Historical alterations of nitrogen deposition in the western part of Germany were investigated by comparing nitrogen concentrations and 15N natural abundance of historical and recent samples of the two pleurocarpous mosses Pleurozium schreberi and Scleropodium purum. Pooling of the data revealed only slight tissue N increases over the past 140 years which were significant nevertheless. At closer examination on the single site level historical increases of N concentrations were found particularly for some sites in regions where agricultural activities were considerably intensified during the second half of the 20th century. The comparison of δ15N values showed a strong depletion of 15N natural abundance in areas currently heavily influenced by livestock management. This indicates an increased impact of NHy compounds. However, the almost unchanged δ15N values in some low mountain range areas with only moderate intensification of agriculture point to a more or less constant ratio of NHy/NOx input over time. Significant correlations of both tissue N concentrations and 15N natural abundance between the two species justify the assumption that they use the same nitrogen source, probably atmospheric deposition.  相似文献

Three-dimensional (3D) porous structures facilitating cell attachment, growth, and proliferation is critical to tissue engineering applications. Traditional solid freeform fabrication (SFF) methods have limited capabilities in the fabrication of high resolution micro-scale features to implement advanced biomedical functions. In this work, we present a hybrid scaffold fabrication approach by integrating electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing technology with extrusion deposition together to fabricate hierarchical 3D scaffolds with well controlled structures at both macro and micro scale. We developed a hybrid fabrication platform and a robust fabrication process to achieve 3D hierarchical structures. The melting extrusion by pneumatic pressure was used to fabricate 3D scaffolds with filaments dimension of hundreds of microns using thermoplastic biopolymer polycaprolactone (PCL). An electrohydrodynamic (EHD) melt jet plotting process was developed to fabricate micro-scale features on the scaffolds with sub-10 μm resolution, which has great potential in advanced biomedical applications, such as cell alignment and cell guidance.  相似文献

Little data is available on the bioaccumulation of Dechlorane Plus (DP) in terrestrial organisms. Three terrestrial passerine bird species, light-vented bulbul, long-tailed shrike, and oriental magpie-robin, were collected from rural and urban sites in the Pearl River Delta to analyze for the presence of DP and its dechlorinated products in muscle and liver tissues. The relationships between trophic level and concentration and isomeric composition of DP in birds were also investigated based on stable nitrogen isotope analysis. DP levels had a wide range from 3.9 to 930 ng g−1 lipid weight (lw) in muscle and from 7.0 to 1300 ng g−1 lw in liver. Anti-Cl11-DP and syn-Cl11-DP, two dechlorinated products of DP, were also detected in bird samples with concentrations ranged between not detected (nd)-41 and nd-7.6 ng g−1 lw, respectively. DP preferentially accumulated in liver rather than in muscle for all three bird species. Birds had significantly higher concentrations of DP in urban sites than in rural sites (mean, 300 vs 73 ng g−1 lw). The fractions of anti-DP (fanti) were higher in birds collected in rural sites than in urban sites. Significant positive correlation between DP levels and δ15N values but significant negative correlation between fanti and δ15N values were found for birds in both urban and rural sites, indicating that trophic level of birds play an important role in determining DP level and isomeric profile.  相似文献

Between people who unabashedly support eating meat and those who adopt moral vegetarianism, lie a number of people who are uncomfortably carnivorous and vaguely wish they could be vegetarians. Opposing animal suffering in principle, they can ignore it in practice, relying on the visual disconnect between supermarket meat and slaughterhouse practices not to trigger their moral emotions. But what if we could have the best of both worlds in reality—eat meat and not harm animals? The nascent biotechnology of tissue culture, originally researched for medical applications, holds out just such a promise. Meat could be grown in vitro without killing animals. In fact, this technology may not just be an intriguing option, but might be our moral obligation to develop.  相似文献

Abstract

The presence of pesticides, both persistent and biodegradable, in the environment is a problem which is both significant and potentially dangerous to humans. An index of biodegradability is presented which is based on the correlation between environmental stability and fat solubility. Halogenated pesticides are, therefore, both more fat soluable and more resistant to biodegradation, while methylated pesticides are more water soluable and, therefore, more biodegradable. Three methods for detecting low‐levels of halogenated pesticides are presented: the Macro, the Micro “Florisil,”; and the Micro “Silica.”; A method is also presented to detect these chemicals in blood. Two methods for the detection of nonpersistent, organophosphorus and carbamate insecticides, Cholinesterase inhibition and urinary metabolites, are described. Finally, methods of monitoring human exposure through the detection of phenols, phenoxy acids, alkyl phophates, and anilines are presented.  相似文献

Sediment quality guidelines (SQGs) assess the ability of bottom sediment to sustain healthy infauna and water quality guidelines (WQGs) provide protection for a designated percentage of aquatic species. Filter-feeding marine species, e.g. oysters and mussels, acquire food from particles in the water column and protection of these animals is not provided by SQGs or WQGs. The current work investigated the relationship between metal (Cu, Zn) concentrations in total and fine-fraction (<62.5 μm) surficial sediment digested in a range of acids and chelating agents and oyster tissue metal concentrations. A strong correlation between oyster tissue Cu and Zn concentrations and fine-fraction surficial sediment digested in 1 M HCl provided a sedimentary guideline which predicted tissue metal concentrations in oysters and established a level (<45 μg g−1 and <1000 μg g−1, respectively) for protecting oysters from exceeding human consumption levels (70 μg g−1 and 1000 μg g−1, respectively).  相似文献

The spatial relationship between the concentration and deposition of the major ions in precipitation and stemflow and their influence on the tissue nitrogen concentration of three epiphytic bryophytes on Quercus petraea (Matt) Liebl. and Q. robur L. was investigated at seven UK Atlantic oak woodland sites with a range of total N deposition of 55-250mmolm(-2). The main driver of change in tissue N concentrations of three epiphytic bryophytes (Isothecium myosuroides Brid. (Eurhynchium myosuroides (Brid.) Schp.), Dicranum scoparium Hewd. and Thuidium tamariscinum (Hewd.) Schimp.) was total N deposition in stemflow, dominated by ammonium deposition. The three epiphytic species also showed strong relationships between tissue N concentration and total N deposition in rainfall but a poor correlation with total N ion concentration in rainfall. This study shows that epiphytic bryophytes utilise stemflow N and thus increase their risk from inputs of total N deposition compared to terricolous species at the same site.  相似文献

The first objective of this study was to determine the bioaccumulation kinetics of pyrene in the soft tissues of Crassostrea gigas (mantle, muscle, gills, digestive gland, and the remaining soft tissues). As bivalves can biotransform hydrocarbons in more polar compounds (metabolites) that are more easily excreted, the second objective was to investigate the oyster capacity to metabolize pyrene into its metabolite, the 1-hydroxypyrene. To these ends, oysters were exposed 24 h to waterborne 14C-pyrene then placed in depuration conditions for 15 d. Oysters efficiently bioaccumulated pyrene in their soft tissues and equilibrium was reached within the exposure time. The metabolite1-hydroxypyrene was also detected in oyster tissues but represented only 4-14% of the parent pyrene. At the end of the exposure period, the gills and the mantle showed the highest pyrene proportion of total soft tissue content, i.e. 47% and 26%, respectively. After 15 d of depuration, the mantle contained 32% and 30% of the remaining pyrene and 1-hydroxypyrene, respectively. As C. gigas did not display a high capacity for metabolizing pyrene, it can be considered as a good bioindicator species to survey and monitor pyrene contamination in the coastal marine environment.  相似文献

本研究以湖南省林业技术推广总站在湖南选育的17个耐寒桉树优良单株为试验材料,进行组培繁殖,有14个优良单株成功地诱导出了愈伤组织或芽。结果表明,以一年生扦插苗的当年生嫩枝作为外植体来源,污染率低且愈伤组织和芽的诱导率高;0.25%氯化汞消毒15—20分钟,可将污染率控制在70%以下,且对外植体的损害最小;按树最佳的诱导培养基为:1/2MS+BA_(1.0)+IBA_(0.25),最佳的继代培基为:MS+BA_(1.0)+KT_(1.0)+VB2_(10)。  相似文献
