An experiment was carried out to study the degradation of commercially produced chlornitrofen (2,4,6-trichlorophenyl p-nitrophenyl ether; CNP) herbicide contaminated with 1,3,6,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (1,3,6,8-tetraCDD) by means of the white rot fungus Phlebia brevispora TMIC33929. Recently, we reported that 1,3,6,8-tetraCDD was degraded by P. brevispora. In the degradation experiment using CNP standard compounds, CNP was transformed into several metabolites including monomethoxylated compounds and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol by P. brevispora. When the mixture of CNP and 1,3,6,8-tetraCDD was treated with P. brevispora, each substrate was degraded and metabolites were detected. The treatment of the commercially produced CNP herbicide by P. brevispora led to the degradation of CNP and contaminated 1,3,6,8-tetraCDD as a result. These results indicate that P. brevispora can degrade CNP and 1,3,6,8-tetraCDD at the same time, and that biological treatment of commercially produced CNP herbicide is possible. 相似文献

The present study elucidated the biomagnification profiles of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) through a tropical aquatic food web of Vietnam based on trophic characterization using stable nitrogen analysis. Various biological samples collected from the main stream of the Mekong Delta were provided for the analysis for both POPs, and stable nitrogen and carbon isotope ratios. Of the POPs analyzed, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane and its metabolites (DDTs) were the predominant contaminants with concentrations ranging from 0.058 to 12 ng/g wet weight, followed by polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at 0.017-8.9 ng/g, chlordane compounds (CHLs) at 0.0043-0.76 ng/g, tris-4-chlorophenyl methane (TCPMe) at N.D.-0.26 ng/g, hexachlorocyclohexane isomers (HCHs) at N.D.-0.20 ng/g and hexachlorobenzene (HCB) at 0.0021-0.096 ng/g. Significant positive increases of concentrations in DDTs, CHLs, and TCPMe against the stable nitrogen ratio (delta(15)N) were detected, while, concentrations of HCHs and HCB showed no significant increase. The slopes of the regression equations between the log-transformed concentrations of these POPs and delta(15)N were used as indices of biomagnification. The slopes of the POPs for which positive biomagnification was detected ranged from 0.149 to 0.177 on a wet weight basis. The slopes of DDTs and CHLs were less than those reported for a marine food web of the Arctic Ocean, indicating that less biomagnification had occurred in the tropical food web. Of the isomers of CHLs, unlike the studies of the Arctic Ocean, oxychlordane did not undergo significant biomagnification through the food web of the Mekong Delta. This difference is considered to be due to a lack of marine mammals, which might metabolize cis- and trans-chlordane to oxychlordane, in the Mekong Delta ecosystem. Dietary choices largely affect human-induced reactive nitrogen accumulation in the environment and resultant environmental problems. A nitrogen footprint (NF) is an indicator of how an individual’s consumption patterns impact nitrogen pollution. Here, we examined the impact of changes in the Japanese diet from 1961 to 2011 and the effect of alternative diets (the recommended protein diet, a pescetarian diet, a low-NF food diet, and a balanced Japanese diet) on the food NF. The annual per capita Japanese food NF has increased by 55% as a result of dietary changes since 1961. The 1975 Japanese diet, a balanced omnivorous diet that reportedly delays senescence, with a protein content similar to the current level, reduced the current food NF (15.2 kg N) to 12.6 kg N, which is comparable to the level in the recommended protein diet (12.3 kg N). These findings will help consumers make dietary choices to reduce their impacts on nitrogen pollution. 相似文献

Geographical variations in the trophic ecology of Japanese anchovy, Engraulis

Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios of Japanese anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) and their stomach contents were examined and compared among various regions around Japan. Geographical variations in the
isotope ratios were found between inshore and Pacific offshore regions. While most of the anchovy samples had isotope ratios
around −17.6‰ for δ13C and 10.0‰ for δ15N as median values, higher (more enriched) isotope values were found in the anchovy sampled from inshore regions. On the contrary,
lower (more depleted) values were found mostly in the anchovy from the Pacific offshore region including the Kuroshio Extension
and Kuroshio-Oyashio transition zones. Higher carbon isotope ratios in the inshore regions may reflect a carbon source from
benthic primary producers in addition to phytoplankton possibly through the consumption of the larvae of benthic organisms
such as bivalves or decapods, which were found in the stomach contents of the inshore anchovy. Variations in the nitrogen
isotope ratio may reflect not only differences in the trophic level of prey species, but also variations in the baseline level
of food webs. Stable isotope ratios are potentially a useful tool for understanding the stock/population structure and migration
of anchovy. The present findings indicate the potential importance of the “inshore–offshore” variations in the biology of
Japanese anchovy populations in the northwestern Pacific waters. 相似文献

The survival rates were studied of fertilized eggs, larvae, fry, and adults of pale chub Zacco platypus (Temminck and Schlegel) exposed to various concentrations of ammonia. There was a decrease in hatching rate and an increase in deformed alevins at a concentration of 0.9 mg liter(-1) of ammonia. All alevins were deformed at a concentration of 1.6 mg liter(-1) of ammonia and no eggs hatched at a concentration of 3.1 mg liter(-1) of ammonia. No larvae survived for 84, 24 and 12 h at concentrations of 1.2, 2.0 and 4.7 mg liter(-1) of ammonia, respectively. Eighty percent of the fry died after 168 h and no fry survived for 24 h at concentrations of 1.6 and 2.1 mg liter(-1) of ammonia, respectively. Eighty percent of the adults died after 24 h and no adult survived for 12 h at concentrations of 1.0 and 1.9 mg liter(-1), respectively. Larger adults were the most susceptible to ammonia. The order of resistance to ammonia was eggs, fry, larvae, and adults. 相似文献

White-streaked grouper (Epinephelus ongus) is an important fishery target that forms fish spawning aggregations (FSAs) at specific spawning grounds. The aims of the present study were to investigate migration behavior and returning behavior in terms of FSA using acoustic telemetry. Among the 30 specimens tracked, three types of movement pattern were observed: type 1, high site fidelity at the release area before the spawning period, migration to the spawning ground during the spawning period and return to the release area just after the spawning period (17 specimens); type 2, high site fidelity at the release area, disappearance from the area during the spawning period but was not detected at the spawning ground and return to the release area (8 specimens); and type 3, high site fidelity at the release area was observed before, during and after the spawning period (5 specimens). For the 17 specimens that were categorized into type 1, the dates of departure from their release area and the dates of return to the release area of males were, respectively, significantly earlier and later than those of females. The duration between the departure date and the return date (“duration away”) of males was significantly longer than that of females. The duration away tended to be positively related to the condition factor. All 25 specimens that were categorized as type 1 and type 2 showed returning behaviors to the release area. 相似文献

Analysis and prediction of flow from local source in a river basin using a Neuro-fuzzy modeling tool 总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7
Traditionally, the multiple linear regression technique has been one of the most widely used models in simulating hydrological time series. However, when the nonlinear phenomenon is significant, the multiple linear will fail to develop an appropriate predictive model. Recently, neuro-fuzzy systems have gained much popularity for calibrating the nonlinear relationships. This study evaluated the potential of a neuro-fuzzy system as an alternative to the traditional statistical regression technique for the purpose of predicting flow from a local source in a river basin. The effectiveness of the proposed identification technique was demonstrated through a simulation study of the river flow time series of the Citarum River in Indonesia. Furthermore, in order to provide the uncertainty associated with the estimation of river flow, a Monte Carlo simulation was performed. As a comparison, a multiple linear regression analysis that was being used by the Citarum River Authority was also examined using various statistical indices. The simulation results using 95% confidence intervals indicated that the neuro-fuzzy model consistently underestimated the magnitude of high flow while the low and medium flow magnitudes were estimated closer to the observed data. The comparison of the prediction accuracy of the neuro-fuzzy and linear regression methods indicated that the neuro-fuzzy approach was more accurate in predicting river flow dynamics. The neuro-fuzzy model was able to improve the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values of the multiple linear regression forecasts by about 13.52% and 10.73%, respectively. Considering its simplicity and efficiency, the neuro-fuzzy model is recommended as an alternative tool for modeling of flow dynamics in the study area. 相似文献

In order to control the emission of trace metals from combustion and incineration systems, sorbents and filters are sometimes
used. However, the effectiveness of these methods is greatly affected by the volatility of the metals and the way in which
they speciate during combustion, and afterwards during condensation, and physical or chemical sorption. Although there has
been a lot of research into the mechanisms by which trace metals speciate and subsequently appear in submicron particles,
the details of these mechanisms are not yet thoroughly understood. In this study, a chemical equilibrium approach was used
to qualitatively determine the speciation of lead, cadmium, and chromium in Cl and S environments. The reaction conditions
of sorbents were also tested numerically in order to understand the reaction behavior of metals with sorbents. This article
reports the influence of different concentrations of Cl and SO2 on Pb, Cd, and Cr speciation, as representatives of other trace elements. The partitioning behavior of metals during combustion
was also examined for Cl and S. The results obtained indicate that most metals exist in the vapor phase, even at low temperatures,
when chlorine is present. However, the addition of SO2 enhances the formation of the condensed phase, except at extremely high temperatures. This observation was not significant
for Cd or Cr. The higher the concentration of Cl the higher the retention of trace metals in the vapor phase, even at low
temperatures. Results from comparisons of the reactivities of mixed metals with Cl indicate that the presence of Fe limits
the reactivity of most trace metals with Cl except at higher concentrations. In the presence of Fe, alkali metals are the
first to react with Cl. If Fe is not present, most trace metals react with Cl, and the activity increases with higher concentrations.
On the other hand, the partitioning characteristics of S show that its presence generally means that metals remain in the
condensed phase. Sulfur is more reactive with alkali metals than with other trace metals.
