In this presentation the results of an environmental study of New Karvali bay, in Kavala Gulf, North Greece, are announced. In the studied bay the main industrial activity is a Factory of Chemical Fertilizers (FCF) and its wastes have been discharged, practically without any treatment, to the sea. The study has shown that the concentrations of phosphates and nitrates in the area around the place of the waste ejection from the factory are relatively high. Other remarkable points of the study are the presence of fluoride anions in higher level than normal and the low concentration of heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Zn).  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The paper provides a summary of accomplished and ongoing activities in the field of motor vehicle emission modeling in Europe. These activities have led to the development of a system of methods and conesponding computer models that address all the issues related to motor vehicle emissions that are of interest to policy-makers, institutions, and the automotive and oil industries. The Coordination of Information on Air Emissions/Computer Program to Calculate Emissions from Road Traffic (CORLNAIR/COPERT) methodology for the estimation of emissions from road vehicles is presented and compared with other models. A COPERT-based approach for microscale traffic emission estimation, with direct application in regional and urban emission inventories, is outlined, and relevant case studies are briefly discussed. The FOREMOVE model, developed for forecasts of motor vehicle emissions, is presented, together with some results from its application in the European Auto/Oil program. Particular attention is given to modeling the deterioration of in-use vehicles. Finally, the major areas of further research in the field of vehicle emissions in Europe are indicated.  相似文献

This paper provides an overview and the main results of a study aiming to evaluate current and alternative inspection and maintenance (I/M) programs to control emissions from in-use cars in Europe. For this purpose, a large number of passenger cars from five countries (France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom) were tested according to a common test protocol that included a variety of driving cycles and short tests, both legislative and specifically developed for this exercise. Evaluation of all test results was conducted with the objective of defining effective I/M test procedures and examining the potential of periodic I/M programs to reduce pollutant emissions and improve fuel economy of in-use cars. The results indicate that the current idle test used for catalyst-equipped cars in Europe is probably ineffective, while short transient loaded testing was found to offer higher potential in environmental terms. Regarding conventional gasoline cars, it is concluded that the idle test is sufficient, provided that the CO cut point is reduced and an HC test is added at high idle. Finally, the effectiveness of the free acceleration smoke test for diesels is questioned, while a transient cycle with continuous opacity measurement was found to be very promising. A companion paper further uses these results to analyze the likely cost-effectiveness on a per-country basis and discusses the possible effect of maintenance on emissions.  相似文献

The application of tree species (leaves) as biomonitoring devices is studies by the use of cluster analysis. It is shown that the chemical analysis of leaf samples should be accompanied by a careful chemometrical data treatment in order to obtain a reliable information on the behaviour of various tree species to heavy metal exposure (8 trees for three heavy metals in twelve different places) in fall and spring season. Additionally, the distribution of the sampling sites is studied by the same approach and a commentary on the urban aspects of sampling is given.  相似文献

The commonest species of red, brown, and green macroalgae were sampled from a range of biotopes in the Aegean Sea and analysed for five different trace metals. Significant differences in metal concentrations were found among different seaweed species from the same biotope. The concentrations of metals in the various seaweed species may reflect their morphology, with those having a larger surface area having a greater internal content. Different species of seaweed have different affinities for different heavy metals. This may reflect competition between metals for binding or uptake sites in the seaweed. Comparing metal concentrations in algae among the studied sampling stations clearly indicates that the degree of accumulation depends not only on human activities but also on the geology of the specific area. While seaweed can be used successfully to assess the levels of heavy metals in the marine environment, not all elevated concentrations of heavy metals necessarily reflect increased levels of pollution. Indeed, the high concentrations of certain metals, e.g., Ni, found in our seaweed samples reflected the metaliferrous nature of the rock. It is therefore important to take account of a region's geology before attempting to interpret the data.  相似文献
