ABSTRACT: Information on biologically important physical and chemical variables is presented for Lake Oconee, a newly impounded pumped storage reservoir in Georgia. During its first summer, when no pumping occurred, temperature, oxygen, pH, inorganic nitrogen, and phosphorus were vertically stratified with severe hypolimnetic oxygen depletion. During the second summer, when pumped storage was in operation, more homogenous vertical profiles, generally higher oxygen, and lower dissolved nutrient concentrations were observed. These pumped storage effects were observed at all stations, rather than being confined to the immediate vicinity of the dam. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: A vertical dissolved oxygen model was calibrated and verified using independent field data sets from 1972 and 1973 in Lake Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ), a short detention time reservoir with anaerobic hypolimnion. Ammonia, carbonaceous BOD, conductivity, and temperature were also simulated as state variables. The conductivity results provided a check on the mass balance and the method of entering the inflows to the reservoir model. –N ha–1, at either 350 ppm or 700 ppm CO2, for 3 months. Soil respiration and net canopy photosynthesis were both increased by added N and elevated CO2, but soil respiration increased proportionately less than fixation by photosynthesis. Thus, both elevated CO2 and N appeared to increase potential C sequestration, although adding N at elevated CO2 reduced the C sequestered as a proportion of that fixed relative to elevated CO2 alone. Across all treatments below-ground respiratory C losses were predicted by root biomass, but not by soil solution C and N concentrations. Specific root-dependent respiration was increased by elevated CO2, such that belowg-round respiration per unit biomass and per unit plant N was increased. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Hydrological and geochemical spatial patterns and temporal trends were analyzed using U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) water quality data collected from 1975 to 1999 along the uppermost 600 km of the Rio Grande in Colorado and New Mexico. Data on discharge, specific conductivity (SC), total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+, K+, HCO3?, SO42‐, Cl?, F?, and SiO2 came from six USGS stations ranging from the Colorado‐New Mexico border to below Albuquerque, New Mexico. Linear regression, Kendall's S, and Seasonal Kendall's S’ were used to detect trends, and ANOVA was used to analyze spatial differences between stations. Statistically significant increasing trends occurred in SC, TDS, Ca2+, Na+, Mg2+, K+, Cl?, and F?in the uppermost reaches, and significant decreasing trends of SC, TDS, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, HCO3?, and SO42‐occurred at the lower stations around Albuquerque. Both fluoride concentrations and pH values increased at and below Albuquerque over the study period. Discharge data show an increasing trend across all stations. Spatially, data for dissolved substances show generally linear upstream to downstream increases in concentrations in the upper four stations, with several notable nonlinear increases at and below Albuquerque (SC, TDS, Na+, Cl?). Significant increases in pH appear at and below Albuquerque, relative to upstream stations, probably due to improved sewage treatment. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: The effects of variable discharges during the summer on the dissolved oxygen (DO) content and water temperature upstream and downstream of the Conowingo Hydroelectric Power Station were investigated. The DO dynamics are controlled primarily by meteorological factors that are independent of the mode of hydrostation operation. DO stratification occurred during the summer in Conowingo Pond, but thermal stratification was not observed. The magnitude and duration of off-peak discharges including a run-of-the-river operation did not affect DO stratification in Conowingo Pond; little vertical mixing occurred. However, strong winds and/or high river flows temporarily destroyed DO stratification. The run-of-the-river operation or off-peak continuous discharge schemes did not provide better DO conditions downstream of the hydrostation than the peaking operation with intermittent off-peak releases. A statistical model predicted that a DO of 5 ppm occurs 0.6 miles downstream of the powerhouse when the natural river flow is consistently greater than 15,000 cfs and water temperature is less than 80°F. A mean daily DO of at least 4 ppm was predicted to occur over 80 percent of the time during the 92-day summer period. Farther downstream (1.3 miles from the powerhouse) a mean daily DO of at least 4 ppm was predicted to occur 90 percent of the time in summer. 相似文献

Seasonal variability in CDOM absorption and fluorescence properties in the

Absorption and fluorescence properties of chromophoric dissolved organic matter(CDOM) along a 124 km transect in the Barataria Basin,a large estuary located in Louisiana,USA,were investigated during high and low flow periods of the Mississippi River in the spring and winter of 2008-2009. Mean CDOM absorption at 355 nm from the marine to the freshwater end member stations ranged from(3.25 ± 0.56) to(20.76 ± 2.43) m-1 for the three month high flow period whereas it varied from(1.48 ± 1.08) to(25.45 ± 7.03) m-1 for the same stations during low flow period. Corresponding salinity values at these stations indicated the influence of river and shelf exchanges in the lower basin and precipitation and runofl in the upper basin. An inverse relationship of CDOM absorbance and fluorescence with salinity observed in the basin could be a useful indicator of salinity. CDOM fluorescence also varied over a large range showing an approximately 8 to 12-fold increase between the marine and freshwater end members for the two flow seasons. Excitation-emission matrix spectral plots indicated the presence of various fluorescence components with highest being the A-peak,lowest the T-peak,and the C and M-peaks showing similar trends along the transect. During low flow season the A/C ratio were well correlated with station locations indicating increased terrestrial influence towards the upper basin. CDOM absorption and fluorescence at 355 nm were highly correlated and independent of CDOM sources suggesting that fluorescence could be used to characterize CDOM in the basin. 相似文献

为了调整传统潜流湿地内部溶解氧分布状态,提高其对生活污水水质净化的效率,对传统潜流湿地进行了不同区段的划分及功能强化,设计了不同结构的好氧/厌氧多级串联潜流人工湿地,研究了好氧/厌氧段比例、位置及人工曝气等因素对出水COD的影响,并与传统潜流湿地进行净化效果的比较。结果表明,传统潜流湿地对COD的去除率为70.3%,以好氧/厌氧/好氧段方式串联采用前部和后部曝气并作厌氧处理的潜流湿地(即O-A-O强化曝气组)对COD的去除率为90.1%,比传统潜流湿地提高了19.8%;O-A-O强化曝气组平均出水浓度为17.4mg/L,不曝气的O-A-O出水COD浓度基本维持在50.0~60.0mg/L;对O-A-O前部和后部曝气处理后COD的去除率分别提高了30.4%和20.8%。可见,在实验条件下O-A-O强化曝气组对COD的去除率最高,结构相同的湿地曝气处理后出水水质有显著改善,在湿地前部曝气对COD的去除效果尤为显著。 相似文献

本研究利用XAD-8大孔树脂对某城市污水处理厂的厌氧-缺氧-好氧(A2O)工艺出水中的溶解性有机物进行了组分分离,分析了各组分的溶解性有机碳(Dissolved organic carbon,DOC)、紫外-可见光谱和遗传毒性.结果表明,污水中亲水性物质和疏水酸性物质的DOC含量分别占总DOC含量的65%和24%.亲水性物质组分中的芳香族化合物含量显著高于其它组分,但是单位质量的亲水性物质、疏水酸性物质和疏水碱性物质中的芳香族化合物含量相近.污水具有一定的遗传毒性,主要遗传毒性物质为亲水性物质和疏水酸性物质,而疏水碱性物质和疏水中性物质则未检出遗传毒性. 相似文献

The composition and vertical profiles of low molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) and the contribution of them to dissolved organic matter (DOM) in sediment porewaters in Bosten Lake, Xinjiang, China were investigated. The results showed that total concentration of LMWOAs was up to 94.5 μmol/L and their proportion in DOM was 5.6%, suggesting that LMWOAs were important chemical components in DOM in lake sediment porewaters. Among the seven LMWOAs, pyruvic and acetic acid had the highest concentrations with 26.30 and 8.31 μmol/L, accounting for 51.4% and 14.92% of LMWOAs, respectively. Trifluoroacetic and sorbic acid had the lowest concentrations, indicating that the compositions of LMWOAs in relative reducing environments were largely different from those reported in glacier, atmosphere and soils. The concentrations of lactic, acetic, formic, sorbic and oxalic acid decreased with increasing depth, probably relating to stronger microbial activities in the initial stage of early diagenesis. Trifluoroacetic acid was mainly anthropogenic with its concentration, showing a diusive trend from the surface to bottom sediments. The concentrations of lactic acid and nitrate generally showed a consistent profile. The increasing concentration of pyruvic acid in the vertical profile was just opposite to that of sulfate, revealing a significant negative relationship between them. Oxalic acid remained constant except for an obvious peak at 6 cm depth. The results indicated the diversities in sources and behaviors for various LMWOAs during early diagenesis in sediments. 相似文献

The investigation of dissolved organic matter (DOM) on urease, catalase and polyphenol oxidase activity in a phenanthrene (Phe)-
contaminated soil was conducted under laboratory incubation conditions. Values of soil enzymatic activity depended mainly on
incubation time. In the initial 16 days, urease activity increased, and was followed by a decrease. In the initial 8 days, catalase activity
decreased and then increased. Variation of polyphenol oxidase activity was just the reverse of catalase activity. After 30 days of
incubation, no pronounced di erence among treatments with Phe, Phe and DOM, and control were detected in urease, catalase and
polyphenol oxidase activity. Phe might inhibit urease and catalase, and stimulate polyphenol oxidase. DOM could improve inhibition
of Phe in soil urease and catalase activity during the initial period of applying DOM. Nevertheless, DOM had no significant e ect on
polyphenol oxidase activity in the Phe contaminated soil. There was a negative correlation between catalase and polyphenol oxidase
(r = –0.761***), and catalase and urease (r = –0.554**). Additionally, a positive correlation between polyphenol oxidase and urease
was also detected (r = 0.701***). It is implied that the formed DOM after application of organic wastes into soils may counteract the
inhibition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil enzyme activities. 相似文献
