Chorionic villi were sampled from 125 women who requested prenatal diagnosis, either for genetic disorders or because of advanced maternal age. Of these, 105 samples were obtained by the transcervical route and 20 were obtained by the transabdominal approach. The sampling success rate was 97 per cent (122/125). The mean maternal age of the patients was 31 years (range 17–44) and the mean gestational age at which the chorionic villus sampling was performed was 10 weeks (range 7–13 weeks). Seventy-four of these diagnoses involved the use of DNA markers. The minimal size of the sample used for DNA diagnosis was 5 mg. Maternal contamination was detected in two samples. A diagnosis was provided on all but two samples. The fetal loss rate was high initially but fell to 1·9 per cent in 1988.  相似文献

Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) were proposed as a policy framework that could provide middle ground for meeting both the development and mitigation objectives in developing countries. While South Africa engaged actively with the NAMA terminology in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change negotiations, its engagement at the domestic level has been rather lacklustre. This presents an interesting paradox. The paper studies the interplay of international norms embodied in NAMAs with South Africa's domestic policy process. Disengagement and contestation around NAMAs in South Africa is played out at three stages: decision-making stage where the symptoms surrounding this contestation first emerge; policy formulation stage where NAMAs have to not only align with the National Development Plan but also compete with a predilection for domestically familiar terminology of flagships under the national climate policy; and finally the broader agenda-setting stage of policy process, where NAMAs have to prove useful in not only pursuing the developmental state agenda but also in tackling the underlying material factors that represent country's economic dependency on fossil fuels. NAMAs faced combined resistance from ideas and interests in various degrees at all these stages resulting in their disengagement.  相似文献

The chronic effect of an exposure to a sublethal concentration of commercial formulation of 4 organophosphorus insecticides such as birlane (chlorfenvinphos), gardona (tetrachlorvinphos), phosdrin (mevinphos) and malathion on midvitellogenic ovaries of Mystus vittatus was investigated using several histological and histochemical techniques. The loss of stage II and III oocytes accompanied by a significant decline in gonadosomatic index was recorded. The vitellogenesis in treated fishes was ceased as the oocytes did not advance to further stages as evidenced by the absence of lipid yolks and the lack of a PAS positive follicular layer. The RNA content of remaining stage I oocytes of exposed fishes resembled that of the stage I oocytes of the control fishes. The absence of delta 5-3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase suggested the lack of steroidogenesis. Reduced glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity was also observed. The significance of these observations has been discussed in light of available literature.  相似文献

A study of villus samples from eight random sites on five electively aborted chorion sacs was performed to determine any significant differences in yield, quality and composition of DNA, iduronate sulphate sulphatase activity and karyoptype status. The villi were also examined for their histological characteristics (e.g. stem, intermediate or terminal villi) and for HCG and BGP immuno-reactivities. The overall findings indicated no significant site to site variations in any of the parameters studied. It is therefore proposed that any villus should be equally suitable for prenatal diagnosis.  相似文献

The tropospheric sulfate radiative forcing has been calculated using an interactive chemistry scheme in LMD-GCM. To estimate the radiative forcing of sulfate aerosol on climate, a consistent interaction between atmospheric circulation and radiation computation has been allowed in LMD-GCM. The model results indicate that the change in the sulfate aerosols number concentration is negatively correlated to the indirect radiative forcing. The model simulated annual mean direct radiative forcing ranges from −0.1 to −1.2 W m−2, and indirect forcing ranges from −0.4 to −1.6 W m−2. The global annual mean direct effect estimated by the model is −0.48 W m−2, and that of indirect is −0.68 W m−2.  相似文献

The main objective of this study is to validate and inter-compare two Near-Real-Time Satellite Rainfall Estimates (NRT-SREs): INSAT Multispectral Rainfall Algorithm (IMSRA, simple blended product) and TMPA 3B42-RT V7 (3B42-RT, multisatellite product) across India. This study aims to provide some insight into the error characteristics of both the NRT-SREs to the algorithm developers and end users by inter-comparing the daily rainfall estimates during the southwest monsoon period of 2010–2013. This study utilizes various volumetric statistics and categorical statistics to understand and evaluate the performance of NRT-SREs in terms of both spatial and volumetric error characteristics (hit, miss, and false error) at different rainfall thresholds across different Köppen–Geiger climate regions of India using the gridded gauge data provided by Indian Meteorological Department as reference dataset. A detailed statistical evaluation shows that the 3B42-RT performs comparatively better than the IMSRA across India. The results indicate that both IMSRA and 3B42-RT have a general tendency of overestimating the low rainfall rates (0–2.5 mm/day) and underestimating the high rainfall rates (>?35.5 mm/day). At lower threshold values (0 and 2.5 mm/day), it is found that the miss error is dominant in IMSRA, whereas the false error is dominant in 3B42-RT. As the threshold increases (7.5 and 35.5 mm/day), both the miss and false errors increase in both SREs. Additionally, the spatial analysis of the results clearly indicate that the performance of the tested NRT-SREs is not uniform across different climatic regions, an important aspect to be considered for development/improvement of the tested NRT-SRE algorithms.  相似文献

Transport phases of four metals of geochemical and water quality importance were investigated in rivers around Jamshedpur. The metals iron, manganese, zinc and copper were partitioned into dissolved, adsorbed and or ion exchangeable, solid organic, oxide coating and crystalline phases applying filtration for the dissolved phase and a chemical fractionation scheme for the particulates. Iron and copper were transported mainly in the particulate phases at all sites, while manganese and zinc were found in the dissolved phase up to a hundred percent depending on the pH of water sample and pollution at the site concerned. Except copper more than 75 percent of all other three metals occurred in transport modes thought to be available to aqueous and biotic interactions. Copper was in available phases from 50 to 70 percent. The significance of metal partitioning as a factor in controlling metal availability and toxicity to biota is discussed.  相似文献
