An experimental investigation of an influence of trifluoromethane CHF3, pentafluoroethane C2HF5 and perfluorobutane C4F10 on near-limit hydrogen-nitrous oxide and methane-nitrous oxide premixed flames was performed. Flammability limits, a maximum explosion pressure ΔPmax, maximum rate of pressure rise (dP/dt)max, and a laminar burning velocity Su were determined. The flammability area in the case of N2O as an oxidizer is substantially wider than for the case of the oxidizer which is the mixture of oxygen and nitrogen with the O2 content 25% (vol.). The dependences of Su, ΔPmax and (dP/dt)max on concentration of the fluorinated hydrocarbons are characterizing by an availability of maxima which positions are close to the peak concentrations of the flammability regions. A qualitative interpretation of the results obtained is given. 相似文献
An analysis of published experimental data characterizing the influence of diluents of various chemical nature (both halogenated and chemically inert) on upper flammability limits of flammable gases in air (methane and hydrogen have been considered as examples) has been done. Dependences of critical oxygen concentration and critical fuel equivalence ratio cr for mixtures combustible–air–diluent at upper flammability limits on diluent concentration were determined. The obtained data were interpreted on the basis of the concept of self-inhibition at combustion of rich mixtures of organic combustibles in air. A method for evaluation of relative effectiveness of various inhibitors and for determination of availability of self-inhibitive properties of a combustible gas has been proposed. 相似文献
Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the safety effects of increases in U.S. state maximum speed limits during the period 1993–2013.
Methods: Poisson regression was used to model state-by-state annual traffic fatality rates per mile of travel as a function of time, the unemployment rate, the percentage of the driving age population that was younger than 25, per capita alcohol consumption, and the maximum posted speed limit on any road in the state. Separate analyses were conducted for all roads, interstates and freeways, and all other roads.
Results: A 5 mph increase in the maximum state speed limit was associated with an 8% increase in fatality rates on interstates and freeways and a 4% increase on other roads. In total, there were an estimated 33,000 more traffic fatalities during the years 1995–2013 than would have been expected if maximum speed limits had not increased. In 2013 alone, there were approximately 1,900 additional deaths—500 on interstates/freeways and 1,400 on other roads.
Conclusions: There is a definite trend of increased fatality risk when speed limits are raised. As roadway sections with higher speed limits have become more ubiquitous, the increase in fatality risk has extended beyond these roadways. The increase in risk has been so great that it has now largely offset the beneficial effects of some other traffic safety strategies. State policy makers should keep this trade-off in mind when considering proposals to raise speed limits. 相似文献
Peri-urban lands are often used for production of vegetables for better market accessibility and higher prices. But most of these lands are contaminated with heavy metals through industrial effluents, sewage and sludge, and vehicular emission. Vegetables grown in such lands, therefore, are likely to be contaminated with heavy metals and unsafe for consumption. Samples of vegetables i.e., spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.); soil and irrigation water were collected from 5 peri-urban sites of New Delhi to monitor their heavy metal loads. While heavy metal load of the soils were below the maximum allowable limit prescribed by the World Health Organization (WHO), it was higher in irrigation water and vegetable samples. The spinach and okra samples showed Zn, Pb and Cd levels higher than the WHO limits. The levels of Cu, however, were at their safe limits. Metal contamination was higher in spinach than in okra. Spatial variability of metal contamination was also observed in the study. Bio-availability of metals present in soil showed a positive relationship with their total content and organic matter content of soil but no relationship was observed with soil pH. Washing of vegetables with clean water was a very effective and easy way of decontaminating the metal pollution as it reduced the contamination by 75 to 100%. 相似文献
