Effects of various environmental stresses such as heavy metals, salts and low (high) temperature on the secretion of peroxidase isozyme into the medium were examined in rice (Oryza sativa cv. Nak-Dong) suspension culture. The major extracellular peroxidases secreted into the medium by various stresses were cationic isoperoxidases. A far migrating cationic isoperoxidase RC3 was isolated from the medium after application of CaCl2, the effective stimulator for peroxidase secretion. Isolation of extracellular isoperoxidase RC3 was accomplished by ammonium sulfate fractionation, CM-cellulose cation-exchange chromatography, and Sephacryl S-100 gel filtration. The enzyme was a glycoprotein having molecular weight of approximately 34 KDa as determined by SDS-PAGE and 38 KDa by Sephacryl S-100 gel filtration. The pI value of the enzyme was 8.9. Kinetic studies revealed that the optimum pH of the enzyme was 6.0 for guaiacol and H2O2, and the Km values for guaiacol and H2O2 were 10.5 mM and 3.2 mM, respectively. 相似文献

Land management in urban areas is characterized by the diversity of its goals and its physical expression in the landscape,
as well as by the frequency and often rapidity of change. Deliberate or accidental landscape alterations lead to changes in
habitat, some of which may be viewed as environmentally beneficial, others as detrimental. Evaluating what is there and how
changes may fit into the landscape context is therefore essential if informed land-management decisions are to be made.
The method presented here uses a simple ecological evaluation technique, employing a restricted number of evaluation criteria,
to gather a spatially complete data set. A geographical information system (GIS) is then used to combine the resulting scores
into a habitat value index (HVI). Using examples from Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom, existing real-world data are then
applied to land-management scenarios to predict probable landscape ecological consequences of habitat alteration.
The method provides an ecologically relevant, spatially complete evaluation of a large, diverse area in a short period of
time. This means that contextual effects of land-management decisions can be quickly visualized and remedial or mitigating
measures incorporated at an early stage without the requirement for complex modeling and prior to the detailed ecological
survey. The strengths of the method lie in providing a detailed information baseline that evaluates all habitats, not just
the traditional “quality” habitats, in a manner that is accessible to all potential users—from interested individuals to professional

The bronchial dosimeter for Rn progeny proposed by Yu and Guan in 1998 was employed to survey the bronchial dose from Rn progeny in 30 residences in Hong Kong. An average bronchial deposition fraction of Rn progeny was obtained as 0.0334, which gave an average dose conversion factor (DCF) of 8.5 mSv WLM-1. The mean values of potential alpha energy concentration (PAEC) deposited in the tracheobronchial region (PAECT-B), total PAEC in air (PAECT), annual effective dose (E), concentration of Rn gas (RC) and annual dose conversion factor (ADCF) for all the residential sites combined were 0.11 +/- 0.05, 3.1 +/- 1.4 mWL, 1.2 +/- 0.5 mSv yr-1, 23 +/- 10 Bq m-3 and 0.055 +/- 0.020 (mSv yr-1 per Bqm-3), respectively, with air-conditioned sites (AC sites) and non-AC sites having significantly different mean ADCF values. A new fluorogenic substrate, 4 methylumbelliferylβ-D-6-sulphogalactoside, was used for the assay of galactose-6-sulphate sulphatase activity in chorionic villi, cultured villus cells, and amniocytes. The fluorometric assay is much more convenient than the conventional assay using radiolabelled, sulphated oligosaccharides. Both types of substrate were used in the prenatal diagnosis of three pregnancies at risk for Morquio type A disease using amniocytes. These enzyme tests, as well as electrophoresis of glycosaminoglycans in the amniotic fluid, indicated affected fetuses in two pregnancies and a non-affected fetus in one. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The impact of degraded water quality on the value of seasonal homes adjacent to St. Albans Bay on Lake Champaign in northern Vermont is estimated using hedonic price functions. The Value of properties located adjacent to the bay are depressed by about 20 percent, or $4,500 on average, compared with similar nearby properties on the larger but cleaner lake. The assemblage of solitary ascidians in rocky subtidal habitats of the San Juan Islands, Washington, USA, is dominated numerically by a few species of stolidobranchs: Pyura haustor, Halocynthia igaboja, Cnemidocarpa finmarkiensis and Boltenia villosa. Several phlebobranch species occur abundantly only on floating docks and/or muddy bottoms, where they co-occur with P. haustor and other stolidobranchs. These patterns of abundance correlate with feeding preferences and distributional patterns of the predatory snail Fusitriton oregonensis, which occurs only in rocky subtidal sites, prefers ascidians over other invertebrates as prey and prefers phlebobranchs over stolidobranchs. With the exception of B. villosa, stolidobranchs commonly co-occuring with the snail in the rocky subtidal are not eaten. Transplants of phlebobranchs from docks to rocky subtidal sites and transplants of F. oregonensis into established dock communities suggest that predation by the snail may largely explain the observed patterns of absolute and relative abundance. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The influence of perceptions of water quality on the likelihood of recreating at a particular recreation site is investigated using a logit model. The model is estimated for St. Albans Bay, Vermont. A hypothetical improvement in water quality was shown to greatly increase the probability of at least one visit to the bay during a season. This implies that many recreationists who do not use the bay at present will do so if water quality improves. A demand model for predicting site visitation must, therefore, include current nonusers in the sample. Failure to do so would result in misleading predictions about future demand for the bay. 相似文献

The main objective of this study is to develop an eco-friendly and a large recycling technique of flotation Tailings from korea (TK) from metal mines as construction materials such as admixtures for high-fluidity concrete (HFC). TK used in this study was obtained from the Korea Molybdenum Corporation in operation. TK was used as the alternative material to adjust flowability and viscosity of HFC in the form of powder agent which enables adjustment of concrete compressive strength. In this study, we have performed concrete rheological tests and concrete flowability tests to obtain the quality characteristics of TK for using as the admixture in producing HFC. The results indicated that the adequate mix ratio of cement to TK should be 8:2 (vol%). It is more effective to use the TK as admixture to control flowability, viscosity and strength of HFC than the normal concrete. It was found that TK could be recycled construction materials in bulk such as admixture for HFC, in terms of the economic and eco-friendly aspects. 相似文献

Source-separated collection system of household food waste has been implemented national wide in South Korea. Food waste recycling rate that means conversion rate to recycle is over 90 % in present. However, over the value of 90 %, we need to enhance the efficiency of food waste recycling process. We analyzed material flow of 24 food waste recycling facilities and calculated solid recovery rate to key-process. We found that 3–13 % of the solids from food waste outflows with foreign materials and 27–33 % of the solids outflow with wastewater. As a result, solid recovery rates are 65.3, 60.9, and 56.3 % in wet feed facility, dry feed facility, and composting facility, respectively. Alternative ways to recovery solid from wastewater or collection tools to exclude plastic bags, salt, and moisture content are required to make food waste recycling more efficient. 相似文献
