We present an exploratory analysis of reported county-specific incidence of Lyme disease in the northeastern United States
for the years 1990–2000. We briefly review the disease ecology of Lyme disease and the use of risk maps to describe local
incidence as estimates of local risk of disease. We place the relevant elements of local environmental and ecological variables,
local disease incidence, and (importantly) local disease reporting in a conceptual context to frame our analysis. We then
apply hierarchical linear models of increasing complexity to summarize observed patterns in reported incidence, borrowing
information across counties to improve local precision. We find areas of increasing incidence in the central northeastern
Atlantic coast counties, increasing incidence branching to the north and west, and an area of fairly stable and slightly decreasing

This study was carried out in order to determine the effect of physical disability (paraplegia) and sensory disability (deafness) on motor skills of the upper limbs. Studies were distinguished by two parameters: the nature of the control curve (sine or random) and the magnitude of the isometric force exerted on the lever (10?N, 20?N, 40?N, 80?N). A comparison of the quality of manual force control in a visual detection task among groups of people with sensory disability (deaf), people with physical disability (paraplegic) and people without disability showed differences among those groups. Values of force above 20?N create conditions of lower quality of control and of direction of force exertion outside the body. Precision estimates are presented for precipitation chemistry and depth measurements made by the Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CAPMoN). The estimates were made for daily measurements of ion concentration and precipitation depth as well as for weekly, 28-day, seasonal and annual precipitation-weighted mean concentrations and depths. The data on which the estimates are based were collected from collocated samplers at five CAPMoN sites during the period 1985 to 1993. The data pairs from the collocated samplers were used to calculate the between-instrument error defined as 1/2 times the difference between the paired sample concentrations (or depths). For all of the ion concentrations and depths, the between-sampler errors were found not to be normally distributed, but the normality of the distributions improved with the length of the (volume-weighting) time period considered. A set of quantitative measures of overall network precision were derived in absolute (mg L-1) and relative (%) units. These included the Modified Median Absolute Deviation (M.MAD), the P90% probability values and the Coefficient of Variation (CoV). The latter, defined as the percent ratio of the M.MAD to the median concentration (or depth), represents the relative precision at the center of the error and concentration (and depth) distributions. , sample depth and standard gauge depth, and not as high (between 10 and <35%) for Cl-, Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and K+. The ions with the lowest median concentrations had the poorest relative precision since so many of the concentrations were at or near the analytical detection limit. Except for the sample and standard gauge depths, both the absolute and relative precision improved with the length of the precipitation-weighting period. Detailed statistical testing established that the precision of the daily measurements is dependent on a number of factors, the most dominant being sample depth and concentration, i.e., the absolute precision improves with increasing sample depth and decreasing concentration. The strength of these relationships diminished with the length of the precipitation-weighting period being considered. Laboratory-related sources of imprecision were found to account for less than 4% of the overall daily measurement imprecision for most species, while field-related sources of imprecision accounted for the balance. 在井下巷道工程设计多个微震监测系统传感器站网空间布置方案,地震信号由传感器采集并进行前置放大,传至井下数据交换中心,经A/D转化后的数字信号再经由光缆传至地表监测控制中心相连的计算机,利用监测数据对矿山地震活动及岩爆与地压活动进行分析研究、实时的监测和预报.应用该微震监测技术对冬瓜山铜矿的事件定位精度和系统灵敏度的分析,对人工震源定位及定位精度进行的验证实验以及对冬瓜山矿区井下各种振动波形进行的识别和分析,取得了很好的效果.微震监测系统的建立对于推动我国矿山地压灾害监测和安全管理水平具有重要参考意义. 相似文献

Abstract: Streamlined sampling procedures must be used to achieve a sufficient sample size with limited resources in studies undertaken to evaluate habitat status and potential management‐related habitat degradation at a regional scale. At the same time, these sampling procedures must achieve sufficient precision to answer science and policy‐relevant questions with an acceptable and statistically quantifiable level of uncertainty. In this paper, we examine precision and sources of error in streambed substrate characterization using data from the Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Program (EMAP) of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which uses a modified “pebble count” method in which particle sizes are visually estimated rather than measured. While the coarse (2?) size classes used in EMAP have little effect on the precision of estimated geometric mean (Dgm) or median (D50) particle diameter, variable classification bias among observers can contribute as much as 0.3?, or about 15‐20%, to the root‐mean‐square error (RMSE) of Dgm or D50 estimates. Dgm and D50 estimates based on EMAP data are nearly equal when fine sediments (<2 mm) are excluded, but otherwise can differ by up to a factor of 2 or more, with Dgm < D50 for gravel‐bed streams. The RMSE of reach‐scale particle size estimates based on visually classified particle count data from EMAP surveys, including variability associated with reoccupying unmarked sample reaches during revisits, is up to five to seven times higher than that reported for traditional measured pebble counts by multiple observers at a plot scale. Nonetheless, a variance partitioning analysis shows that the ratio of among site to revisit variance for several EMAP substrate metrics exceeds 8 for many potential regions of interest, suggesting that the data have adequate precision to be useful in regional assessments of channel morphology, habitat quality, or ecological condition. 相似文献
