ABSTRACT: This study tests the hypothesis that climatic data can be used to develop a watershed model so that stream flow changes following forest harvest can be determined. Measured independent variables were precipitation, daily maximum and minimum temperature, and concurrent relative humidity. Computed variables were humidity deficit, saturated vapor pressure, and ambient vapor pressure. These climatic variables were combined to compute a monthly evaporation index. Finally, the evaporation index and monthly precipitation were regressed with measured monthly stream flow and the monthly estimates of stream flow were combined for the hydrologic year. A regression of predicted versus measured annual stream flow had a standard error of 1.5 inches (within 6.1 percent of the measured value). When 10, 15, and 20 years of data were used to develop the regression equations, predicted minus measured stream flow for the last 7 years of record (1972–1978) were within 16.8, 11.5, and 9.7 percent of the measured mean, respectively. Although single watershed calibration can be used in special conditions, the paired watershed approach is expected to remain the preferred method for determining the effects of forest management on the water resource. 相似文献

Oral administration of arsenic trioxide(3 and 6 mg/kg body weight/d) for 30 d caused, as compared with vehicle control, dose-dependent significant reductions in body weight, absolute weight, protein, glycogen, as well as, total, dehydro and reduced ascorbic acid contents both in the liver and kidney of arsenic-treated mice. Succinic dehydrogenase(SDH) and phosphorylase only in the liver activities were significantly reduced in a dose-dependent manner. Acid phosphatase activity was significantly decreased in the liver of low dose arsenic-treated animals;however, significant rise in its activity was observed in high dose group. As compared with vehicle control, treatment also caused significant dose-dependent reductions in SDH, alkaline phosphatase and acid phosphatase activities in the kidney of mice. Vitamin E cotreatment as well as, 30 d withdrawal of arsenic trioxide treatment with or without vitamin E caused significant amelioration in arsenic-induced toxicity in mice. Administration of vitamin E during withdrawal of treatment also caused significant amelioration as compared from only withdrawal of the treatment. It is concluded that vitamin E ameliorates arsenic-induced toxicities in the liver and kidney of mice. 相似文献

The condenser is a piece of equipment used to effectively transfer heat from water to the environment. The fin and tube condenser is the most commonly used in commercial applications. The improved performance of heat transfer in the fin and tube condenser is a significant area of study all over the world because optimizing the efficiency of heat transfer in the condenser will contribute to enhancing the effectiveness of system performance. The vapor deposition, plasma spray, and thermal spray techniques are being used, and it is determined that a heat transfer enhancing coating improves condenser performance. This review discusses the nanomaterial coating over the fin and tube condenser in detail. The various nanomaterial coatings with various propositions and coating methods had been discussed with the evidence of previous researchers. At a 50-degree inclination angle on the condensate plate, the condensate over the coating surface increases by more than 30%. The thermal properties of the working fluid are improved over the condenser, and the overall effectiveness of the condenser is increased by approximately 40% over the non-coated condenser. A 1% volumetric concentration of Nanoparticles in the coated material achieves a maximum efficiency increase of 78.7%. 相似文献

In this study, a novel magnetic Cr(VI) ion imprinted polymer (Cr(VI)-MIIP) was successfully synthesized and used as a selective sorbent for the adsorption of Cr(VI) ions from aqueous solution. It can be synthesized through the combination of an imprinting polymer and magnetic nanoparticles. The high selectivity achieved using MIIP is due to the specific recognition cavities for Cr(VI) ions created in Cr(VI)-MIIP. Also, the magnetic properties that could be obtained using magnetic nanoparticles, helps to separate adsorbent with an external magnetic field without either additional centrifugation or filtration procedures. The magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (MNPs) were synthesized using an improved co-precipitation method and modified with tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) before imprinting. The magnetic Cr(VI) ion imprinted polymer was prepared through precipitation copolymerization of 4-vinylpyridine as the complexing monomer, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate as a co-monomer, the Cr6+ anion as a template, and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a cross-linker in the presence of modified magnetite nanoparticles. This novel synthesized sorbent was characterized using different techniques. Batch adsorption experiments were performed to evaluate the adsorption conditions, selectivity, and reusability. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity was 39.3 mg g?1, which was observed at pH 3 and at 25?°C. The equilibrium time was 20 min, and the amount of adsorbent which gave the maximum adsorption capacity was 1.7 g L?1. Isotherm studies showed that the adsorption equilibrium data were fitted well with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model and the theoretical maximum adsorption capacity was 44.86 mg g?1. The selectivity studies indicated that the synthesized sorbent had a high single selectivity sorption for the Cr(VI) ions in the presence of competing ions. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption process was exothermic (\(\Delta H\)?<?0) and spontaneous (\(\Delta G\)?<?0). Benzene is a ubiquitous environmental pollutant with various health effects. It is reported that benzene exposure might be associated with insulin resistance in elderly adults. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between urinary benzene metabolite, trans, trans-muconic acid (t,t-ma) and markers of oxidative stress and insulin resistance in children and adolescents. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017 among 86 children and adolescents, aged 6–18 years, living in Isfahan, Iran. t,t-ma was measured as urinary benzene metabolite and homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-IR) was determined as an index of insulin resistance. Moreover, malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were assessed as oxidative stress markers. We found significant association between insulin resistance, fasting blood glucose, and fasting blood insulin with t,t-ma (p values?=?0.002, 0.03, and 0.001, respectively). Results of this study indicate that benzene metabolite in higher concentrations in comparison with lower concentrations is associated with increased risk of insulin resistance. Moreover, after adjustment for age, sex, and household passive smoking, statistically significant increase were documented in SOD and MDA (4.49- and 3.54-fold, respectively) in intermediate levels of t,t-ma vs. low levels of t,t-ma (p values?=?0.01 and 0.034, respectively). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in its kind in the pediatric age group. It showed that benzene exposures, even in environmental levels, might be associated with insulin resistance and oxidative stress in children and adolescents.
