Ein neuer Biotest mit der HefeSaccharomyces cerevisiae auf aquatische Toxizit?t

Zusammenfassung  Die G?rleistung der HefeSaccharomyces cerevisiae wird als Bioindikator zur Erfassung aquatoxischer Wirkungen genutzt. Dazu wird die CO₂-Produktion der Hefezellen nach einer Vermehrungsphase unter toxischen Einflüssen gemessen. Als Kennwert (EC₂₀) dient die Schadstoffkonzentration, die die G?rung um 20% mindert. Es werden organische Verbindungen (unpolare und polare Narkotika), anorganische Salze (insbesondere von Schwermetallen), Tenside und Pflanzenschutzmittel geprüft. Die Ergebnisse werden, soweit verfügbar, mit den Daten eines Ciliatentestes mitTetrahymena pyriformis verglichen. Es ergab sich eine übereinstimmung von 90% bei vergleichbarer Testempfindlichkeit. Ergebnisse des Hefetests sind damit ?kotoxikologisch aussagef?hig. Der Test ist reproduzierbar, methodisch einfach zu handhaben und bietet eine Alternative für die Abwasserprüfung, da steriles Arbeiten nicht erforderlich ist. Online-First: 15. Juni 2000     

Evaluating mine plans under uncertainty: Can the real options make a difference?

Over the last few years, many studies have presented the real options valuation (ROV) as a promising technique of valuing natural resource investments under conditions of uncertainty. Apart from the common conclusion that the ROV is better than the conventional net present value (NPV) method in integrating the value of management flexibility and proper handling of cash flows risk, there is a lack of procedures for testing the usefulness and advantages of the ROV over the static NPV method in practice. Arguably, it is not yet clear whether the ROV can deal with the complexity of mining projects and whether it can really be applied to make decisions that improve project value.     

Del(18p) syndrome with increased nuchal translucency in prenatal diagnosis

We report a de novo translocation between chromosome 15 and 18 resulting in monosomy 18p in prenatal diagnosis. The patient was referred for amniocentesis due to increased nuchal translucency (INT) (5 mm) at 13.6 weeks of gestation. Karyotype of the fetus revealed 45,XX,der(15;18)(q10;q10) in all metaphases. The targeted fetal ultrasound at 20 weeks of gestation did not show any special physical abnormalities other than 6.4 mm of nuchal fold thickness. Molecular cytogenetic findings using CGH and FISH confirmed the del(18p) with dicentromeres from both chromosome 15 and 18. The present study shows that the INT at first trimester was the only prenatal finding for the fetus with del(18p) syndrome and that molecular cytogenetic methods are useful for detecting chromosomal aberrations precisely.
