Sizing and verification of pressure relieving systems is an important topic in the design of process plants in order to assure equipments and people protection against malfunctions and hazards. The calculation of the critical flow (choke) condition is analysed with respect to existing standard calculations procedures (API and Omega methods) that implement approximate procedures and may not be extended to temperature/pressure regions near the thermodynamic critical point. These procedures may be replaced by a more rigorous calculation based on the evaluation of the local sonic velocity with equations of state. The method applies to systems composed of pure chemical components as well as to multi-component mixtures existing in the single phase and multi-phase regions. As a consequence of an exact calculation of the critical flow conditions, more accurate values of the discharged flowrate may be obtained. Comparisons with calculations performed using the standard API RP 520 procedure and Omega method are presented.  相似文献

Living veligers of the Cassoidea have been observed to use a mantle appendage to form and resorb periostracum. Anatomical and histological examinations of a ranellid (Cymatium sp.) larva collected from the Red Sea in 1987 revealed the structure and location of the pallial appendage. The mantle edges of juvenile or adult species of the Cassoidea do not show a comparable specialization. It is demonstrated that cassoid larval conch characters are sufficient to prove the existence of a pallial appendage without anatomical confirmation. A mantle appendage is not known from teleplanic (long-living planktic) veligers of other gastropod superfamilies. In cases where the larval strategies of the latter are known they are totally different. Therefore it is suggested that the adaptation of cassoid larvae to pelagic life is unique among gastropods representing an autapomorphic character of the superfamily.  相似文献

   Global change, i.e. the mega-process radically transforming the relationship between nature and human civilization since the end of World War II, is investigated from the point of view of systems analysis. It is argued that this unbridled process should rather be domesticated by planetary control strategies transpiring from a new science called “geocybernetics”. The formal aspects of geocybernetic theory are sketched and illustrated in a tutorial theatre world reflecting the overall environment and development problematic. Within this setting a straightforward operationalization of the sweeping “sustainable development” ideal through a set of concise paradigms can be achieved. Evidence is provided that geocybernetics is actually feasible on the basis of earth system modelling and fuzzy-control techniques.  相似文献

Coefficients of friction were measured periodically over a period of 30 months on the surfaces of five types of floor coverings in a new sport complex. The resulting time series were analysed with regard to both systematic and random short- and long-term effects of wear and maintenance. For detailed information about the involved wear mechanisms, two test sites characterized by different levels of pedestrian traffic were investigated for each floor covering. The systematic trends observed in time series of mean coefficients of friction were consistent with measured surface roughness parameters and could be divided into three categories, depending on the predominant wear mechanisms: smoothing of rough surfaces was accompanied by average monthly reductions of 0.007–0.014 in the coefficients of friction, measured under wet conditions, while mechanical polishing combined with coating by care products caused average changes between 0.002 and 0.006 per month. Progressive scratching and roughening of an initially smooth floor surface continuously increased the measured coefficients of friction by 0.003 per month. The cumulative long-term effects of surface wear exceeded the random variations in time series of mean coefficients of friction, characterized by a repeatability standard deviation of 0.006 and a reproducibility standard deviation of 0.020, respectively. For one specific floor covering, seasonal variations with an amplitude of 0.015 were observed in the time series of measured coefficients of friction.  相似文献

Since many predators can live under certain circumstances as saprophytes or consume more than one prey, and different enzymes are generally required for each prey or nutrient digestion, the predator must be sufficiently adaptive for effective utilization of the prey mass. Control modes as induction and repression, however, act at the level of genes and cause changes in the biosynthesis rate of these enzymes. In this work, an extension of the catabolic repression control mode from the level of genes to the level of the behavior of the predator is proposed, in order to model the balanced attack of the predator on the prey. It is demonstrated that, when the prey population has the competitive advantage over the predator (in using the common substrate), the catabolic repression mechanism favors the prey population, which dominates over the predator even at low specific dilution rate values, whereas, the stable steady or periodic coexistence state is not favored. When the predator has the competitive advantage at low substrate concentrations and the prey at high substrate concentrations, the introduction of the catabolic repression mechanism in the model again favors the stable steady state of the prey, while the coexistence region is dramatically reduced. Conversely, when the prey population has the competitive advantage at low and the predator at high substrate concentrations, dominance of prey and coexistence steady state could be favored by the catabolic repression mechanism. It is concluded that the catabolic repression control favors dominance of the prey population and, under certain circumstances, coexistence of both prey and predator populations.  相似文献

Six mediterranean macroalgae were cultivated for more than 2 yr under shade culture conditions, after which light requirements for growth were investigated at 16±2°C. The saturation light levels for growth in the logarithmic phase were related to the bathymetric distribution of the algae on the shore. The eulittoral to supralittoral red alga Bangia atropurpurea was saturated at a photon fluence rate of 71 mol photons m-2 s-1, the upper sublittoral to eulittoral brown algae Scytosiphon lomentaria, Colpomenia peregrina and Kuckuckia spinosa and the sublittoral brown alga Stictyosiphon soriferus at 39 to 71 mol photons m-2 s-1, and the deep-water alga Choristocarpus tenellus at 19 mol photons m-2 s-1. The minimum light requirements for growth of B. atropurpurea and C. tenellus were determined by observing length increase for 56 d under limiting light conditions. The compensation and minimum irradiances required for growth of B. atropurpurea were 0.5 and 1 mol photons m-2 s-1 respectively. The corresponding values for C. tenellus were 0.15 to 0.28 and 0.5 mol photons m-2 s-1 respectively. C. tenellus was the siowest-growing species tested at saturating light conditions, but it grew faster than B. atropurpurea at 1 mol photons m-2 s-1. Both B. atropurpurea and C. tenellus were able to survive 56 d in darkness, but only the latter grew under darkness in the first 14 d.  相似文献

The unicellular alga Tetraselmis (Platymonas) subcordiformis (Prasinophyceae) displayed a two-phase increase in DMSP (dimethylsulfoniopropionate) contents in response to nitrogen deficiency. In the first phase, DMSP pools increased by 75% within 24 h. The second increase in DMSP was observed after 14 d and was accompanied by cyst formation. Methionine metabolism was involved in DMSP accumulation. A 2.6-fold increase of the DMSP pool could be induced by supplementing a complete ASP (artifical seawater Provasoli) medium with 100 M L-methionine. Inhibition of methionine utilization by T. subcordiformis caused by the addition of S-adenosylhomocystein, a competitive inhibitor of S-adenosylmethionine-dependent transmethylases, resulted in a 24% increase of DMSP contents after 7 h. DMSP accumulation after hyperosmotic shock was significantly delayed when methionine liberation from proteins was inhibited by a set of protease inhibitors. A model for the mechanism of DMSP accumulation is presented on the basis of these data and additional information from the literature. It is proposed that methionine availability in T. subcordiformis determines the rate of DMSP synthesis.  相似文献

Summary The predator,Rhizophagus grandis, is linked to its specific prey,Dendroctonus micans, by semiochemical signals regulating oviposition and long range orientation. A mixture of simple oxygenated monoterpenes [(–)—fenchone, (–)—pinocamphone, rac. camphor, terpinene-4-ol, borneol, fenchol and verbenone], identified from the frass ofD. micans has been found to be extremely active in a flight windtunnel as a long—range attractant for the predator. The mixture elicited 84 % of the response to larval frass of the prey. Excluding pinocamphone from the mixture did not influence its activity. Also, changing the absolute configurations of some of the components (fenchol, terpinene-4-ol and borneol) did not influence the predators' response. However, the addition of (–)—-terpineol increased the attractivity of the synthetic blend to almost that of larval frass of the prey. Ecological implications of the identified semiochemicals and their use in pest management are discussed.  相似文献
