Hydrochemical and multivariate statistical interpretations of 16 physicochemical parameters of 45 groundwater samples from a riverside alluvial aquifer underneath an agricultural area in Osong, central Korea, were performed in this study to understand the spatial controls of nitrate concentrations in terms of biogeochemical processes occurring near oxbow lakes within a fluvial plain. Nitrate concentrations in groundwater showed a large variability from 0.1 to 190.6 mg/L (mean = 35.0 mg/L) with significantly lower values near oxbow lakes. The evaluation of hydrochemical data indicated that the groundwater chemistry (especially, degree of nitrate contamination) is mainly controlled by two competing processes: 1) agricultural contamination and 2) redox processes. In addition, results of factorial kriging, consisting of two steps (i.e., co-regionalization and factor analysis), reliably showed a spatial control of the concentrations of nitrate and other redox-sensitive species; in particular, significant denitrification was observed restrictedly near oxbow lakes. The results of this study indicate that sub-oxic conditions in an alluvial groundwater system are developed geologically and geochemically in and near oxbow lakes, which can effectively enhance the natural attenuation of nitrate before the groundwater discharges to nearby streams. This study also demonstrates the usefulness of multivariate statistical analysis in groundwater study as a supplementary tool for interpretation of complex hydrochemical data sets. 相似文献

Awareness of environmental heterogeneity in ecosystems is critical for management and conservation. We used the Xochimilco
freshwater system to describe the relationship between heterogeneity and human activities. This tropical aquatic ecosystem
south of Mexico City is comprised of a network of interconnected canals and lakes that are influenced by agricultural and
urban activities. Environmental heterogeneity was characterized by spatially extensive surveys within four regions of Xochimilco
during rainy and dry seasons over 2 years. These surveys revealed a heterogeneous system that was shallow (1.1 m, SD = 0.4 ),
warm (17°C, SD = 2.9), well oxygenated (5.0 mg l−1, SD = 3), turbid (45.7 NTU SD = 26.96), and extremely nutrient-rich (NO3–N = 15.9 mg l−1, SD=13.7; NH4–N = 2.88 mg l−1, SD = 4.24; and PO4–P = 8.3 mg l−1, SD = 2.4). Most of the variables were not significantly different between years, but did differ between seasons, suggesting
a dynamic system within a span of a year but with a high resilience over longer periods of time. Maps were produced using
interpolations to describe distributions of all variables. There was no correlation between individual variables and land
use. Consequently, we searched for relationships using all variables together by generating a combined water quality index.
Significant differences in the index were apparent among the four regions. Index values also differed within individual region
and individual water bodies (e.g., within canals), indicating that Xochimilco has high local heterogeneity. Using this index
on a map helped to relate water quality to human activities and provides a simple and clear tool for managers and policymakers. 相似文献

通过综述鄱阳湖区人地关系史3个重要时期“围湖造田”、“退田还湖”及“鄱阳湖生态经济区”人类活动对湖区生态环境的影响及三者的转变过程,探讨了湖区人地关系的转变及其驱动力。结果表明“围湖造田”降低了湖泊、湿地的诸多功能(如调蓄洪水、维持生物多样性、碳汇等),促生了人地之间的紧张关系;“退田还湖”则使湖泊、湿地功能得以逐步恢复,缓和了湖区人地关系,而“鄱阳湖生态经济区”的提出与建设将产生良好的社会、经济与生态效益,把湖区人地关系推向和谐阶段。鄱阳湖区人类活动由“围湖造田”到“退田还湖”的转变是在当地人民对自然灾害的深刻反省与国家政策的双重驱动下实现的,而“鄱阳湖生态经济区”的提出与建设则是人与自然和谐相处的价值观在社会、经济发展中的体现,是当地人民主动建设生态文明和实践科学发展观的典型案例。 相似文献

长江流域的生态环境问题近年来变得越来越严重,其集中表现为:人口急剧增长的情况下,土地资源过度利用和不合理的开发,使生态环境的脆弱性增强,造成生态环境的恶化,结果导致洪水威胁加剧。本文通过对长江流域生态环境问题的分析,提出目前存在的问题是上游森林的过度开发、毁林开荒、陡坡开荒造成水土流失,增加了中下游河湖的泥沙淤积;中下游地区盲目围湖造田,占用行洪洲滩,湿地生态环境遭到破坏,造成水调蓄面积减少。最后就生态环境问题对洪涝的影响进行了评价。 相似文献

We investigated the factorsstructuring lake shore bird assemblages of thenortheastern U.S.A. using data collected from 158 lakesbetween 1992 and 1994. The assemblage data wereaggregated and standardized to produce assemblagecompositions consisting of proportions of individualsemploying different foraging, dietary, and migratorystrategies. The assemblage data were then re-expressedusing compositional analysis techniques and subjectedto regression tree analysis to identify environmentalcorrelates over a range of scales. Regionally, humandensity in the watershed was the most importantpredictor for the foraging, dietary, and migratorycompositions. A combination of anthropogenic andnon-anthropogenic factors likely contributed to thesebroad-scale associations because land use was largelyconfounded with climate and geomorphology. Morelocally, associations with lake shoreresidential-urban development were identified as beingimportant for the foraging and dietary compositions,as were associations with lake shore wetlands, butonly contingent there being little human developmentpresent locally and regionally. Assemblages wereassociated with increasing local and regional humandevelopment such that: hawking, aerial foraging, andground gleaning individuals increased relative tohover-and-gleaners, foliage gleaners, and barkgleaners; omnivores increased relative toinsectivores; and residents increased relative toneotropical migrants. The observed changes in birdcommunity structure were consistent with declines inforest interior species relative to edge species inresponse to forest fragmentation and suggest thatanthropogenic factors have played a prominent role instructuring lake shore bird assemblages of this region. 相似文献

对洪泽湖鱼体中的Pb、Cd、Cu、Cr、Zn等5种重金属进行了测定,分析了不同重金属在鱼的组织器官中的含量分布情况,并重点探讨了重金属在鱼体内的富集规律。结果显示:同一类组织器官中重金属的含量、同一金属在不同组织器官中的分布、不同鱼类对同种金属元素的吸收积累存在显著差异,5种重金属的含量以肌肉中的含量最低;均值型指数法显示,鱼样中肌肉组织残毒污染较小,属于微污染到轻污染级别;污染负荷比说明洪泽湖鱼体残毒的主要污染因子是铅、镉。 相似文献
