The hazard presented to aquatic animals by technogenic waters from mining and ore processing works, with an abnormally high potassium content and alkaline pH, was studied in experiments with fish using the integrated biochemical index (IBI) allowing an aggregate estimation of changes in the animal organism. The results showed that the IBI value directly depends on the extent of technogenic pollution, as well as on the species and age of fish. 相似文献

Tissue concentrations and contents of copper and zinc were determined at 11 different stages of the moult cycle in male and female shore crabs Carcinus maenas. Metal concentrations in haemolymph, gills, midgut gland, muscle, and exoskeleton of males and haemolymph, gills, and midgut gland of females were determined, as were haemocyanin concentrations and haemolymph volumes (using 14C-inulin) in males. The changes in tissue Cu and Zn concentrations and contents that occur throughout the moult cycle can be attributed to muscle breakdown in late premoult, the period of starvation in late premoult and early postmoult, the resorption from and shedding of the old exoskeleton, and the dilution of the haemolymph caused by water uptake around the time of ecdysis. The present study demonstrates that whole-body Cu and Zn contents remain constant during a large part of the moult cycle of male and female C. maenas. This state of whole-body trace metal homeostasis is maintained in spite of major changes in tissue proportions and tissue Cu and Zn concentrations and contents. Previous studies have not carried out the necessary analysis to move from theoretical estimates to quantitative determination of the changes in tissue metal distribution associated with moulting in crustaceans; the data presented illustrate the necessity of measuring both tissue concentrations and contents of metals to avoid misinterpretation of either. 相似文献

The metabolism of Benzyl-U-14C-labeled Baythroid, a pyrethroid insecticide, performed in callus and suspension culture of tomatoes, cotton, apples, carrots, potatoes, peanuts, and wheat. The main part of the research was on tomato cell cultures. The main degradation products identified were glucose conjugates of 3-phenoxy-4-fluorobenzylalcohol, 3-phenoxy-4-fluorobenzoic acid and a more polar metabolite assumed to be a disaccharid conjugate of these compounds. Allogeneic interactions between Acropora hemprichi (Ehrenberg) colonies were followed in situ up to 18 mo between 1990 and 1992 in Eilat, Red Sea. We established all 21 possible branch pair combinations among seven large colonies in three to eight replicates each (n=92 pairs), in addition in 14 pairs of grafts within-colonies. All isografts resulted in fusion. Allogeneic interactions revealed a variety of effector mechanisms which involved the appearance of dark blue-purple color in the tissues of interacting branch tips (<1 cm), unilateral overgrowths (1.0 to 1.5 mm mo-1 for 1 to 8 mo), rejections, healings, continuous overgrowths, reversals, repeated rejections and more. Direction of overgrowth was usually specific to a given combination of colonies. A hierarchial network of overgrowths was obtained by analyzing overgrowth directions of all pairwise combinations, which included 30 transitive and five nontransitive three-way combinations. These outcomes, similarly to responses of allogeneic encounters recorded from other coral species, show that colonies can respond selectively to different types of allogeneic challenges.
