Proliferation of Glycogen Accumulating Organisms (GAOs) accounts as one of the major bottlenecks in biological phosphorus removal systems. GAO outcompeting polyphosphate accumulating organisms (PAOs) results in lower P-removal. Thus, finding optimal conditions that favour PAO in front of GAO is a current focus of research. This work shows how nitrite can provide a novel strategy for PAO enrichment. A propionate-fed GAO-enriched biomass (70% Defluviicoccus I, 18% Defluviicoccus II and 10% PAO) was subjected more than 50 d under anaerobic-anoxic conditions with nitrite as electron acceptor. These operational conditions led to a PAO-enriched sludge (85%) where GAO were washed out of the system (<10%), demonstrating the validity of the new approach for PAO enrichment. In addition, the presented suppression of Defluviicocus GAO with nitrite represents an add-on benefit to the nitrite-based systems since the proliferation of non-desirable GAO can be easily ruled out and added to the other benefits (i.e. lower aeration and COD requirements). 相似文献

AbstractMembers of TRP receptor family are involved in response to acidification. Here, we determined the effect of capsaicin, one of the TRP receptor activators, on hemolymph acid-base status in the American cockroach. Periplaneta americana adult individuals were injected with lactic acid (5% or 10%) and exposed to 100?µM capsaicin solution. Hemolymph pH was measured 15?min, 1, 4, 8 and 24?h after lactic acid and capsaicin application with a glass microelectrode. The results demonstrated that cockroaches recover from acidosis within 4?h from acid injection. Capsaicin impaired the buffering capacity of insects’ hemolymph, resulting in significant drop of hemolymph pH observed even 24?h after application. Joint action of capsaicin and acidosis reveals new insight into possible mechanism of capsaicin action on TRP receptors in insects. 相似文献

Abstract Azinphos‐methyl, carbaryl, dimethoate, phosmet and phosalone were used in apple orchards to manage apple aphid, apple maggot, woolly apple aphid and leaf eating caterpillars. Among the five insecticides evaluated, dimethoate, carbaryl and azinphosmethyl were the most toxic to the nymphs and adults of Hyaliodes vitripennis (Say) from two regions. Phosalone was the least toxic. Nymphs were more resistant than the adults. While the LC50 for dimethoate was 130 ppm for nymphs, it was 3 ppm for adults from St. Jean‐Baptiste‐de‐Rouville. There were also significant differences in the level of resistance between the two regions where the H. vitripennis were collected. At St. Alexandre the LC50 for phosalone on nymphs was 19, 250 ppm whereas, at St. Jean‐Baptiste‐de‐Rouville it was 160, 000 ppm. 相似文献

将分离筛选得到的甲醇降解菌固定在颗粒活性炭上,组成固定化生物活性炭反应系统,研究该反应系统处理轻度污染含甲醇废水的最佳运行条件和运行效果,结果表明,固定化生物活性炭处理轻度污染含甲醇放心水的方法明显好于3种树脂和单纯活性炭吸附处理,反应系统的最佳运行条件是水力负荷0.84-0.77m^3(m^2.h),停留时间57-62min,pH7-8,温度20℃-30℃,溶解氧是去除甲醇的主要限制因子,甲醇含量为11.3-23.1mg/L时,去除率大90%,出水CODcr小于12mg/L。此外还研究了生物活性炭生物膜的一些特点,并分析了运行中活性炭吸附性能的变化。 相似文献

研究了田间条件下旱作水稻半腐解秸秆覆盖、蚕豆秆覆盖、地膜覆盖、纸膜覆盖、生稻草覆盖 5种覆盖方式的吸氮特征 ;水稻水作与旱作的产量及其构成因素 ;水稻水作与旱作条件下灌溉水的利用效率。结果表明 ,旱作条件下水稻各部位的含氮量均大于水作 ;旱作水稻的氮素吸收、累积主要在拔节期以后 ,而水作水稻从移栽后就大量吸收氮素 ,灌浆期后很少吸收氮素 ;旱作水稻的产量以半腐解覆盖处理的最高 ,为 8415kg/hm2 ;旱作水稻耗水量只占水作耗水量的 7 14% ,旱作水稻的水分利用效率是水作的 12倍以上 相似文献

Effective environmental management requires documentation of ecosystem status and changes to that status. Without long-term
data, short-term natural variability can mask chronic and/or cumulative impacts, often until critical levels are reached.
However, a trade-off generally occurs between sampling in space and time. This study analyses a spatially and temporally nested
long-term (12 years) monitoring programme conducted on benthic macrofauna in a large harbour. Sampling was carried out at
six sites for 5.5 years, after which only two sites were sampled for the next 5 years. After this period, all six sites were
sampled for another 2 years. While ecology is frequently thought of being highly variable, this design was able to detect
trends, and cycles, in abundance, with only around 10% of species at each site exhibiting unpredictable temporal variability.
Sites exhibiting similar trends in the abundance of a species over the 12.5-year period were generally spatially contiguous,
and the spatial scale of change could be assessed. Continuous sampling at two sites identified whether changes in unsampled
sites were related to long-term cycles. Moreover, this sampling provided a long-term background of temporal fluctuations against
which to assess the ecological significance of observed changes. 相似文献

Evaluating the impacts of point source discharges on fish species in estuarine environments can be challenging because of
a paucity of resident species. We evaluated the biology of rock gunnel (Pholis gunnellus) at three relatively uncontaminated sites in the Bay of Fundy, along the Atlantic coast of Canada. Rock gunnel are seasonally
resident (April to November) in tide pools, but little was known about their life history in Atlantic Canada or their potential
for use for monitoring environmental quality. Fish were collected between April and November, and ranged from 2.46 g--15.2~g
in weight and 97 mm-170 mm in length, with a maximum age of 7 years. Both males and females were similar in size, and both
reached sexual maturity at a size of 5.5 g. Organ weights and condition indices of fish were stable from spring when they
returned from offshore (April to May) until late summer (August to September), but fall fish (October to November) had slightly
larger gonads, livers and condition indices. Rock gunnel may be a useful indicator to provide insight into local impacts of
point sources over a short time period. However, they do not provide adequate information on reproductive development and
performance since they are not exposed to onshore contaminants during the periods of gonadal development that have most commonly
