Passive sampling of glycol ethers and their acetates in indoor air   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This study examined the performances of a thermal desorbable radial diffusive sampler for the weekly measurement of eight glycol ethers in indoor air and described the results of an application of this method carried out as part of HABIT'AIR Nord - Pas de Calais program for the air monitoring of these compounds in sixty homes located in northern France. The target compounds were the four glycol ethers banned from sale to the public in France since the 1990s (i.e. 2-methoxy ethanol, 2-ethoxy ethanol and their acetates) and four other glycol ethers derivatives of which the use have increased considerably (i.e. 1-methoxy-2-propanol, 2-butoxy ethanol and their acetates).A test program was carried out with the aim of validating the passive sampling method. It allowed the estimation of all the parameters of a method for each compound (calibration, analytical precision, desorption efficiency, sampling rate in standard conditions, detection limit and stability of sample before and after exposure), the examination of the influence of environmental factors on the sampling rate by some exposure chamber experiments and the assessment of the uncertainty of the measurements.The results of this evaluation demonstrated that the method has turned out to be suitable for six out of eight glycol ethers tested. The effect of the environmental factors on the sampling rates was the main source of measurement uncertainty. The measurements done in sixty homes revealed a relative abundance of 1-methoxy-2-propanol that was found in more than two thirds of homes at concentration levels of 4.5 microg m(-3) on average (a maximum value of 28 microg m(-3)). 1-methoxy-2-propanol acetate and 2-butoxy ethanol were also detected, but less frequently (in 19% of homes) and with the concentrations below 12 microg m(-3). The highest levels of these glycol ethers appear to be in relation to the emissions occurring at the time of cleaning tasks.  相似文献

Pedological and botanical characteristics of a former metallurgical landfill were examined to assess the risks of heavy metals mobility and to evaluate remediation feasibility. In addition to very high heavy metals levels (Cu, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn), the soil was characterized by a lack of clear horizonation, a relatively high pH, a high mineral and organic carbon contents, a low nitrogen level and a high C/N ratio. A two step sequential extraction showed that heavy metals were poorly labile (i.e. not soluble in diluted CaCl2), indicating that their leaching under natural conditions was probably very low. However, extraction with DTPA generated significant amounts of metals (mainly Pb and Cu), suggesting they were potentially mobilizable. A botanical survey of the area showed a biodiverse plant community (28 species and 11 families), with no obvious toxicity symptoms. Measurements of metal contents in dominant species confirmed that they were closely similar to those reported for species growing in unpolluted environments. Consequently, for an effective site restoration, indigenous species could be well suited to cope with local conditions in a phytostabilization strategy.  相似文献

Use of Microbial strains from collection in the study of pesticide biodegradability. 5 different herbicides and 1 metabolite of herbicide were subjected to biodegradation by different microbial strains and simultaneously by soil suspensions.To take account of possible co-metabolisme a supplementary source of carbon was added in the culture media. From August 2000 to June 2001, seven egg-carrying female lobster (Homarus americanus) from the Îles de la Madeleine population (Gulf of St. Lawrence, Canada) were held under a simulated seasonal temperature cycle to monitor egg development from extrusion to hatching. For the first time, changes in the yolk components (total lipids and major lipid classes, total proteins) and embryo growth of single eggs were monitored separately over the entire development period. Under the controlled temperature conditions, egg development proceeded in three phases. (1) Autumn, from extrusion to early December, was marked by a rapid increase in the Perkinss eye index and rapid declines in yolk total proteins and triacylglycerols (TAG). Embryo daily growth rate was estimated between 1 and 2 µg proteins day–1. (2) Winter, from late December to early April (temperature stable at ca. 1°C) was characterized by a stationary phase in the evolution of the eye index and yolk lipid use, and embryo growth slowed significantly. (3) Spring, from late April to hatching in June was the period with the most rapid changes in yolk TAG and embryo growth rates >6 µg proteins day–1 were recorded. Almost 65% of the live biomass (total proteins) of the hatching larvae was accumulated during the last few weeks of development. An index of embryo growth efficiency was estimated as the slope of the relationship between embryo total proteins and yolk TAG during egg development. A relationship was found between the initial mean egg dry weight and the embryo growth efficiency index suggesting that under the same experimental conditions bigger eggs used yolk lipids more efficiently and sustained faster embryonic growth than smaller eggs. An inter-laboratory round robin analysis of toxaphene in a National Institute of Standards Cod Liver Oil #1588 was carried out. Analysis was performed by GC-ECD, electron capture negative ion GCMS (ECNI GCMS) and electron impact GC/MS in high resolution single ion monitoring mode (EI-HRSIM). Results of the analyses by GC-ECD, ECNI and HRSIM were 4.22±2.45 ppm, 3.95±1.57 ppm, and 2.35±0.06 ppm respectively. Due to the wide inter-laboratory variation in workup, GC conditions, detection method, and quantitation algorithms used, no one set of factors stood out as the cause of the variation in results.  相似文献

The improved in vitro bioremediation of Arabian Light crude oil in synthetic sea water by a mixed culture of bacteria is reported. Effects of fish meal, meat meal 80 % proteins and sophorolipids on the biodegradation were evaluated during a three-week incubation using GC/FID and GC/MS analysis of the remaining oil. Fish meal and more particularly meat meal 80 % proteins used at 0,5 mg.ml−1 involve no nitrogen and phosphorous limits when used as sole source of nutrients. Biodegradation processes in the first four days of the incubation supplemented with sophrolipids are accelerated two fold over controls.  相似文献

Lichens were used to evaluate the metal pollution in a forest ecosystem around the smelter of Murdochville, Canada. As reached values 5.8 times higher in the smelter vicinity than in the 'background' sites. This enrichment was 2 times higher for 3 metals (Cu, Cd and Pb). The highest As, Ba, Cd, Cu, and Pb concentrations in lichens were 4, 112, 1, 23, 50 and 952mg/kg respectively. Contamination declined exponentially with increasing distance from the smelter and was related to elevation and slope exposition to the smelter flux. (206)Pb/(207)Pb and (206)Pb/(204)Pb ratios were low close to the smelter (1.16 and 18), but increased with distance to constant values (1.19 and 18.7) and showed an inverse correlation with lead concentrations. Forest contamination was detectable up to 30km from the smelter.  相似文献
