Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) groundwater remediation projects often require a combination of technologies resulting in increasing the project costs. A cost-effective in situ photocatalytic reactor design, Honeycomb II, is proposed and tested for its efficiency in MTBE degradation at various flows. This study is an intermediate phase of the research in developing an in situ photocatalytic reactor for groundwater remediation. It examines the effect of the operating variables: air and water flow and double passages through Honeycomb II, on the MTBE removal. MTBE vaporisation is affected by not only temperature, Henry’s law constant and air flow to volume ratio but also reactor geometry. The column reactor achieved more than 84% MTBE removal after 8 h at flows equivalent to horizontal groundwater velocities slower than 21.2 cm d−1. Despite the contrasting properties between a photocatalytic indicator methylene blue and MTBE, the reactor efficiency in degrading both compounds showed similar responses towards flow (equivalent groundwater velocity and hydraulic residence time (HRT)). The critical HRT for both compounds was approximately 1 d, which corresponded to a velocity of 21.2 cm d−1. A double pass through both new and used catalysts achieved more than 95% MTBE removal after two passes in 48 h. It also verified that the removal efficiency can be estimated via the sequential order of the removal efficiency of one pass obtained in the laboratory. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are frequently detected in food and environmental samples. We used compound specific isotope analysis to determine the δ13C values of individual PBDEs in two technical mixtures. Within the same technical product (DE-71 or DE-79), BDE congeners were the more depleted in 13C the higher brominated they were. In contrast, the products of light-induced hydrodebromination of BDE 47 and technical DE-79 were more enriched in 13C because of more stable bonds between 13C and bromine. As a result, the δ13C values of the irradiated solution progressed diametrically compared to those of the technical synthesis. The ratio of the δ13C values of BDE 47 to BDE 99 and of BDE 99 to BDE 153 are thus suggested as indicators to distinguish native technical products from transformation products. Ratios <1 are typical for native congeners (e.g. in DE-71) while the reversed ratio (>1) is typical of transformation products. 相似文献

为解决低碳氮比污水生物脱氮过程反硝化碳源不足的问题,利用剩余污泥水解酸化液为外加碳源,通过具有曝气段与非曝气段的一体化曝气生物滤池(BAF),研究低碳氮比污水生物脱氮的性能与工艺条件。实验结果表明,预处理后的水解酸化液VFAs为3134.9~5251.4mg/L、ThODVFAs/COD为59.87%~91.85%,适合作为生物脱氮的外加碳源;水解酸化液的投配量、进水TN浓度对系统生物脱氮效果的影响较大,气水比、曝气段与非曝气段比例对系统的硝化和反硝化性能有重要的影响;在温度为25±1℃,水解酸化液COD平均为7555.1mg/L,进水TN、NH4-N和COD分别平均为43.88mg/L、39.04mg/L和56.8mg/L,碳源与污水投配的流量比为1:75的条件下,当BAF水力停留时间(HRT)为8h、曝气段与非曝气段比例为3:3、气水比为10:1、回流比为2:1时,NH4-N和TN的去除率分别超过98%和75%,出水COD平均为28.6mg/L。研究指出,剩余污泥水解酸化液经过预处理后可用作低碳氮比污水生物脱氮的外加碳源,有效地提高了反硝化效果,并不会造成二次污染,同时又可以实现剩余污泥的减量化和资源化。 相似文献

Stable nitrogen isotopic composition (δ15N) of aquatic biota increases with anthropogenic N inputs such as sewage and livestock waste downstream. Increase in δ15N of riparian spiders downstream may reflect the anthropogenic pollution exposure through predation on aquatic insects. A two-source mixing model based on stable carbon isotopic composition showed the greatest dependence on aquatic insects (84%) by horizontal web-building spiders, followed by intermediate (48%) and low (31%) dependence by cursorial and vertical web-building spiders, respectively. The spider body size was negatively correlated with the dietary proportion of aquatic insects and spider δ15N. The aquatic subsidies transported anthropogenic N to smaller riparian spiders downstream. This transport of anthropogenic N was regulated by spider’s guild designation and body size. 相似文献
