Risk assessment of PCDD/Fs levels in human tissues related to major food items based on chemical analyses and micro-EROD assay 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Nine groups of food items (freshwater fish, marine fish, pork, chicken, chicken eggs, leafy, non-leafy vegetables, rice and flour) and three types of human samples (human milk, maternal serum and cord serum) were collected for the analysis of PCDD/Fs. Results of chemical analysis revealed PCDD/Fs concentrations (pg g− 1 fat) in the following ascending order: pork (0.289 pg g− 1 fat), grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus) (freshwater fish) (0.407), golden thread (Nemipterus virgatus) (marine fish) (0.511), chicken (0.529), mandarin fish (Siniperca kneri) (marine fish) (0.535), chicken egg (0.552), and snubnose pompano (Trachinotus blochii) (marine fish) (1.219). The results of micro-EROD assay showed relatively higher PCDD/Fs levels in fish (2.65 pg g− 1 fat) when compared with pork (0.47), eggs (0.33), chicken (0.13), flour (0.07), vegetables (0.05 pg g− 1 wet wt) and rice (0.05). The estimated average daily intake of PCDD/Fs of 3.51 pg EROD-TEQ/kg bw/day was within the range of WHO Tolerable Daily Intake (1–4 pg WHO-TEQ/kg bw/day) and was higher than the Provisional Tolerable Daily Intake (PMTL) (70 pg for dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs) recommended by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) [Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), Summary and conclusions of the fifty-seventh meeting, JECFA, 2001.]. Nevertheless, the current findings were significantly lower than the TDI (14 pg WHO-TEQ/kg/bw/day) recommended by the Scientific Committee on Food of the Europe Commission [European Scientific Committee on Food (EU SCF), Opinions on the SCF on the risk assessment of dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs in food, 2000.]. However, it should be noted that micro-EROD assay overestimates the PCDD/Fs levels by 2 to 7 folds which may also amplify the PCDD/Fs levels accordingly. Although the levels of PCDD/Fs obtained from micro-EROD assay were much higher than those obtained by chemical analysis by 2 to 7 folds, it provides a cost-effective and rapid screening of dioxin levels in food and human samples. 相似文献

阐述了从河川沙塘鳢(Odontobutis potamophila)卵巢中提取卵黄磷脂蛋白,以及制备兔抗卵黄磷脂蛋白抗血清的过程,介绍了用此血清建立的河川沙塘鳢血清卵黄蛋白原间接竞争ELISA检测方法.以卵黄磷脂蛋白为参照,此法的最低检测质量浓度为40μg/L,最佳工作范围为160 μg/L-1 280 μg/L.使用此法检测雌二醇(E2)、壬基酚(NP)对雄性河川沙塘鳢的卵黄蛋白原诱导效果时,前者的最低有效质量浓度是0.001 mg/kg(E2/鱼质量),后者的最低有效质量浓度是50 mg/kg(NP/鱼质量).结果表明,200 mg/kg(NP/鱼质量)NP可引起雄性河川沙塘鳢血清卵黄蛋白原显著倍增.在太湖东山水域进行为期1年的生态调查时,发现3、4月份期间,曾有50%和35%样品呈阳性. 相似文献

Spatial-Scale Effects on Relative Importance of Physical Habitat Predictors of Stream Health 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A common theme in recent landscape studies is the comparison of riparian and watershed land use as predictors of stream health.
The objective of this study was to compare the performance of reach-scale habitat and remotely assessed watershed-scale habitat
as predictors of stream health over varying spatial extents. Stream health was measured with scores on a fish index of biotic
integrity (IBI) using data from 95 stream reaches in the Eastern Corn Belt Plain (ECBP) ecoregion of Indiana. Watersheds hierarchically
nested within the ecoregion were used to regroup sampling locations to represent varying spatial extents. Reach habitat was
represented by metrics of a qualitative habitat evaluation index, whereas watershed variables were represented by riparian
forest, geomorphology, and hydrologic indices. The importance of reach- versus watershed-scale variables was measured by multiple
regression model adjusted-R2 and best subset comparisons in the general linear statistical framework. Watershed models had adjusted-R2 ranging from 0.25 to 0.93 and reach models had adjusted-R2 ranging from 0.09 to 0.86. Better-fitting models were associated with smaller spatial extents. Watershed models explained
about 15% more variation in IBI scores than reach models on average. Variety of surficial geology contributed to decline in
model predictive power. Results should be interpreted bearing in mind that reach habitat was qualitatively measured and only
fish assemblages were used to measure stream health. Riparian forest and length-slope (LS) factor were the most important
watershed-scale variables and mostly positively correlated with IBI scores, whereas substrate and riffle-pool quality were

Multimetric indices of biotic integrity (IBIs) are commonly used to assess condition of stream fish assemblages, but their ability to monitor trends within streams over time is largely unknown. We assessed the trend detection ability of two IBI formulations (one with traditional scoring and metrics, and one with nontraditional scoring and region-specific metrics) and of similarity and diversity indices using simulations that progressively altered the fish assemblages of 39 streams in the United States mid-Atlantic Highlands region. We also assessed responses to simulated 50% variability in fish abundances, as a measure of background noise. Fish assemblage indices responded little to changes that affected all species proportionally despite substantial changes in total fish number. Assemblage indices responded better to scenarios that differentially affected fish species, either according to life history traits or by increasing dominance of already common species, but even these changes took some time to detect relative to background variability levels. Ordinations of stream fish assemblage data suggested that differences among sites were maintained even after substantial alterations of fish composition within sites. IBIs are designed to detect broad assemblage differences among sites while downplaying abundance changes and variability increases that were the first indications of within-site changes, and they appear more suited to detecting large departures from natural fish assemblages than for monitoring gradual changes such as those our simulations produced. Inferences about causes of assemblage changes should be made with caution because of correlations among species traits and interdependence among IBI component metrics. The biodiversity of many Brazilian rivers is seriously threatened by industrial and municipal pollution, and Rio Paraiba do Sul, located between two major industrial centers is one example of this situation. A survey of the fish assemblage was conducted from October 1998 to September 1999 and the data were used to develop an index of biotic integrity (IBI). We sampled three zones in bracketing a large urban–industrial complex to evaluate water quality changes and the usefulness of the IBI as a monitoring tool. Water quality was classified as poor upstream of the effluent discharges, very poor near the discharges, and poor–fair downstream of the discharges, with this latter situation revealing the current biological capacity of the river. Physical and chemical habitat characteristics were also measured at each site to construct an independent environmental index to validate the IBI. The habitat and IBI indices were highly correlated, suggesting this IBI would be applicable to other large rivers in southeast Brazil. 相似文献

Effective assessments of aquatic ecosystem recovery require ecologically sound endpoints against which progress can be measured.
Site-by-site assessments of end points and potential recovery trajectories are impractical for water resource agencies. Because
of the natural variation among ecosystems, applying a single set of criteria nationwide is not appropriate either. This article
demonstrates the use of a regional framework for stratifying natural variation and for determining realistic biological criteria.
A map of ecoregions, drawn from landscape characteristics, formed the framework for three statewide case studies and three
separate studies at the river basin scale. Statewide studies of Arkansas, Ohio, and Oregon, USA, streams demonstrated patterns
in fish assemblages corresponding to ecoregions. The river basin study in Oregon revealed a distinct change at the ecoregion
boundary; those in Ohio and Montana demonstrated the value of regional reference sites for assessing recovery. Ecoregions
can be used to facilitate the application of ecological theory and to set recovery criteria for various regions of states
or of the country. Such a framework provides an important alternative between site-specific and national approaches for assessing

Although the utility of using either fish or benthic invertebrates as biomonitors of stream quality has been clearly shown, there is little comparative information on the usefulness of the groups in any particular situation. We compared fish to invertebrate assemblages in their ability to reflect habitat quality of sediment-impacted streams in agricultural regions of northeast Missouri, USA. Habitat quality was measured by a combination of substrate composition, riparian type, buffer strip width, and land use. Invertebrates were more sensitive to habitat differences when structural measurements, species diversity and ordination, were used. Incorporating ecological measurements, by using the Index of Biological Integrity, increased the information obtained from the fish assemblage. The differential response of the two groups was attributed to the more direct impact of sediments on invertebrate life requisites; the impact of sedimentation on fish is considered more indirect and complex, affecting feeding and reproductive mechanisms.The Unit is sponsored by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the University of Missouri. 相似文献

In the management of conflicting dual-resource systems such as continental shelf hydrocarbon extraction and commercial fishing operations, it is necessary to consider the possibility of repeated impact events. The potential magnitude of impacts on Georges Bank fisheries of single oil spill events has been addressed in detail elsewhere (Reed and Spaulding 1979, Reed and others 1980, Spaulding and others 1982). An oil spill-fishery impact estimation model, implemented for the Georges Bank cod fishery (Reed and others 1980), has been used to investigate the potential for nonlinear biological responses to periodic and nonperiodic repetitive spill events. Prerecruit mortality equations incorporating young-of-the-year as well as adult-juvenile interactions, perform acceptably vis-à-vis the historical catch record, but show highly variable behavior under recruitment reductions induced by periodic simulated spills. The results demonstrate the importance of selecting mathematical representations of biological and physical processes underlying population dynamics such that characteristic system behavior is adequately represented in both the time and frequency domains. 相似文献

climate change on lake DO characteristics, we present herein DO information simulated, respectively, with inputs of past climate
conditions (1961–1979) and with a projected 2 × CO2 climate scenario, as well as differences of those values. Specific parameters obtained were minimum under-ice and lake bottom
DO concentration in winter, duration of under-ice anoxic conditions (<0.1 mg/liter) and low DO conditions (<3 mg/liter), and
percentage of anoxic and low DO lake volumes during the ice cover period. Under current climate conditions winterkill occurs
typically in shallow eutrophic lakes of the northern contiguous United States. Climate warming is projected to eliminate winterkill
in these lakes. This would be a positive effect of climate warming. Fish species under ice may still experience periods of
stress and zero growth due to low DO (<3 mg/liter) conditions under projected climate warming. 相似文献
