Data collected at one site in central Italy using the NC-S/NC-R clover (Trifolium repens) biotype system during 1997-2007 were analysed in order to assess: (a) its performance under Mediterranean conditions; (b) variations of ozone damage linked with meteorological conditions; (c) if critical level approach is a good predictor of ozone risk on vegetation. NC-S dry biomasses were systematically lower than those of NC-R, the mean ratio being 0.7. Relevant relationship between ozone visible injury and cumulated values of AOT40 were also reported. Temperature and number of rainy days were the most important factors associated with ozone presence and, as a consequence, with leaf injury index. Photosynthetic gas exchange properties indicate that NC-S has higher values of stomatal conductance.  相似文献

A survey, based on the use of vascular plants to describe the distribution of selected elements (21 in total) was performed in 11 sites in the area of Castelfiorentino (Tuscany, Central Italy) differing for land use, from urban to industrial and rural areas. Lettuce plants grown under standardized conditions were positively used as biodeposimeters of airborne trace elements. Washing was found to be highly significant in reducing concentrations of many elements in the samples, suggesting a general surface contamination of leaves. The typical crustal element Al showed good correlations with Co, Fe, Li and V; on the contrary, Zn and Cd were intercorrelated and showed no connection with crustal indicators. Lead was still a relevant environmental presence, as the experiments were carried out before the ban of leaded gasoline. Source apportionment by factor analysis put in evidence a major contribution of crustal materials, followed by man-related activities; a minor role was ascertained for marine aerosol. A comparison was made between analytical data of lettuce plants grown in our experimental sites and a bulk of commercial lettuce purchased at a local supermarket. It should be stressed how Cu concentrations of commercial material were significantly higher than those found in our plants; this is likely caused by phytosanitary treatments.  相似文献

A biennial integrated survey, based on the use of vascular plants for the bioindication of the effects of tropospheric ozone together with the use of automatic analysers of ozone, as well as the mapping of lichen biodiversity was performed in the area of Castelfiorentino (Tuscany, central Italy). Photochemically produced ozone proved to be a fundamental presence during the warm season, with maximum hourly means reaching 114 ppb, exceeding the information threshold as fixed by EU: the use of supersensitive tobacco Bel-W3 confirmed the opportunity of carrying out detailed cost-effective monitoring surveys. The potential for didactical and educational implications of this methodology are appealing. Critical levels set up for the protection of vegetation have exceeded considerably. The comparison of biomass productivity in sensitive and resistant individuals (NC-S and NC-R white clover clones, in the framework of an European network) provided evidence that ambient ozone levels are associated with relevant reduction (up to 30%) in the performance of sensitive material; effects on flowering were also pronounced. The economic assessment of such an impact deserves attention. Mapping of epiphytic lichen biodiversity – which has been used to monitor air quality worldwide – was not related to ozone geographical distribution as depicted by tobacco response.  相似文献

A simulated burning experiment was conducted in a tubular furnace system to examine the emission of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from the burning of rice and bean straw, and the influence of combustion parameters was investigated. Total emission amounts of 16 PAHs (∑PAHs) from the burning of rice and bean straw ranged from 9.29 to 23.6 μg g?1 and from 3.13 to 49.9 μg g?1, respectively, which increased with the increase of temperatures from 200 to 700 °C. The contribution of combustion to individual PAH yields was about 80.6–100%, which was generally increased with the increase of burning temperature. Moisture content in straw had a negative effect on PAH formation, especially on PAHs with low molecular weight. ∑PAHs emission amounts decreased by 78.2% for bean straw with a moisture content of 30% in comparison with that for dried straw. In addition, PAH emission amounts increased with the increase of O2 content in supplied air and then decreased, which showed a maximum emission at O2 content of 40%. The source fingerprint of PAHs in emission from straw burning was established, which showed that naphthalene accounted for 35.0 ± 7.4% of ∑PAHs. Based on the experimental data, emission amounts of ∑PAHs from the burning of rice and bean straw were estimated to be 320–357 and 32.5–76.0 tons to ambient air per year in China, respectively.  相似文献

Pristine alpine regions are ideal regions for investigating the long-range atmospheric transport and cold trapping effects of short chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs). The concentrations and alpine condensation of SCCPs were investigated in lichen samples collected from the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. The concentrations of SCCPs ranged from 3098 to 6999 ng/g lipid weight (lw) and appeared to have an increasing trend with altitude. For congeners, C10 dominated among all the congener groups. The different environmental behavior for different congener groups was closely related to their octanol-air partition coefficient (Koa). C10 congeners showed an increasing trend with altitude, whereas C13 congeners were negatively correlated with altitude. Volumetric bioconcentration factors (BCF) of SCCPs reached 8.71 in lichens, which were higher than other semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs) such as organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD). These results suggested that SCCPs were prone to accumulate in the lichen from the air and provided evidence for the role of lichens as a suitable atmospheric indicator in the Tibetan Plateau.  相似文献

An ambient air study was conducted inthe city of Florence, Italy, in the summer 1996.Tropospheric ozone was continuously monitored withautomatic analyzers in three stations, two located inthe urban area and one in the hilly surroundings(Settignano). A biomonitoring campaign based on thetobacco cv. Bel-W3 plants was performed in the samearea. The highest values were constantly recorded inthe Settignano station. The highest 1-hour meanrecorded was 197 nl/l; the accumulated exposure overa threshold of 40 nl/l (AOT40) was well above thecritical levels standards for protection of thevegetation. A consistent temporal variation wasobserved and July proved to be the month with thehighest ozone levels. Cumulative frequencydistribution of ozone maximum daily concentrationsexhibited a good fitting to log-normality. No`week-end effect was observed. Biomonitoring datawere in good agreement with chemico-physical ones.  相似文献
