Corrected first-order model was applied to describe the biological removal of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) in sludge-amended soil along with batch and continuous-flow anaerobic reactors with different initial/influent DEHP concentrations and hydraulic retention times. Only two kinetic parameters - the first-order rate coefficient k describing the overall kinetics of the process and the coefficient alpha characterizing the fraction of non-degradable DEHP - were used to fit the array of experimental data published earlier. The values of k and alpha estimated for DEHP removal from different sludges at 35 degrees C varied within the range of 0.03-0.07 d(-1) and 0.25-0.5, respectively. In sludge-amended soil, the first-order kinetic coefficient k increased from 0.007 to 0.028 d(-1) and the fraction of non-degradable DEHP alpha decreased from 0.6 to 0.5 with the increase in incubation temperature from 5 to 20 degrees C. The rate coefficient k increased by a factor of 2 when the temperature increased from 5 to 10 degrees C or from 10 to 20 degrees C.  相似文献

Utilizing stable carbon isotope data to account for aceticlastic and non-aceticlastic pathways of methane generation, a model was created to describe laboratory batch anaerobic decomposition of cellulosic materials (office paper and cardboard). The total organic and inorganic carbon concentrations, methane production volume, and methane and CO2 partial pressure values were used for the model calibration and validation. According to the fluorescent in situ hybridization observations, three groups of methanogens including strictly hydrogenotrophic methanogens, strictly aceticlastic methanogens (Methanosaeta sp.) and Methanosarcina sp., consuming both acetate and H2/H2CO3 as well as acetate-oxidizing syntrophs, were considered. It was shown that temporary inhibition of aceticlastic methanogens by non-ionized volatile fatty acids or acidic pH was responsible for two-step methane production from office paper at 35 °C where during the first and second steps methane was generated mostly from H2/H2CO3 and acetate, respectively. Water saturated and unsaturated cases were tested. According to the model, at the intermediate moisture (150%), much lower methane production occurred because of full-time inhibition of aceticlastic methanogens. At the lowest moisture, methane production was very low because most likely hydrolysis was seriously inhibited. Simulations showed that during cardboard and office paper biodegradation at 55 °C, non-aceticlastic syntrophic oxidation by acetate-oxidizing syntrophs and hydrogenotrophic methanogens were the dominant methanogenic pathways.  相似文献

For natural water bodies there are many models of biochemical oxidation of organic pollutants, from simple to complicated ones. For the artificial conditions of waste water treatment plants there are numerous models of oxidation processes too. The authors believe that a better understanding of these processes in nature would be gained if the oxidation processes in more simple artificial conditions were understood.An attempt has been made to explain the variety of types of models of waste treatment in an activated sludge system or a biofilm reactor by the diffusion mechanism of oxidation of single substrates on the one hand, and by superposition of the kinetics of oxidation of single substrates in measurements of the dynamics of oxidation of a complex pollutant on the other hand.The conditions in which zero- and first-order models are valid in the oxidation of single substrates are derived. Respective formulae for rate constants are given. Monod's model is valid in a broader range of substrate concentration variations. An approximate formula for the half-saturation constant is proposed. Satisfactory agreement with experimental data for glucose and ammonia substrates is shown.The formal character of models being used at present is claimed for multicomponent substrates. The accuracy of the calculation is largely governed by the number of model coefficients. Similar results obtained by Monod's and Grau's models, often used in practice, are emphasized.  相似文献

The best groundwater resources in Finland are generally situated in glaciofluvial formations with thick sand and gravel deposits. The glaciofluvial formation of Jokkavaara, in northern Finland near the town of Rovaniemi, is important for both its groundwater reserves and its sand and gravel resources. The groundwater and mineral resources of Jokkavaara was studied to define their quantity and quality, and to develop a land-use plan which would help civil servants of the municipality to make the decisions necessary for exploiting sand and gravel. The land-use plan shows the areas where exploiting mineral resources is not allowed or recommended because of the risks of contamination of groundwater, or because of injurious effects on the environment caused by noise and dust from gravel pits, or by spoilt landscape. The size of Jokkavaara is 5 km2, and its mineral resources are about 53 million cubic metres. The sand and gravel deposits are at the most, 50 m thick. Risks of contamination by fallout are small, due to the thick sand and gravel deposits above groundwater level. Exploiting mineral resources have no effect on groundwater quality either. By the land-use plan and legislation, good groundwater can also be protected in the future. Legislation limits the exploitation of mineral resources especially in groundwater areas.  相似文献

The applicability of different kinetics to the hydrolysis of particulate organic material in anaerobic digestion is discussed. Hydrolysis has traditionally been modelled according to the first-order kinetics. For complex substrate, the first-order kinetics should be modified in order to take into account hardly degradable material. It has been shown that models in which hydrolysis is coupled to the growth of hydrolytic bacteria work well at high or at fluctuant organic loading. In particular, the surface-related two-phase and the Contois models showed good fits to experimental data from a wide range of organic waste. Both models tend to the first-order kinetics at a high biomass-to-waste ratio and, for this reason, they can be considered as more general models. Examples on different inhibition processes that might affect the degradation of solid waste are reported. Acetogenesis or methanogenesis might be the rate-limiting stages in complex waste. In such cases, stimulation of hydrolysis (mechanically, chemically or biologically) may lead to a further inhibition of these stages, which ultimately affects hydrolysis as well. Since the hydrolysis process is characterized by surface and transport phenomena, new developments in spatially distributed models are considered fundamental to provide new insights in this complex process.  相似文献
