Land use in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh had undergone changes over the past several centuries. The landscape, which was mostly covered with forest with interspersed shifting cultivation plots until the beginning of the colonial period, has gradually changed into a landscape with a blend of land uses. Overall, the forest area has gradually declined, while the area under shifting cultivation and sedentary agriculture has expanded. The process of the change was multi-directional. National forestry, land use, land taxation, population migration policies, and development activities, such as construction of a hydroelectric dam and roads, played an important role in this process. Shifting cultivation had inflicted little damage on the forest until the beginning of the colonial period. The pace of deforestation accelerated with the nationalization of forests which abolished tribal people's customary use and management rights to the forest, and allowed large-scale commercial logging both legally and illegally. The pace was further intensified by the policy encouraging population migration to CHT and construction of a reservoir on the Karnafuli River. Efforts were made to replace shifting cultivation with more productive types of sedentary agriculture. However, much change could not take place in the absence of secure land rights, supportive trade policies, and the required support services and facilities, including infrastructure. Locationally suitable land use evolved in areas where transportation facilities were available and farmers were granted land title with the necessary extension services and credit facilities. These findings have important policy implications for the promotion of environmentally and economically sound land use in CHT.  相似文献

A new protocol for the online spectrophotometric determination of methamidophos has been developed. The method is based on online hydrolysis of methamidophos, and the resulting hydrolyzed product is reacted with sodium nitroproside to form a colored complex. The calibration curve is linear over the concentration range of 0.5–20 μgml?–?1, with a molar absorptivity of 2.5×104 L mol?1 cm?1. The method is fast and reproducible with a sample throughput of 90 samples/h. The method is successfully applied to formulations and real samples.  相似文献

A sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of ametryn in agricultural samples. The proposed method was based on reaction with pyridine and further coupling with sulfanilic acid to form a colored product. The absorbance was measured at 400 nm with a molar absorptivity of 2.1 × 105 L mol−1 cm−1. The method shows a linear range from 0.2–20 μg mL−1 with limit of detection and limit of quantification 0.16 and 0.54 μg mL−1, respectively. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of ametryn in sugarcane juice and commercial formulations after separation of ametryn from triazine herbicides based on solvent extraction. Recovery values were found to be in the range of 96.0 ± 0.2% to 98.4 ± 0.1%.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new stormwater quality improvement device, called the "Green Gully" that collects, purifies, and reuses stormwater throughout an automated system. The working principal of the Green Gully is divided into two parts. Firstly, diverting stormwater from roadways to the diverter channel by filtering litter and secondly, watering the gardens and roadside plants with the stormwater that is collected from diverter channel. Stormwater treatment is an important step before reusing the water for gardening purpose. Different treatment levels (primary, secondary, and tertiary) are applied depending on the application to make water suitable for long-term storage and watering purposes. In this study, stormwater samples from three sites of Rockhampton City have been tested and analyzed to determine the quality of water for reuse. The parameters tested were electrical conductivity, pH, salinity, concentration of oil and grease, total suspended solid, turbidity, alkalinity, sodium, and chloride. The results of on-site stormwater quality tests are compared with the Australian and New Zealand Environment Conservation Council (ANZECC) standards and quality data available in the literature for each parameter suitable for irrigating roadside plants and gardening. Although, the results of this study is comparable with the literature data, a significantly different quality data are found compared to ANZECC standards. However, the samples collected for this study gave a basic understanding of stormwater quality issues for potential inflows to the Green Gully. Further study is recommended in order to establish mathematical link between raw stormwater quality and water quality required for gardening and irrigating roadside plants and for adopting required level of treatment facility with Green Gully for purifying and reusing water through an automated network system.  相似文献

Banana peels were employed for the removal of metribuzin from aqueous solution. Sorption in the batch mode was optimized regarding pH, contact time, sorbent dose, initial pesticide concentrations, and temperature. The sorption data were fitted to pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, intraparticle diffusion, Elovich, and liquid film diffusion model, the pseudo-second-order exhibiting best fit (R2 = 0.9803). Of the four most common sorption isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich), the data followed the Langmuir isotherm with highest correlation. The maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 167 mg g?1. Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy showed that the sorption was exothermic and spontaneous.  相似文献

A method for the residual pendimethalin in soil and vegetable samples was developed. The method is based on extraction of pendimethalin from samples using microwave-assisted solvent extraction (MASE) with acetone, ethanol, and water as extraction solvent. Extracted pendimethalin samples were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detector at 240 nm. The MASE parameters, temperature, heating time, and solvent types were optimized with the feasibility of MASE application in the determination of pendimethalin extraction efficiency of pendimethalin from soil and vegetable samples. The maximum temperature that can be used during the heating for MASE is 60°C, where the recovery percentages reached 97%. Linearity for pendimethalin was found in the range of 2?C20 ??g mL???1 with limits of detection and limits of quantification of 0.059 and 0.17 ??g mL???1, respectively.  相似文献

The land surface temperature (LST) and land use land cover (LULC) are the major components of climate- and environment-related studies. The objective of this study was to assess the relationship of LST with remotely sensed LULC-derived vegetation indices during 2018 at the global, latitudinal and continental scales. Moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) Aqua daytime LST and eight LULC MODIS indices (NDVI, EVI, LAI, DSI, NDWI, albedo, NDSI, NDBI) were processed using Earth Engine Code Editor. The analysis was conducted using correlation coefficient and significance of the relationship of variables based on 2050 randomly selected points at the global scale. Based on the univariate and geographically weighted regression methods, the research confirmed that vegetation greenness (NDVI), leaf water content (NDWI) and snow cover (DSI) are the codominant drivers of decreasing LST at the global scale including Europe, Asia, South America and North America at the continental scale. Snow cover during winter and vegetation greenness in summer seasons control the global LST. Although albedo shows an inverse relationship, NDBI and NDSI displayed a positive relationship to LST at the global scale. In conclusion, temporal seasonal and inter-annual dynamics of LST in response to snow cover and vegetation properties (greenness, moisture) should be focused on understanding and regulating LST at varying scales.

The effects of poor indoor air quality and mould growth in working environment are major problems in built environment, and there is a need to look for improvement of the health, comfort and productivity of the building occupants. Airborne mould sampling studies were conducted in a reference building located in Rockhampton, Central Queensland, Australia. Both indoor culturable and mould spore levels were observed. It was found through the indoor–outdoor ratios of the species that indoor concentrations are mostly related to the outdoor mould levels. The moulds differ in their relative humidity and temperature requirements to support surface growth. Indoor humidity has a significant effect on occupants comfort, perceived air quality, occupants’ health, building durability, emissions and energy efficiency. Practical hygrothermal simulation models are employed to analyse the combined heat and moisture behaviour within the built environment. A review of the current modelling options available to predict building performance based on energy and mass transport simulation is presented, and then a case study is presented with the assessment of indoor built environment to avoid mould problem.  相似文献
