A new record of the genus Veneriserva Rossi, 1984 (Polychaeta: Dorvilleidae) is reported, as an endosymbiont in the coelom of the polychaete Laetmonice producta Grube, 1877 (Aphroditidae) in the eastern Weddell Sea and off King George Island (Southern Ocean, Antarctica). The specimens studied were very similar to Veneriserva pygoclava Rossi, 1984; however, due to the greater morphological variability and larger dimensions of our specimens, as well as different host species and geographic locations, a new sub-species, V. pygoclava meridionalis, was erected. A total of 842 specimens of L. producta were examined, 163 of which hosted 209 symbionts (183 in the Weddell Sea samples and 26 in the King George Island samples). Symbiont prevalence was higher in the Weddell Sea samples, and increased with depth (max. 51% at stn 14, 850 m depth). Symbiont intensity was equal to one for 78% and to two for 19.6% of all hosts examined; a maximum of six symbionts per single host was observed. Mean symbiont density was equal to 0.36 and 0.07 for the Weddell Sea and King George Island host populations, respectively. A weak linear relationship was found between symbiont and host size. Eight symbiont specimens (all found at a single station, 850 m depth) were bearing eggs, ranging between 10 and 200 µm in diameter, while 13 specimens were observed in regeneration of the posterior part, suggesting the occurrence of both sexual and asexual reproduction. The way of feeding is still not clear; reduction of the jaw apparatus suggests a parasitic host-symbiont relationship, however, no evident damage was observed in the tissues of the host. These results point out that occurrence of polychaete endoparasites in large aphroditids may be a more frequent and widespread phenomenon than previously believed, and that more attention should be paid to this aspect also in temperate and tropical aphroditid species.  相似文献

Different types of materials used for dental prosthetics restoration, including feldspathic ceramics, glass ceramics, zirconia-based ceramics, alumina-based ceramics, and resin-based materials, were investigated with regard to content of natural radionuclides by means of thermoluminescence beta dosimetry and gamma spectrometry. The gross beta dose rate from feldspathic and glass ceramics was about ten times higher than the background measurement, whereas resin-based materials generated negligible beta dose rate, similarly to natural tooth samples. The specific activity of uranium and thorium was significantly below the levels found in the period when addition of uranium to dental porcelain materials was still permitted. The high-beta dose levels observed in feldspathic porcelains and glass ceramics are thus mainly ascribable to (40)K, naturally present in these specimens. Although the measured values are below the recommended limits, results indicate that patients with prostheses are subject to higher dose levels than other members of the population. Alumina- and zirconia-based ceramics might be a promising alternative, as they have generally lower beta dose rates than the conventional porcelain materials. However, the dosimetry results, which imply the presence of inhomogeneously distributed clusters of radionuclides in the sample matrix, and the still unsuitable structural properties call for further optimization of these materials.  相似文献

The fate of cyanides in soil is strongly influenced by the formation of Fe cyanides, which can interact with organic and inorganic colloids and precipitate as stable compounds. Scarce information is available on the capacity of humic acids to interact with cyano-complexes and thus affect the leaching and prevent the risk of contamination of watertable. Here we show that interaction between humic acids (HAs) and ferricyanide complex led to a formation of ferricyanide-humo micelles, and that the interaction did not imply changes in the original structure of ferricyanide complex.  相似文献

Knowledge of the level of natural uranium (U) in the human body is fundamental in order to estimate the potentially hazardous incorporation in accidentally exposed subjects. A constant monitoring of exposed workers needs reliable reference baseline values, which can be determined by measuring the U concentration in urine. ICPMS has proven to be a fast, reliable and highly sensitive technique for this purpose. Non-uniformity in the distribution of U levels in various regions and differences in dietary habits account for the significant regional variations of U concentration in urine in non-exposed subjects. In this paper, the determination of daily uranium urinary excretion levels in a group of 12 non-exposed subjects from Northern Italy is presented and compared to data present in the published literature and to values obtained in a larger group of German volunteers. The urinary U output values observed in the Italian subset are generally higher than the corresponding levels measured in other groups. This could be the result of a higher intake of U from liquids, as assessed by the determination of U concentration in drinking waters.  相似文献
