Young female rats were orally dosed with either 1 or 100 mg zearalenone kg-1 body weight; zearalenone and metabolites were measured in a 96-h collection of urine and feces by HPLC analysis. Dose had little effect on metabolites formed, or excretion route. In both treatment groups, about 55% of the oral dose was excreted in the feces, while the urine was also a major route of excretion accounting for 15-20% of the administered dose. Zearalenone and metabolites were excreted mainly in the free form, with the production of alpha-zearalenol, the most potent estrogenic metabolite, being greater than 10% of the zearalenone dose. 相似文献

Arbuckle, Jr., J. Gordon, 2012. Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loans and Landowner Investments in Agricultural Best Management Practices in Iowa. Journal of the American Water Resources Association (JAWRA) 1‐9. DOI: 10.1111/j.1752‐1688.2012.00688.x Abstract: Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) loan programs for water quality have traditionally funded infrastructure projects at the community, municipality, or state level. They are increasingly being used to support individual landowner adoption of agricultural best management practices (BMPs) for nonpoint source pollution abatement. In 2005, the Iowa CWSRF initiated the Local Water Protection Program (LWPP) to increase the scope, scale, and rate of agricultural BMP establishment. This research examines the effectiveness of that program through a comparison of survey data from LWPP participants and state cost‐share recipients who were eligible for loans, but did not take them. Loan recipients’ assessments of the program were overwhelmingly positive, with near‐universal satisfaction with both the loan product and process. Results of statistical analyses indicate that loan recipients invested substantially more in conservation than nonrecipients. Evidence suggests that by helping program participants to overcome financial constraints, loans are facilitating larger and accelerated investments in conservation. Although findings indicate that conservation loans can play an important role in funding conservation, loan recipients also still depend on cost‐share. Loans are not necessarily a substitute for traditional forms of conservation funding, but rather another tool that landowners and conservation professionals can employ to facilitate investments in BMPs. 相似文献

When native grassland catchments are converted to pasture, the main effects on stream physicochemistry are usually related
to increased nutrient concentrations and fine-sediment input. We predicted that increasing nutrient concentrations would produce
a subsidy-stress response (where several ecological metrics first increase and then decrease at higher concentrations) and
that increasing sediment cover of the streambed would produce a linear decline in stream health. We predicted that the net
effect of agricultural development, estimated as percentage pastoral land cover, would have a nonlinear subsidy-stress or
threshold pattern. In our suite of 21 New Zealand streams, epilithic algal biomass and invertebrate density and biomass were
higher in catchments with a higher proportion of pastoral land cover, responding mainly to increased nutrient concentration.
Invertebrate species richness had a linear, negative relationship with fine-sediment cover but was unrelated to nutrients
or pastoral land cover. In accord with our predictions, several invertebrate stream health metrics (Ephemeroptera–Plecoptera–Trichoptera
density and richness, New Zealand Macroinvertebrate Community Index, and percent abundance of noninsect taxa) had nonlinear
relationships with pastoral land cover and nutrients. Most invertebrate health metrics usually had linear negative relationships
with fine-sediment cover. In this region, stream health, as indicated by macroinvertebrates, primarily followed a subsidy-stress
pattern with increasing pastoral development; management of these streams should focus on limiting development beyond the
point where negative effects are seen. 相似文献

We investigated the effects of a warmer climate, and seasonal trends, on the fate of oil spilled in the Arctic. Three well blowout scenarios, two shipping accidents and a pipeline rupture were considered. We used ensembles of numerical simulations, using the OSCAR oil spill model, with environmental data for the periods 2009–2012 and 2050–2053 (representing a warmer future) as inputs to the model. Future atmospheric forcing was based on the IPCC’s A1B scenario, with the ocean data generated by the hydrodynamic model SINMOD. We found differences in “typical” outcome of a spill in a warmer future compared to the present, mainly due to a longer season of open water. We have demonstrated that ice cover is extremely important for predicting the fate of an Arctic oil spill, and find that oil spills in a warming climate will in some cases result in greater areal coverage and shoreline exposure. 相似文献

Renewed political and commercial interest in the resources of the Arctic, the reduction in the extent and thickness of sea ice, and the recent failings that led to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, have prompted industry and its regulatory agencies, governments, local communities and NGOs to look at all aspects of Arctic oil spill countermeasures with fresh eyes. This paper provides an overview of present oil spill response capabilities and technologies for ice-covered waters, as well as under potential future conditions driven by a changing climate. Though not an exhaustive review, we provide the key research results for oil spill response from knowledge accumulated over many decades, including significant review papers that have been prepared as well as results from recent laboratory tests, field programmes and modelling work. The three main areas covered by the review are as follows: oil weathering and modelling; oil detection and monitoring; and oil spill response techniques. 相似文献
