Fisheries management is increasingly transitioning towards collaborative governance. Collaborative systems depend on stakeholders’ capacity to design and implement legitimate and scientifically robust management plans within collective action arenas. Here we propose that collaborative governance outcomes, in fisheries management, will benefit from using structured participatory decision making frameworks that enhance deliberative thinking among stakeholders. We tested our approach in the artisanal fishery of Chile, an important producer of marine resources. Recently in 2013, Chile made important changes to fisheries policies by creating multi-sectorial management committees to manage de facto open access fishing areas. We applied a structured decision making framework to inform the restructuring of a management plan within a committee. As a result, we identified goals, objectives and indicators, including social, economic, biological and ecological dimensions; we explored tradeoffs, assessing the relative importance of the objectives; finally, we created scenarios and prioritized alternatives, reflecting on the interplay between self-regulation and government control. Members of the management committee were able to rationalize the different steps of the framework and identify ways forward which highlighted the importance of self-regulation in comparison to central authorities’ control. We concluded that structured decision making promotes spaces for rational analysis of alternatives costs and benefits. Promoting deliberative thinking in fisheries management can improve equity, legitimacy and sustainability of collaborative governance. 相似文献

The population biology of Donax hanleyanus (Philippi, 1845) (Bivalvia: Donacidae) was studied by monthly sampling from June 1998 through June 2000, at Restinga da Marambaia Beach, Brazil. Two transects were established and divided into ten strata parallel to the waterline, and five replicates were taken with a 0.04 m2 sampler in each stratum. The highest densities of D. hanleyanus were recorded in winter (September 1998, July 1999) and autumn (April 2000). A stratified distribution was observed: recruits were found mainly in the middle swash zone, while juveniles and adults occurred across the tidal gradient up to the retention zone. Mortality rates did not differ significantly between years. Annual production (in ash-free dry mass) ranged from 0.76 g AFDM m-2 year-1 (1998) to 3.67 g AFDM m-2 year-1 (1999), while the production-to-biomass (P/B) ratio varied from 1.45 to 1.59. Life span was ca. 17 months. Of all variables tested, only two, one biological and one physical, seem to have influenced the population dynamics of this species. A significant negative correlation between the densities of the suspension-feeders D. hanleyanus and Emerita brasiliensis (Crustacea: Decapoda) indicated possible intraguild competition, and there was a significant exponential correlation between beach slope and the mean across-shore position of D. hanleyanus. Data compiled from literature suggests a latitudinal gradient in population parameters, with mortality and renewal rate (P/B) of different species of Donax increasing and life span decreasing from temperate to tropical regions. Other factors influencing population dynamics, such as food availability, and the contributions of individual and community biomass to energy and nutrient cycling are also discussed. 相似文献

Jackfruit starch based biodegradable films containing lysozyme were characterized for their antimicrobial activity, thickness, solubility, water vapor permeability and mechanical properties. The biodegradable films had good appearance and antimicrobial activity against Micrococcus lysodeikticus. The thickness of the biodegradable films were not affected by the variation in pH, but the addition of lysozyme increased the thickness, the thickest films being those with the highest lysozyme concentrations. The variation in pH of the filmogenic solutions affected the solubility of the biodegradable films, water solubility being greatest at pH 7.0 and with the highest lysozyme concentration. The permeability of the biodegradable films was increased by incorporating lysozyme. The lysozyme concentration and pH variation caused changes in the mechanical properties. The addition of 8% lysozyme increased the tensile strength and Young’s modulus for all the pH values studied. With respect to the release of antimicrobial activity, the diffusion of lysozyme was shown to follow Fickian transport mechanism. 相似文献

Biogenic emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) play a fundamental role in atmospheric chemistry. Vegetation is the most abundant natural source of VOCs, while terpenoids, as limonene, α and β pinene and mircene, top the plants emission list. Much interest has been demonstrated in oxidation and photooxidation reactions of VOCs, particularly of monoterpenoids, owing to their diversity and to uncertainties regarding their mechanism of reaction. Quantification of primary carbonylic compounds, as well as of biradical reaction components, is highly relevant to the understanding of the major reactions. In this context, taking into account both structural factors and the fact that these compounds are found in the essential oils of plants typically found in Brazil and that they may be present in the atmosphere from emission by the plants, the monoterpenoids (S)-(+)-carvone, (R)-(−)-carvone, (−)-carveol, geraniol and citral (a mixture of the isomers geranial and neral) were selected for this study. The ozonolysis reactions of the monoterpenoids were carried out under dark conditions for all experiments, due to their photochemical reactivity. The analysis of the results lets us propose a mechanism by which these reactions occur. The observed results of the ozonolysis of S and R carvone suggest that the stereochemistry of asymmetric carbon does not affect either in the yields of both formaldehyde and of OH radicals produced in the reaction, or in the reactivity of these compounds, for which the rate constants were in the scale of 10−6 s−1.We found that, in the (−)-carveol's cis and trans mixture, even though the hydroxyl in the axial position—in the case of trans-(C) and cis-(D′) isomers—favors the attack by the ozone molecule on the external double bond, thus increasing the mixture's reactivity , it affects the average production of formaldehyde. The presence of geraniol and citral led to the production of formaldehyde, propanone, glyoxal, methyl–glyoxal and cyclohexanone (OH radicals) as reaction products. The influence of an electron attractor group bonded to the carbon of the double bond, on the reactivity of the double bond, could not be observed in the case of citral, due to strong interference occurring in the instrument in all experiments with this monoterpenoid. For this reason, only the kinetics of geraniol was monitored . 相似文献
