Salivirus/klassevirus sequences were identified in 7 (15 %) wastewater samples collected in Arizona monthly for a year, with the highest concentration of 2.28 × 105 and 2.46 × 104 copies/L in influent and effluent, respectively. This is the first report of quantification and genetic analysis of salivirus/klassevirus in water samples in the United States. 相似文献

The application of lime or liming materials to acid-soil grasslands might help mitigate soil acidity, a major constraint to forage productivity in many temperate mountainous grasslands. Nowadays, in these mountainous grasslands, it is essential to promote agricultural practices to increase forage yield and nutritive value while preserving biodiversity and agroecosystem functioning. Two different field experiments were conducted in the Gorbeia Natural Park, northern Spain: (i) one in a calcareous mountainous grassland (Arraba) and (ii) the other in a siliceous mountainous grassland (Kurtzegan) to study the effects of a single application of two liming products, i.e. 2429 kg lime (164.3% CaCO3) ha?1 and 4734 kg calcareous sand (84.3% CaCO3) ha?1, applied one month before the beginning of the sheep grazing season (May–October), on soil chemical (pH, organic C, total N, C/N ratio, %Al saturation, Olsen P, exchangeable K+ and Ca2+) and biological parameters (dehydrogenase, β-glucosidase, urease, acid phosphatase and arylsulphatase activity) as well as on botanical diversity (graminoids, forbs, shrubs) and forage yield and nutritive value (crude protein, modified acid detergent fibre, digestibility). Untreated control plots were also included in the experiment. Soil sampling was carried out at the end of the sheep grazing season (6 months after liming treatment), while botanical composition was determined one year after treatments application. Although no increase in soil pH was observed in Arraba, liming significantly increased dehydrogenase activity (an indicator of soil microbial activity) by 30.4 and 86.7% at Arraba and Kurtzegan site, respectively. Liming treatments significantly improved forage yield and nutritive value in Arraba but not in Kurtzegan. Furthermore, no differences in soil biological quality, evaluated using the “treated-soil quality index” as proposed in this work, were observed between treated and untreated soils, and between the two different lime treatments (lime, calcareous sand). It was concluded that, in acid-soil temperate mountainous grasslands, moderate liming treatments have no negative short-term effects either on soil quality or botanical composition, while resulting in improvements in forage yield and nutritive value under some conditions. 相似文献

Toilet solid waste samples collected from five outbreaks among rafters in the Grand Canyon were subjected to sequencing analysis of norovirus partial capsid gene. The results revealed that a GI.3 strain was associated with one outbreak, whereas the other outbreaks were caused by GII.5 whose sequences shared >98.9% homology. 相似文献

The scaling of metabolic rates with body mass is one of the best known and most studied characteristics of aquatic animals.
Herein, we studied how size is related to oxygen consumption, ammonia excretion, and ingestion rates in tropical (Octopus maya) and cold-water (Enteroctopus megalocyathus) cephalopod species in an attempt to understand how size affects their metabolism. We also looked at how cephalopod metabolisms
are modulated by temperature by constructing the relationship between metabolism and temperature for some benthic octopod
species. Finally, we estimated the energy balance for O. maya and E. megalocyathus in order to validate the use of this information for aquaculture or fisheries management. In both species, oxygen consumption
and ammonia excretion increased allometrically with increasing body weight (BW) expressed as Y = aBW
b
. For oxygen consumption, b was 0.71 and 0.69 for E. megalocyathus and O. maya, respectively, and for ammonia excretion it was 0.37 and 0.43. Both species had low O/N ratios, indicating an apparent dependence
on protein energy. The mean ingestion rates for E. megalocyathus (3.1 ± 0.2% its BW day−1) and O. maya (2.9 ± 0.5% its BW day−1) indicate that voracity, which is characteristic of cephalopods, could be independent of species. The scope for growth (P = I − (H + U + R) estimated for E. megalocyathus was 28% higher than that observed in O. maya (320 vs. 249 kJ day−1 kg−1). Thus, cold-water cephalopod species could be more efficient than tropical species. The protein and respiratory metabolisms
of O. maya, E. megalocyathus, and other octopod species are directly dependent on temperature. Our results offer complementary evidence that, as Clarke
(2004) stated, the metabolic response (R and U) cannot be determined mechanistically by temperature, as previously proposed (Gillooly et al. 2002). 相似文献

This study aims at establishing the maturation of the digestive system in Robsonella fontaniana by means of measuring the digestive enzyme activity in paralarvae after hatching. Different groups of newly hatched paralarvae were fed with Artemia sp. (FA), Lithodes santolla zoea (FL) or were starved to serve as negative control (ST), the experimental period lasted 27 days after hatching (DAH). The semi-quantitative assay api® ZYM (bioMérieux, France) was used to identify the pool of digestive enzymes present in paralarvae prior to selecting the specific enzymes acid phosphatase, total protease, trypsin and chymotrypsin for analysis. Mortality and larval protein content were also measured during the experiment. The survival of R. fontaniana hatchlings differed depending on the quality of the diet offered (ST < FA < FL), the same trend was observed with respect to paralarval protein content. Total protease and acid phosphatase activities were not related to either time of development or diet (P < 0.05). However, the activity of trypsin and chymotrypsin after DAH 10 was dependent on diet (P < 0.05). Paralarvae fed with Lithodes zoea (FL) performed better than paralarvae in the other two groups, exhibiting lower mortality, higher protein content and the highest proteolytic activity for trypsin and chymotrypsin. The results indicate that Lithodes-larvae are a better diet for R. fontaniana paralarvae than Artemia sp. 相似文献
