Microphytoplankton data along the southern Tunisian coasts have been monitored weekly since 1995. This study used the data collected during the period 2000–2007 to determine the temporal variability patterns and to characterize the geographical structures of microphytoplankton populations. The methodological approach consisted in isolating the temporal variability common to all sampled sites and in analyzing the “residual” site-specific component. Multivariate ordination methods were used to determine the seasonal and interannual variability. The temporal pattern shared by all sites was highlighted and the seasonal cycle of the most frequent phytoplankton communities contrasted the diatoms winter-spring species to the dinoflagellates summer-fall species. Multitable comparison allowed the identification of three areas exhibiting similar phytoplankton population variability. The results, despite the coastal location of sampling sites, indicated that hydrodynamic and geomorphologic properties of the different areas as well as anthropogenic activities play a key role in the structure of the phytoplankton communities. 相似文献

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) are widely used for their whiteness and opacity in several applications such as food colorants, drug additives, biomedical ceramic, and implanted biomaterials. Research on the neurobiological response to orally administered TiO2 NPs is still limited. In our study, we investigate the effects of anatase TiO2 NPs on the brain of Wistar rats after oral intake. After daily intragastric administration of anatase TiO2 NPs (5–10 nm) at 0, 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg body weight (BW) for 60 days, the coefficient of the brain, acethylcholinesterase (AChE) activities, the level of interleukin 6 (IL-6), and the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) were assessed to quantify the brain damage. The results showed that high-dose anatase TiO2 NPs could induce a downregulated level of AChE activities and showed an increase in plasmatic IL-6 level as compared to the control group accompanied by a dose-dependent decrease inter-doses, associated to an increase in the cerebral IL-6 level as a response to a local inflammation in brain. Furthermore, we observed elevated levels of immunoreactivity to GFAP in rat cerebral cortex. Pot-culture experiments were conducted to evaluate the phytoremediation potential of a wetland plant species, Phragmites australis in cadmium (Cd) and pentachlorophenol (PCP) co-contaminated soil under glasshouse conditions for 70 days. The treatments included Cd (0, 5 and 50 mg kg?1) without or with PCP (50 and 250 mg kg?1). The results showed that growth of P. australis was significantly influenced by interaction of Cd and PCP, decreasing with either Cd or PCP additions. Plant biomass was inhibited and reduced by the rate of 89 and 92 % in the low and high Cd treatments and by 20 and 40 % in the low and high PCP treatments compared to the control. The mixture of low Cd and low PCP lessened Cd toxicity to plants, resulting in improved plant growth (by 144 %). Under the joint stress of the two contaminants, the ability of Cd uptake and translocation by P. australis was weak, and the BF and TF values were inferior to 1.0. A low proportion of the metal is found aboveground in comparison to roots, indicating a restriction on transport upwards and an excluding effect on Cd uptake. Thus, P. australis cannot be useful for phytoextraction. The removal rate of PCP increased significantly (70 %) in planted soil. Significant positive correlations were found between the DHA and the removal of PCP in planted soils which implied that plant root exudates promote the rhizosphere microorganisms and enzyme activity, thereby improving biodegradation of PCP. Based on results, P. australis cannot be effective for phytoremediation of soil co-contaminated with Cd and PCP. Further, high levels of pollutant hamper and eventually inhibit plant growth. Therefore, developing supplementary methods (e.g. exploring the partnership of plant–microbe) for either enhancing (phytoextraction) or reducing the bioavailability of contaminants in the rhizosphere (phytostabilization) as well as plant growth promoting could significantly improve the process of phytoremediation in co-contaminated soil. 相似文献

Young female rats were orally dosed with either 1 or 100 mg zearalenone kg-1 body weight; zearalenone and metabolites were measured in a 96-h collection of urine and feces by HPLC analysis. Dose had little effect on metabolites formed, or excretion route. In both treatment groups, about 55% of the oral dose was excreted in the feces, while the urine was also a major route of excretion accounting for 15-20% of the administered dose. Zearalenone and metabolites were excreted mainly in the free form, with the production of alpha-zearalenol, the most potent estrogenic metabolite, being greater than 10% of the zearalenone dose. 相似文献

The content of 30 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and the enantiomeric fractions of 10 chiral PCBs were determined in 17 infertile eggs from three different predatory bird species collected in Do?ana National Park (DNP, Spain) in the period 1999-2000. The highest PCB concentration was found in eggs from red kites (0.52-110 microg/g on a fresh weight basis, f.w.) followed by buzzard (0.08-13 microg/g f.w.) and booted eagle (0.10-1.5 microg/g f.w.). Seventy-five percent of the red kite eggs had PCB levels above 4.7 microg/g f.w., which is associated in the literature with reproductive failure. This could be related to the fact that red kite populations have decreased by more than 50% in the last five years in DNP. PCBs # 138, 153, and 180 were the most abundant in all cases. This is the first time that atropisomers of 10 chiral PCBs (PCBs # 45, 84, 91, 95, 132, 135, 136, 149, 174, and 176) in predatory bird eggs have been performed. The enantiomeric fractions (EFs) for most PCBs investigated were non-racemic (EF not = 0.5), ranging from 0.05 to 0.95. The results suggested that predatory birds, mainly red kite species, are highly polluted by PCBs, and PCBs # 95, 132, 135, 136, and 174 strongly deviate from the racemic-mixture values. 相似文献
