Transport phases of four metals of geochemical and water quality importance were investigated in rivers around Jamshedpur. The metals iron, manganese, zinc and copper were partitioned into dissolved, adsorbed and or ion exchangeable, solid organic, oxide coating and crystalline phases applying filtration for the dissolved phase and a chemical fractionation scheme for the particulates. Iron and copper were transported mainly in the particulate phases at all sites, while manganese and zinc were found in the dissolved phase up to a hundred percent depending on the pH of water sample and pollution at the site concerned. Except copper more than 75 percent of all other three metals occurred in transport modes thought to be available to aqueous and biotic interactions. Copper was in available phases from 50 to 70 percent. The significance of metal partitioning as a factor in controlling metal availability and toxicity to biota is discussed. 相似文献

The potential environmental risk posed by metals in forest soils is typically evaluated by modeling metal mobility using soil-solution partitioning coefficients (K(d)), although such information is generally restricted to a few well-studied metals. Soil-solution partitioning coefficients were determined for 17 mineral elements (Al, As, Be, Ba, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, Ga, K, Li, Mg, Rb, Sr, Tl, U and V) in A-horizon (0-5 cm) soil at 46 forested sites that border the Precambrian Shield in central Ontario, where soil pH(aq) varied from 3.9 to 8.1. Sites were dominated by mature sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.), white birch (Betula papyrifera Marsh.), balsam fir (Abies balsamea (L.) Mill.) or white pine (Pinus strobus L.). Log K(d) values for all elements could be predicted by empirical linear regression with soil pH (r (2) = 0.17-0.77) independent of forest type, although this relationship was greatly affected by positive relationships between acid-extractable metal concentration and pH(aq) for 13 of the 17 elements. Elements that exhibited strong or moderate (r (2)> 0.29; p < 0.001) relationships with soil pH(aq) in soil water extracts include Al, Ba, Fe, Ga, K, Li, Rb, Tl, V (negative) and Ca (positive). Elemental partitioning in mineral soil was independent of forest type; tree species differed in their response to chemical differences in mineral soil. For example, Rb, Ba, and Sr concentrations in foliage of sugar maple and white birch significantly increased with increasing soil acidity, whereas Rb, Ba, and Sr concentrations in balsam fir and white pine foliage exhibited no response to soil pH(aq). While K(d) values can provide useful information on the potential mobility and bioavailability of mineral elements in forest soils, care must be used when interpreting the relative contribution of solid and aqueous phases to this relationship and the differing responses of vegetation in elemental cycling in forests must also be considered. 相似文献

Honey bees, Apis mellifera L., bred for hygienic behavior uncap and remove diseased and mite-infested brood. We hypothesized that within a colony bred for hygienic behavior, there would be differences in olfactory sensitivity among bees of the same age. We predicted that bees that initiate the behavior by perforating and uncapping brood would have greater olfactory sensitivity to the odor of the diseased brood, and would be better able to discriminate between odors of healthy and diseased brood, compared to bees that complete the behavior by removing the uncapped brood from the cells. Electroantennogram recordings of 15- to 21-day-old bees from three colonies demonstrated that bees collected while uncapping dead brood had significantly greater olfactory sensitivity to all concentrations of diseased brood odor compared to bees collected while removing brood. Proboscis-extension reflex discrimination conditioning demonstrated that 15- to 21-day-old bees collected while uncapping discriminated significantly better and generalized significantly less between the odors of diseased and healthy brood compared to bees collected while removing, when the odor of diseased brood was rewarded, but not when the odor of healthy brood was rewarded. Bees collected while uncapping brood that had been pierced with a pin had significantly less olfactory sensitivity than bees collected while uncapping freeze-killed brood, most likely because the pierced brood had greater stimulus intensity. Initiation of hygienic behavior depends on the olfactory sensitivity of the bee and stimulus intensity of the abnormal brood. Differential olfactory sensitivity and responsiveness among hygienic bees could lead to the apparent partitioning of the behavior into uncapping and removing components.Communicated by R.F.A. An intensive sampling program had been undertaken in autumn (October, 2008) and winter (December, 2008 and January, 2009)
at urban (Xiamen University and Xianyue residential area), suburban (Institute of Urban Environment), industrial area (Lulian Hotel)
and background (Tingxi Reservoir) in Xiamen, Fujian Province, to characterize the atmospheric concentration and gas-particle phase
partitioning of PAHs. The average concentration of total PAHs in winter was almost 1.7 times higher than those in autumn. The log
scale plot of Kp versus sub-cooled liquid vapor pressure (P0
L) for all the data of autumn and winter season samples gave significantly
di erent slopes. The slope for the winter samples (–0.72) was steeper than that for the autumn samples (–0.58). The partitioning results
indicated that slope values varied depending on characteristics of specific site, source region and meteorological conditions which
play important roles in the partitioning of PAHs. In addition, local emission sources had a stronger e ect on partitioning results than
long-transported polluted plume. The sources of PAHs in five sampling sites in Xiamen also have been discussed initially. Diagnostic
ratios showed that the primary source of PAHs in urban, suburban and industrial area was from vehicle exhausts. While emission from

采用固定层燃炉及向污泥中添加Cd方式,分别研究了污泥焚烧过程中有机氯(PVC)与无机氯(NaCl)对Cd迁移转化行为的影响,同时考察了不同焚烧条件下Cd的迁移及分布规律.结果表明,污泥焚烧过程中不同氯化物的加入均增强了Cd向飞灰或者烟气中迁移,但随着氯化物加入量的增加,Cd挥发增加的趋势并不明显.随温度的升高,有机氯(PVC)与无机氯(NaCl)均使得Cd在底渣中的分布减少,而焚烧时间及初始浓度对Cd迁移分布没有显著影响.底渣和飞灰的SEM-EDS和XRD分析表明,污泥焚烧过程中NaCl的加入导致Cd易与氯化物形成CdCl2、Na2CdCl4、K2CdCl6、K2CdSiO4和NaCdO2,而PVC的加入,除了与Cd形成Na2CdCl4和CdCl2外,还生成了K4CdCl6和K6CdO4氯化物,可见有机氯(PVC)与无机氯(NaCl)对Cd迁移转化影响主要与Cd的生成物种类及形态有关. 相似文献

利用淮河4个采样点同时采集的水、表层沉积物和鲤鱼体内多氯联苯不同同系物的浓度分析数据,讨论该类污染物在水体多介质体系中转移分配规律.研究结果表明,在现场条件下观察到的水,沉积物有机碳分配系数(KOC)的对数及生物富集因子(BCF)的对数与正辛醇,水分配系数(KOW)的对数之间没有相关性.但是当假定水中的多氯联苯同系物与溶解有机碳相互作用并改变了有机污染物在水中形态分布时,以游离态多氯联苯浓度重新计算得到的log KOC和log BCF正比于log KOW,因此,在评价多氯联苯污染生态效应时,溶解有机物的影响不可忽视. 相似文献
