Correlations between flash points and vapor pressures at 25 °C for pure organic compounds were investigated. It was found that classification of organic compounds according to their chemical-structural characteristics (e.g., functional groups) was necessary for the correlation study. Under this classification, linearity seems to be the most appropriate correlation to explain the relationship between the inverse of flash points (°K) and the logarithm of vapor pressures (mm Hg) at 25°C for pure organic compounds. A test study to evaluate the validity of a regression line as an estimation of an unknown flash point from a known vapor pressure was carried out with a data set containing 31 alkanes and aromatics; 55% of the flash points were predicted within ±5°Cand89% were within ±10°C. The distribution of methyl chloroform was determined (MCF), trichloroethylene (TRI) and tetrachloroethylene (PCE) in milk, tissues and expired air by intraruminally administering 0.625 ml kg(-0.75) of an equal-volume mixture of the three compounds to lactating goats. The milk secreted during 24 h after the intraruminal administration contained 1.42 mg of MCF, 1.87 mg of TRI, 6.43 mg of PCE and 0.33 mg of trichloroethanol (TCE). MCF, TRI and PCE appeared in the blood less than 30 min after administration. Oral administration of these chemicals to milk-fed kids showed that at 3.5 h post-administration, the liver contained these chemicals in greatest abundance. The adaptation of milk-fed kids to 3 weeks administration of small amounts of propylene glycol stimulated the metabolic conversion of TRI to TCE. There were linear relationships between the blood concentrations of these chemicals and the expiration rates after oral administration of 0.4 ml kg(-1) of each chemical to milk-fed kids. The expiration rates of MCF, TRI and PCE were 605, 122 and 46 microg min(-1) kg(-1) at 2 microg ml(-1) blood concentrations of MCF, TRI and PCE, respectively. These results suggested that MCF is little metabolized, being most readily exhaled in expired air, while PCE demonstrates the greatest tissue-partitioning, being largely secreted into the milk or retained in the liver. Achievements of the research project entitled "Establishment of a scientific framework for the management of toxicity of chemicals based on environmental risk-benefit analysis" supported by the JST were introduced and reviewed, focusing on the development of the methodology for estimating risks; human health risks and ecological risks. The usefulness of loss of life expectancy as a metric for evaluating cancer and noncancer risks was demonstrated. To evaluate ecological risks, three metrics, 1/T, logT and T, developed based on the mean extinction time (T) of species were proposed. Then, their implication and feasibility were examined in terms of what ecological system should be conserved and how easily people can understand the implications of metrics. Electrochemical reduction with electrochemically generated naphthalene radical anion in N,N-dimethylformamide was applied to the dechlorination of five representative POPs, namely HCB, lindane, DDT, PCP and aldrin. Rapid and complete dechlorination was possible for lindane and DDT to give nearly quantitative yields of benzene and 1,1-diphenylethane, respectively. HCB was reduced through complex reaction pathways to yield unknown products. Dechlorination of PCP and aldrin beyond dichlorinated compounds was difficult because of their very negative reduction potential. Carbonaceous aerosols and PM10 were monitored from September 8 to November 30, 2002, in a semi-urban site (Tsinghua University) in Beijing. Daily concentrations of OC and EC ranged from 7.1 to 65.9 microgCm(-3) and from 1.3 to 26.1 microgCm(-3), with the overall average concentrations of 21.2 microgCm(-3) and 7.3 microgCm(-3), respectively. The diurnal variation of carbonaceous concentrations on 2 h basis presented two-peak trend, which was attributed to the cooperative effect of local meteorological conditions and anthropogenic sources such as traffic exhaust and human outdoor activities. Daily average OC/EC ratio varied between 1.5 and 5.3 with an average of 3.0. Strong correlation between OC and EC (R2=0.8) indicated that their main sources were common. The frequency of OC/EC ratio presented Gaussian normal distribution trend in fall, of which the peak value appeared in the range of 2.8-5. In winter, it presented bi-peak mode, with the first peak near 1.4-1.6, and the second between 2.8 and 5. The high value (2.8-5) implied the SOC formation in both seasons, and the low one probably suggested the primary OC/EC ratio from coal burning in winter. Averagely, PM10 and carbonaceous species exhibited higher concentrations in Wednesday than in other weekdays, which could be ascribed to the low wind speed (1.6 ms(-1)) and high humidity (62.9%). OC was the abundant component accounting for 76% of TC. OC and EC contributed 15% and 5% to PM10, respectively. The estimation on a minimum OC/EC ratio (1.5) basis showed that SOC accounted more than 50% for the total organic carbon. Influence of residual carbon on the decomposition process of PCDD/Fs in MSWI fly ash 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In heating treatment of fly ash to reduce PCDD/Fs, cooling process is important to inhibit de novo formation of PCDD/Fs. In this study, assuming that residual carbon is the dominant factor of de novo synthesis, the relation between PCDD/Fs and residual carbon was examined. Firstly, by using MSWI fly ash which was treated in an actually operated facility, both the content of PCDD/Fs and residual carbon were decreased as heating temperature increased. At temperatures higher than 400 degrees C, the reduction rate of residual carbon was higher than 20% and more than 95% of PCDD/Fs was decomposed. In order to simulate a heating treatment process, fly ash was heated at different temperatures and gas atmospheres, oxygen or nitrogen. Heated fly ash was placed for 2 h at 300 degrees C in oxygen to promote de novo synthesis, or cooled immediately. As a result, good correlation between PCDD/Fs and residual carbon was found, therefore it was shown experimentally that residual carbon was the main factor for PCDD/Fs formation by de novo synthesis in fly ash. 相似文献

Certain chemicals possess the potential to modulate endocrine systems, and thereby interfere with reproduction and developmental processes in the wild. We analyzed endocrine disrupters nonylphenol (NP) and bisphenol A (BPA) levels at various sites in Okinawa and Ishigaki Islands, Japan. River-water samples showed undetectable to low concentrations of NP and BPA at most of the sites investigated. However, an appreciable amount of BPA was detected in sediments at one coral reef site. In addition, significant numbers of river sediment samples showed appreciable amounts of NP and BPA. Most of the sampling sites for this study are located within a distance of 1 km from the coral reefs, which are under influence of river-waters to a variable extent. Therefore, influence of endocrine disrupters may have already begun on adjacent coral reefs. Both endocrine disrupters were positively correlated with human population densities, but not with the contents of red soil generated by farm land reformation. Therefore, it is concluded that NP and BPA pollution is a consequence of human waste discharge, both domestic and industrial, and not by agricultural activities. 相似文献

A differential equation was employed in modelling deforestation by human population interactions to yield an explicit mathematical model. The theoretical relation and many possible models were applied to the grid cell data in Hiroshima Prefecture, and relative appropriateness of each model was evaluated by Akaike's information criterion (AIC) using raw data. Certain enteric viruses that are present in the water environment are potential risk factors of waterborne infections. To better understand the impact of viruses in water, both enteric viruses and their potential indicators should be comparatively investigated. In this study, occurrences of GI- and GII-noroviruses (NoVs), sapovirus (SaV), rotavirus (RoV), Aichi virus 1 (AiV-1), enterovirus (EV), and pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) were quantitatively determined in surface water samples in Japan. Additionally, the genotype distribution of GI- and GII-NoVs was determined using a next-generation amplicon sequencing. PMMoV was the most abundant virus regardless of season and location, indicating its usefulness as an indicator for the viral contamination of water. Other potential indicators, AiV and EV, were less abundant than GII-NoV. Viruses other than PMMoV showed seasonality, i.e., EV and other viruses (NoVs, SaV, RoV, and AiV-1) became prevalent during summer and winter, respectively. SaV showed a relatively high abundance at a location that was affected by untreated wastewater. Regarding NoV genotypes, GI.1, GI.2, GI.4, GI.5, GI.6, GII.3, GII.4, GII.6, and GII.17 were found from the surface water samples. GII.4 and GII.17 seemed to have contributed to the high abundance of GII-NoV in the samples. Interestingly, GII.17 strains became prevalent in the water samples before becoming prevalent among gastroenteritis patients in Japan.
