), respectively. Furthermore, the surface properties of the adsorbent were examined and the oxidation mechanism of arsenite was discussed. It is believed that the adsorbent developed in this study is efficient, cost-effective and environment-friendly for application in arsenic-contaminated wastewater treatment. 相似文献

The acute toxicity of arsenobetaine was studied in male mice. No deaths were observed with oral administration of 10 g/kg of arsenobetaine. Therefore the LD50 value was higher than 10 g/kg. This compound was found in urine in the non-metabolized form. No particular toxic symptoms were observed following administration. These results suggest that arsenobetaine has low toxicity and is not metabolized in mice. 相似文献

Male adult butterflies of many species have characteristic odors originating from the disseminating organs known as androconia. Despite the fact that androconia exist in several species, there have been few investigations on adult scents from the lycaenid species. Celastrina argiolus ladonides (Lycaenidae) is a common species in Eurasia. We have reported that male adults of this species emit a faint odor, and the major components causing this odor have been newly found in the Insecta. By using field-caught individuals, we determined the chemical nature and location of this odor in the butterfly. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analyses revealed that two lactone compounds, lavender lactone and δ-decalactone, are present in the extracts of males but absent in those of the females. On an average, approximately 50 ng of each compound was found per male. Chiral GC analyses performed using enantiomerically pure standards revealed that the natural lavender lactone was a mixture of two enantiomers with an R/S ratio of 32:68, whereas the natural δ-decalactone contained only the R-enantiomer. When the analyses were conducted using different parts—forewings, hindwings, and body—of three males, the lactones were more abundantly found on the forewings and hindwings than on the body. Microscopic observation of the wings demonstrated that battledore scales known as androconia are scattered on the upper surface of both the wings of C. argiolus ladonides males. These results indicate that the specialized scales on the wings of males serve as scent-disseminating organs. 相似文献
