ABSTRACT: Simulation of a large stream-aquifer system in Nebraska has been accomplished for the period from 1975 to 2020 to determine effects of controls on ground water pumpage. Three scenarios tested consisted of average annual withdrawals of 15.2 ac-in/ac (FUTURE 1), 14.8 ac-in/ac (FUTURE 2), and 9.8 ac-in/ac (FUTURE 3). The highest quantity represents the historical tendency; while the 14.8 in. figure represents a slight reduction and also represents an equalization of irrigation application efficiencies throughout the area. The lowest figure represents a substantial increase in application efficiency. Comparisons between simulated ground water elevations indicate maximum savings of FUTURE 2 over FUTURE 1 of less than 8 ft. FUTURE 3 ft. FUTURE 3 levels are projected to be a maximum of approximately 13 ft. higher than FUTURE 1's. The relatively small savings from reductions in pumpage result primarily from recirculation effects. Differences between ground water contributions to stream flow are small for all scenarios. These contributions decrease with time and increasing pumpage amounts. Base flow rates at the end of the simulation are approximately 25 percent of those at the beginning.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to analyse the data structure of a large data set from rainwater samples collected during a long-term interval (1990-1997) by the Austrian Precipitation Monitoring Network. Eleven sampling sites from the network were chosen as data sources (chemical concentrations of major ions only) covering various location characteristics (height above sea level, rural and urban sampling positions, Alpine rim and Alpine valley disposition, etc.). The analytical results were treated by the application of already classical environmetric approaches, such as linear regression analysis, time-series analysis and principal components analysis (PCA). For most of the sampling sites, a distinct trend of acidity decrease of the wet precipitation was observed. An overall decrease in sulfate concentration for the whole period and all sites of 3.9% year(-1) (2.0 muequiv. L(-1) year(-1)) was found. The free acidity decrease for most of the sites was between 3.5 and 10.9% year(-1). No significant linear trends were found for nitrate. Base cations either decreased (mean percentage decrease for calcium was 5.4% year(-1) and for magnesium 4.4% year(-1)) or did not show any significant change (sodium, potassium). The overall decrease in ammonium concentration was 2.3% year(-1). Further, some typical "rural" (summer minima and winter maxima) and "urban" (winter minima and spring maxima) seasonal behaviour for the majority of the sites in consideration could be defined, indicating the influence of local emission sources. Several latent factors, named "anthropogenic", "crustal" and "mixed salt", were revealed by the multivariate modelling procedure (PCA) possessing a similar structure for most of the sites. The unavoidable exceptions observed were indications of the influence of sporadic local events (construction and agricultural activities, secondary emission sources, etc.), and an effort was made to explain these exceptions.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to determine the long-time trends in concentrations and depositions of major ions in wet precipitation samples collected at 11 sampling sites from the Austrian precipitation chemistry network in the period 1984-1999. The analytical results were treated by the use of least square linear regression method. It is shown that a serious decrease of sulfate (between 30% and 60% for the period) and hydrogen ion (between 60% and 102% for the period) concentrations and depositions is achieved at almost all sampling sites and in most of these cases the linear trend proves to be statistically significant. Nitrogen containing ions and base cations do not reveal a distinct trend of changing and in the majority of the sites the linear models are not adequate. In principle, an overall slight concentration and deposition decrease for these major ions is observed (up to 30% for the period of observation) but some substantial exceptions are also found (site Haunsberg or site Lobau). The changes in chloride concentration and deposition, too, do not indicate significant linear trend and, in general, are decreasing for the period of monitoring. In order to give some explanation of the exceptional behaviour of some of the major ions in several sites, an additional comparison with Austrian emission data (sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, ammonium) and with data from five EMEP sites from neighbouring countries is performed. A significant West-East trend of acidity increase is found as well as a good correlation with the emission trends. Therefore, both transboundary and specific local factors could be substantial factors in the wet precipitation chemistry in the region.  相似文献

In recent years, German laws pertaining to construction have been simplified with the goals of reducing administrative procedures and government expenditures. On the one hand, the new regulations are intended to simplify construction activities by the elimination of obstacles toward approval and by the simplification of governmental supervision procedures. On the other hand, a simplified approval process shifts the responsibility for compliance with building codes to the owners, consultants (architects, civil engineers, experts, etc.) and construction project managers. First experiences of damage to buildings show that streamlined construction approvals run the risk of neglecting basic geomorphologic and geologic fundamentals. Omissions are evident, which have led to failures at embankments and on building sites, causing considerable losses. The responsible administrations have reacted in different ways to the changed conditions, as far as they already are aware of the possible implications. In southern Lower Saxony State, the planning agencies have reacted to the growing responsibilities by attempting to determine at an early stage hazards in areas that are being developed. The practice aims to ensure that neither the planned construction activities nor the buildings themselves pose a threat for the residents. However, in the context of weighing these land-use decisions, it becomes apparent that in the future, administrative employees will have to be trained to foresee potential problems caused by the new regulations, while those affected by the decisions must receive advice on how to proceed. At the same time, latitudes and guidelines for dealing with geomorphologic hazards have to be defined.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of a warmer climate, and seasonal trends, on the fate of oil spilled in the Arctic. Three well blowout scenarios, two shipping accidents and a pipeline rupture were considered. We used ensembles of numerical simulations, using the OSCAR oil spill model, with environmental data for the periods 2009–2012 and 2050–2053 (representing a warmer future) as inputs to the model. Future atmospheric forcing was based on the IPCC’s A1B scenario, with the ocean data generated by the hydrodynamic model SINMOD. We found differences in “typical” outcome of a spill in a warmer future compared to the present, mainly due to a longer season of open water. We have demonstrated that ice cover is extremely important for predicting the fate of an Arctic oil spill, and find that oil spills in a warming climate will in some cases result in greater areal coverage and shoreline exposure.  相似文献

Excimer laser fragmentation-fluorescence spectroscopy (ELFFS) is shown to be an effective detection strategy for ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate particles at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. Following photofragmentation of the ammonium salt particle, fluorescence of the NH fragment is observed at 336 nm. The fluorescence signal is shown to depend linearly on particle surface area for laser intensities varying from 1.2 x 10(8) to 6 x 10(8) W/cm2. The 100 shot (1 s) detection limits for ammonium nitrate range from 20 ppb for 0.2 microm particles to 125 ppb for 0.8 microm particles, where these concentrations are expressed as moles of ammonium ion per mole of air. For ammonium sulfate, the 100 shot (1 s) detection limits vary from 60 ppb for 0.2 microm particles to 500 ppb for 1 microm particles. These detection limits are low enough to measure ammonium salt particles that form in the exhaust of combustion processes utilizing ammonia injection as a nitric oxide control strategy.  相似文献

Renewed political and commercial interest in the resources of the Arctic, the reduction in the extent and thickness of sea ice, and the recent failings that led to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, have prompted industry and its regulatory agencies, governments, local communities and NGOs to look at all aspects of Arctic oil spill countermeasures with fresh eyes. This paper provides an overview of present oil spill response capabilities and technologies for ice-covered waters, as well as under potential future conditions driven by a changing climate. Though not an exhaustive review, we provide the key research results for oil spill response from knowledge accumulated over many decades, including significant review papers that have been prepared as well as results from recent laboratory tests, field programmes and modelling work. The three main areas covered by the review are as follows: oil weathering and modelling; oil detection and monitoring; and oil spill response techniques.  相似文献
