Wetland use by waterbirds is highly dependent on water depth, and depth requirements generally vary among species. Furthermore, water depth within wetlands often varies greatly over time due to unpredictable hydrological events, making comparisons of waterbird abundance among wetlands difficult as effects of habitat variables and water depth are confounded. Species-specific relationships between bird abundance and water depth necessarily are non-linear; thus, we developed a methodology to correct waterbird abundance for variation in water depth, based on the non-parametric regression of these two variables. Accordingly, we used the difference between observed and predicted abundances from non-parametric regression (analogous to parametric residuals) as an estimate of bird abundance at equivalent water depths. We scaled this difference to levels of observed and predicted abundances using the formula: ((observed − predicted abundance)/(observed + predicted abundance)) × 100. This estimate also corresponds to the observed:predicted abundance ratio, which allows easy interpretation of results. We illustrated this methodology using two hypothetical species that differed in water depth and wetland preferences. Comparisons of wetlands, using both observed and relative corrected abundances, indicated that relative corrected abundance adequately separates the effect of water depth from the effect of wetlands. 相似文献

Extractable atrazine and its metabolites (hydroxyatrazine, deethylatrazine and deisopropylatrazine) were evaluated in agricultural
soils from the temperate humid zone (Galicia, NW Spain) under laboratory conditions. The experiment was performed with five
soils with different properties (organic C, soil texture and atrazine application history), both unamended and treated with
atrazine at field application rate. Measurements of the atrazine compounds were made at different time intervals (1, 3, 6,
9 and 12 weeks) during a 3-month incubation period. Results showed that only hydroxyatrazine was detected in the extractable
fraction of the unamended soils, with values remaining relatively constant throughout the incubation period. Atrazine addition
notably increased the concentration of the parent compound and its degradation products; deisopropylatrazine and hydroxyatrazine
were the main metabolites detected in the extractable fraction of the treated soils, whereas deethylatrazine was not detected.
After 7 days incubation, values of total extractable residues, expressed as percentage of initially added atrazine, ranged
from 75 to 86% (25–68% of atrazine, 7–11% of hydroxyatrazine and 9–57% of deisopropylatrazine). The values decreased rapidly
during the first 3 weeks of incubation, showing values of 2–8% in soils with higher atrazine application and from 28 to 30%
in soils with lower application history. At the end of the incubation, 2–8% of total extractable residues were still detected
(0–4% of atrazine, 2–3% of hydroxyatrazine and 0–2% of deisopropylatrazine), indicating a residual effect of atrazine addition.
These variations in the extractable fraction indicated that most added atrazine was rapidly degraded, especially in soils

Modeling estuarine-shelf exchanges in a deltaic estuary: Implications for coastal carbon budgets and hypoxia 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The export of wetland-derived materials to the coastal ocean (i.e., the “Outwelling” hypothesis) has received considerable attention over the past several decades. While a number of studies have shown that estuaries export appreciable amounts of nutrients and carbon, few studies have attempted to estimate the importance of estuarine sources for the coastal carbon budgets in river-dominated coastal ecosystems. A novel tidal prism model was developed to examine estuarine-shelf exchanges in the Barataria estuary, a deltaic estuary located in the north-central Gulf of Mexico. This estuary has been the site of a massive wetland loss, and it has been hypothesized that carbon export from the eroding coastal wetlands supports the development of a large hypoxic zone in the coastal Gulf of Mexico. The model results show that the Barataria estuary receives nitrogen through the tidal passes and releases carbon to the coastal ocean. The mean calculated tidal water discharge of 6930 m3 s−1 is equivalent to about 43% of the lower Mississippi River discharge. The annual total organic carbon (TOC) export is 109 million kg, or 57 gC m2 yr−1 when prorated to the total water area of the estuary. This carbon export is equivalent to a loss of 0.5 m of wetland soil horizon over an area of 8.4 km2, and accounts for about 34% of the observed annual wetland loss in the estuary between 1978 and 2000. Compared to the lower Mississippi River, the Barataria estuary appears to be a very small source of TOC for the northern Gulf of Mexico (2.7% of riverine TOC), and is unlikely to have a significant influence on the development of the Gulf's hypoxia. 相似文献

Small fishes in seasonally flooded environments such as the Everglades are capable of spreading into newly flooded areas and building up substantial biomass. Passive drift cannot account for the rapidity of observed population expansions. To test the ‘reaction-diffusion’ mechanism for spread of the fish, we estimated their diffusion coefficient and applied a reaction-diffusion model. This mechanism was also too weak to account for the spatial dynamics. Two other hypotheses were tested through modeling. The first—the ‘refuge mechanism’—hypothesizes that small remnant populations of small fishes survive the dry season in small permanent bodies of water (refugia), sites where the water level is otherwise below the surface. The second mechanism, which we call the ‘dynamic ideal free distribution mechanism’ is that consumption by the fish creates a prey density gradient and that fish taxis along this gradient can lead to rapid population expansion in space. We examined the two alternatives and concluded that although refugia may play an important role in recolonization by the fish population during reflooding, only the second, taxis in the direction of the flooding front, seems capable of matching empirical observations. 土壤活性碳酸钙是指土壤中不稳定的、处于自由态、易发生化学反应的那部分碳酸钙。研究用KMnO4滴定法测定了内蒙古栗钙土的活性碳酸钙质量分数,目的是分析土地利用方式对土壤活性碳酸钙的影响。结果表明:201个土壤样品中活性碳酸钙质量分数的均值为20.57g·kg-1,变幅为0.63~135.59g·kg-1;不同土地利用方式下土壤活性碳酸钙质量分数的大小顺序为:退耕地锡林草地乌盟草地耕地;不同土地利用方式下土壤活性碳酸钙质量分数与碳酸钙质量分数均呈现极显著正相关关系;退耕地、乌盟草地、锡林草地的土壤活性碳酸钙质量分数分别与pH以及土壤粘粒质量分数呈现极显著正相关关系,而耕地的则未达到显著性水平,说明土地利用方式影响了土壤中碳酸钙的活性。土壤总碳酸钙质量分数(n=201)、pH(n=198)和粘粒质量分数(n=191)分别可以解释活性碳酸钙73%、13%和27%的变异。碳酸钙活度指数(CAI)包括了碳酸钙质量分数、pH和粘粒质量分数(CAI=pH+0.01wCaCO3+0.11wClay),是基于每个变量对活性碳酸钙的相对影响而构建的,可以解释活性碳酸钙36%的变异(n=191)。 相似文献

调查了13座不同类型的危险废物焚烧设施及二噁英类排放模式及部分设施土壤的污染水平.结果表明,排放浓度同焚烧处理量没有显著的关系.4—6氯代PCDD/Fs和7—8氯代PCDD/Fs呈现出了不同的排放特征.4—6氯代PCDF/PCDD比值为60.58±1.98(95%置信区间),较通用的总PCDF/总PCDD比值更适于描述危险废物焚烧设施二噁英排放的特征.使用PCA及聚类分析方法将设施排放模式归类为3种模式.分布模式同焚烧设施炉型、处理量以及尾气处理方式等因素相关性并不显著.2,3,4,7,8PeCDF对I-TEQ的贡献为35%—45%,并与I-TEQ具有很高的相关性.厂区土壤中二噁英浓度水平约为8—14ngI-TEQ.kg-1,周边土壤浓度为1—4ngI-TEQ.kg-1左右,均处于较低水平,调查设施周边土壤的使用目前尚无明显风险.危险废物设施对周边土壤的环境风险需要进一步评估. 相似文献

以野外样地调查和室内分析法研究了不同退化演替阶段高寒小嵩草草甸的植被根系空间变化和土壤环境因子间的关系。结果表明,不同退化演替阶段高寒小嵩草草甸群落植被根系和蕴育植被根系的土壤量发生了明显的变化。特别是0~10 cm土层的植被根系在重度退化阶段显著高于其它退化演替阶段(P〈0.05),而蕴育植被根系的"载体"量在重度退化阶段显著低于其它退化演替阶段(P〈0.05),根土比(根和土的重量比)明显高于其它退化演替阶段(P〈0.05);随着退化演替阶段的进行,高寒小嵩草草甸群落物种数、地上部分、植被根系锐减,群落结构和功能明显发生变化;不同退化演替阶段,植被根系(0~40 cm)的垂直分布、根土比与土壤容重、土壤含水量以及土壤中N、P含量存在一定的相关性;不同退化演替阶段高寒小嵩草草甸土壤理化特性的变化影响草地群落地上部分和植被根系;土壤的稳定性是草地生产稳定和恢复的重要因素,在评价与改良退化草地时,要充分了解土壤的退化程度。在高寒草甸地下根系取样方法难以统一,而且土壤表层根系和土壤很难难以分离,加之根系采样破坏性大、工作量大,根土比可能是指示高寒草甸退化程度相对可靠的量化指标。 相似文献

The species diversity and structure of the tree, herb–dwarf shrub, and moss–lichen layers in the biogeocenoses (BGCs) of pine forests of the Kola Peninsula were analyzed in the zone affected by the Pechenganikel Combined Works.
